Dear Readers,

We have received a few complaints about the Terminator 2 / Discovery Kids' Ultimate Guide To The Human Body DVD. The problem that readers seem to be facing is that of a missing DVD codec, which is generally installed along with DVD Movie Player Software.

Windows Media Player 10 does not include DVD Codecs by default, and your system will need to have some other DVD Movie Player software installed as well. When you buy a DVD-ROM / Combo / DVD-Writer drive, you are supposed to get a software DVD player along with it. This is generally located in the CD or DVD that contains the drivers and additional software (CD/DVD burning software) for your drive. The most common DVD Movie applications that are bundled with DVD drives are PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc.

To check whether you have a DVD decoder installed on your system, follow these steps:

Click on Start > Run, type “DVDUPGRD /DETECT” (without the quotes) and press [Enter]
A box will pop up. This box will contain information of the DVD decoders installed on your computer.
If the box looks like any of the images below, then you have a DVD Decoder installed, and should be able to view the DVD in any media player.

However, if the box that pops up after step 2 looks like the one shown below, you do not have a DVD Decoder installed and will need to find the CD that came with your DVD-ROM / DVD-Writer / Combo drive and install the DVD Movie Player Software contained therein.

If you did not get a software CD / DVD with your DVD drive, please contact your system assembler or vendor and demand the same. Every DVD drive is bundled with DVD Movie software, and you are entitled to get it too.

If for some reason you cannot get the DVD Movie Player software from anywhere, you will need to follow the steps below:

Put the Digit December 2005 CD into your drive, and browse to the Digital Tools > Essentials section.
Locate Kazaa Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.40 and click on the “Install” button. If you are browsing the CD through Windows Explorer, go to the Digital_Tools > Essentials folder and double-click on the file “klmcodec140.exe”.
Click “Next” thrice until you reach the “Select Components” screen. You should see a list of the components, codecs and players that will be installed by Kazaa Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.40.

Under the “DirectShow video filters” category tick the "Cyberlink DVD Decoder" option and also the "MPEG-2" option. Select the "CyberLink(video)" sub-option under the MPEG-2 header.
Click “Next” and complete the installation. Restart the computer if asked to do so.
Now insert the Movie DVD into your drive and you should be able to watch the movie.

We realize that the steps mentioned above can be time consuming and irritating, and hope that our readers understand that these steps are necessary in order to be able to watch ANY movie DVD on the PC, not just the Terminator 2 - Discovery DVD provided with the Digit December issue.

Those readers who have installed all the software that came with their DVD drive will not face any problems with movie DVDs.

PS: I hope that clears up a lot of unnecessary confusion that has been caused by what is, for many, a first time experience with a movie DVD!

I would also like to add that the very first thing people need to do is ensure that they have a DVD drive, as we found a lot of people were trying to run the DVD on a CD drive, thinking that this was just like the Ice Age VCD that we had provided in a previous issue. To confirm:

The Terminator 2 / Discovery Kids DVD will ONLY run on a DVD movie player or on a PC DVD drive.

Extra cds don't matter, DIGIT mag is main thing to buy.

This time CD/DVD contents are really worth the 200 Bucks but why are you giving a game that is about 6 years old, really useless. Also the game is not so good. It would have been better if you had given an EA game maybe old version of NFS. Last time also in the ANNIVERSARY issue there was MIDTOWN MADNESS 2 on the cover but an old version was given. I wonder whether MICROSOFT has picked DIGIT as the clearing agent to clear all old stuff!!

BTW, Motocross madness full game is great inclusion.

As long as I can remember, Digit (previously Chip) has always been Rs.100... Then how the heck can it be avlble for Rs.50 ???

Raaabo mentioned that subscribers hav to pay Rs 50 extra to get the Movie DVD + Game.

There was a lot of resentment from the members and Digit ppl deleted all posts that were questioning the logic behind it.

So i was asking subscribers whether we still hav to pay rs 50 to get the dvd or was it withdrawn

First of all Digit is Rs.125/- and not Rs.100/-.

Now for the Rs.50/- issue

Digit December mega issue is priced at Rs.200/- because they are offering the Terminator 2 - Judgement Day DVD and Motocross Madness CD Free with the same. Now Digit had asked the subscribers to pay Rs.50/- extra if they wanted the Extra DVD + CD and there was a big hungama regarding the same. This is the second thread regarding the Preview and Feedback. The eariler thread was removed.....

The deleting of the thread was a cunning move by DIGIT. It doesn't want the controversy to spread.

Digit is very "professional" in running this forum. Even after this if digit asks its subscribers to pay 50 bucks for the so called "freebies" , i am sure that will cost digit a lot. I AM GOING TO A CONSUMER COURT FOR FALSE PROMISE. and i wouldnt be surprised if digit shows its professionalism once again and delete my post

Hey man is that true ?? I am with you man and let me tell you that I have been reading digit and other mags for years now and very recently I subscribed to Digit. So if I can be of any help for you I'll be delighted.

