but u wouldn't need 3 of them.....if u have a lot of money, go for 2. with that u can play crysis etc. at ultra high. later when the 9xxx series comes out, go for it

Don't go for 8800GTX, instead go for 8800GT. It is price is half of the 8800gtx's price and the performance decreases by only a small margin.Pair two 8800GTs in Sli mode and you can enjoy almost every game with full eye candy at max resolutions.

I wd say get just a 8800gt right now.
Then get the g96 or g100 gpus in q1 2008.

If you have been living lately you woulda known that nforce 7 has been released.
The motherboard that i am buying supports 3 way SLI. but the SLI bridge only supports 8800GTX or 8800 Ultra

It need not be only a gaming rig. What if he is into making money with somehting like Maya?

Such a rig can have non-useless use too.

even Maya, 3ds Max and other gfx intensive applications don't need 3 8800GTXs....maybe 2 at the most. 3 is definitely an overkill....think of the money he'll be spending on the PSU...what'll he take? 1kilowatt?

ok here is an update
after much consideration i have decided to buy only 2 GTX

and by the way i have a 1050 watt power supply so no probs with the power

I was reading the reviews of the processor I am taking. Its the latest QX9650 quad core extreme (45 nm one). I came accross a review in which guys clamis to have overcloked this thing to 4.6 Ghz. The stock speed is 3.0 Ghz

also I am getting liquid cooling complimentry with the cabby:cool:

ok,nice cool. Are you by any means any ambani ot tata or birla?

And I waited for 4 months to get a 8600gt.:(

I would suggest you get a simple 8800gt\gts for now and get the ultimate big daddy 9800gtx in april or so,I assure you it will cost a bomb in the beginning(some 700-800$ they are saying).Buying a 8800gtx is useless now.

Does it support 2 way SLI with other cards like 8800GT?
Coz it SLI 8800GTx2 makes more sense as the limitation of memory bandwidth is minimised due to the effective 2x256bit 1GB meory.
And also GT needs much less power than GTX, so even 2x 8800GT in SLI can be handled by a gud 600W PSU like Corsair HX 620.

Or get 2x8800GTS 512MB for 17k or 2x8800GTS 1GB for 21k.
Even a single 8800GTS 1GB is better than 8800GTX, so GTSx2 will easily beat 2xGTX, nd also consumes much less power nd heat, bo better overclockability.

From where did u get those prices of the 8800GTS 512 MB and 1 GB versions??
Please let me know coz I wanna buy 2 of the GTSs. I am getting the mobo XFX 780I SLI probably from NEWEGG @ $320. I rejected EVGA due to customer support unavailability in India.
If I get the GTSs at those prices, I may get themfrom India, otherwise again from NEWEGG.

okay listen up

I am one time buyer and i wont go to the market buying stuff everytime something new is released or is going to be released. Remember we are talkin g about technology. If i keep waiting for something new then ill end up never buying anything.

The cards that come out in april will be DX 10.1 and without doubt will be better than the 8 series but ill be in 10th by then and my dad will never buy me anything like that in my board year. Its now or never

My dad doesnt give a damn about the money so why should I? I am getting this PC just coz my dad is techno savvy. He bought a 16GB touch,80GB iPod, 46 inch LCD, 12 MP HD camera without giving a damn about the money, he just bought it. Im telling u he is totally nuts over techno

PS I just found out one guy overclocked QX9650 to 6.0 Ghz

^^one guy clocked his p4 prescott to freaking 7ghz and I saw the video,no kidding.

And yea If you got money to burn then surely make use of it,no problems.Just don't give a damn.

I still maintain a 9800gtx is worth waiting though.

hey bloodreaper, with the sort of money u have to burn..have u considered a alienware or falcon??

Dec 24, 2007 at 5:01 PM
Dude i saw the config for Alienware PC's
Man they are absolutely ripping ur pocket.....they giving u **** configs (that too their minimum configs) for something like $5000

I can assemble a way better PC for $5k trust me. everyone here can.
Dell is using the brand to charge more for something that should cost 3k dollars

PS everyone here knows the joy of assembling ur own PC's
for god sake we are comp geeks...we dont buy branded PC's they are for
people who just want a computer

Everything is fine apart from the following:

1. 8800 GTX - Go for new 8800 GTS(G92) 512MB - performs better than 8800 GTX. *www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3514991&CatId=1826

2. RAM - Why going for 800 MHZ DDR2 - My suggestion is to go for DDR3 but the motherboard that u have shortlisted sports DDR2 but anyways try these one.

3. HDD - Buy one of the above and a 150 GB WD Raptor to install ur operating system and games for best performance and 500 GB for storage!

Have fun hunting monsters!!!!!!!!!!!!
