First off, is your PS2 modded? If not then connecting a HDD would require it to be modded in which case it would void the warranty.

No it's not modded. Connecting HDD requires Modding in all cases or is there any other way....

AFAIK, they have to add a separate HDD & have some sort of boot loader from which it can load those games. I don't think the original firmware allows this. So it needs a mod-chip soldered onto it. Check with some local retailers of the console if they are able to provide this facility for you.

The old PS2 did have a HDD in it right? For playing online and stuff.

The "fatboi" PS2 supported HDD natively but still required Network Adapter. Slim one doesn't supports HDD. In the fat one, even if the HDD was there, u cud only Save games and songs on it not full games.
Now if the PS2 is modded, no matter fat one or slim, u can get HDD on it and boot games from it.
Now this thread is about to be closed by the mods. :D
