hey guys i'm having ubuntu 8.10 on my pc..pidgin [which comes preloaded on that distro] is giving me some problems...

i cannot seem to be able to log into GTalk through Pidgin... i've added my Y! account and it works fine but somehow GTalk is a problem...

Pidgin says "failed to connect" after about 10 minutes...

so please guys help me out with this...

PS : i've tried Fedora 10 [on USB] and the Pidgin there also gives me the same problem...so there must be something wrong with the settings.... so please tell me what can be done..

Buddy try Changing the following in the Advance option:

Connect port: 5223
Connect Server: talk.google.com
File transfer: proxy.jabber.org

will try it out and let you know...

[but i'm guessing that the port number and the File transfer looks very familiar... ]

EDIT ::

the port number did look familiar... it was set at 5222 by default :D

anyways... problem solved.... thanks Ron :)

^^Don't you see any new icon in top panel after opening pidgin? Click on that to see pidgin.