Well if the Digit people are going to charge Rs. 50 from regular subscribers, the ony option I'm left with is to point out this fact to a consumer court.

Usint the internet, complaints can be filed at CORE. And I'm going to do the same against JDM.

Now that Raabo has removed post that related to "Rs.50", i hope the issue is over and also that subscribers be given the free gift free.

Now lets please return to the topic. Also it would be nice on Raabo's part if an explanation is given on the issue.

Before opening the pack I was happy after checking the movie DVD I was Sad.

The movie DVD is a dual-layer DVD and should work provided:

1. You have a compatible DVD-ROM drive
2. You have installed the DVD-Movie player software that came with your DVD-ROM drive (eg: PowerDVD, Windows Media Player 10, etc.)

There is no spyware in the Motocross Madness CD. We've checked!

Someone tell me that should I buy Digit of this month?Is it worth or many problems.

Most of the DVD players play dual layer DVD`S.
2 years old Dvd-Rom plays dual dvd I am sure.

Its a shame that DIGIT people even thought of asking the subscribers to pay Rs. 50 extra for the issue.
They have really gone mad. How can they think of this?
First they make discrimination between the issues of subscribers and newstand by including DVD case with newsstand copies. Now this
I don't know what is intheir mind. But surely these are fading the good image that Digit had in market.
Also they rarely give prices for their contests.
They are also modifying posts in the forum on their discretion to delete all the posts related to Rs. 50 hungama

I got my december issue from newsstand yesterday and checked everything today. There is no DVD case for the newsstand buyers too this time. I really feel digit should rethink the same. Most probably this time since newsstand buyers were gonna get all these dvd+cd, a single DVD case wont be spacious to accomodate them. Moreover the movie DVD works, but its kinda strage sometimes it justs hangs the system. Checked it in the Dvd player too, works as it should. All those who face the problem of the *faulty* movie dvd, just wait for a while after popping in the T2 dvd.

@ Deadman : its a dual layer dvd. Size of the DVD is some 7 gigs. If you are unaware of what a DL DVD is, do a define: xyz on google before posting it on the forums. It misleads people.

All dvd-roms read both SL and DL DVDs. So the DVD should work in all dvd drives.

I wrote a mail to help@jasubhai.com asking that y i haven't i got my issue yet?

They said that my issue has been dispatched and will reach me shortly. Hope it is true.

Now digit has started answering e-mails fast. Atleast some improvement we can see in digit.

I remeber the welcome note when I subscribed to digit. It said that I am a "priviledged member of digit family". Now If I am not getting on to your nerves then let me add prefix "under to the above mentioned phrase.

I got my subscription copy today (7th dec ) , and got to know that there's no free (Term and Disc) DVD incuded in that.

One way i feel happy that i have not received that Currupt DVD which would remain as show piece for ever.

But this policy is not fare.First increase in Copy price,then lots of currupt CD' and DVDs , then taking more 50 buks and Deleting posts.

Am sure this wld have big impact on Marketing of digit.

I couldnt believe it when I didnt get the Terminator2, Discovery dvd's and motocross cd. I am a long time subscriber and they are asking us to shell out more money if we want these goodies!

Please find out what a dual-layer DVD is first before posting. Also refer to my first post that started this thread, it has been edited to explain why some of you have problems with the Movie DVD.

The fault does not lie with Digit in most cases. Sure there might be a couple of spoilt DVDs (very rare) out there, but they must have been damaged in transit or transportation—these DVDs might be bent out of heat or have markings on the data face and are quite easy to spot.

For most people however, the DVD will work fine provided you follow the instructions given in the first post in this thread. If you have a damaged DVD, data or movie, we are happy to replace it ASAP, all you have to do is write to help@jasubhai.com to get instructions.

Many people do not load movie DVD software and thus have no DVD decoders installed, which is why they cannot view movie DVDs. You will not be able to watch ANY movie DVD unless you follow the procedures mentioned at the beginning of this thread.

The Digit DVD is a Data DVD and not a movie DVD, so a few of you might find the Digit DVD functioning and the Movie DVD not working and think that it is corrupted. This isn't so.

The person who got 2 movie DVDs and no Digit DVD should write in to help@jasubhai.com and ask for directions to solve his problem. I am sure they will dispatch it immediately. The mixup might have happened while packing.

The reason I mentioned dual-layer was because people might have very very old DVD-ROM drives that might not recognise dual-layer DVDs. However, since all DVD-ROMs available for over the past 2 years support dual-layer discs, this is a problem that you might face if your drive is, say, over 3 years old.

I made a mistake in a previous post: I mentioned Windows Media Player 10 because I thought it installed a DVD decoder. I was wrong. WMP does not bundle any DVD decoders and thus those without DVD movie player software will get an error message that says something to that effect when trying to use WMP10 to play the DVD.

I have subscribed to Digit & had been assured in the subscriber agreement that I will get the same copy as news-stand month on month without any addl charges. Infact, it was clearly mentioned that by subscribing for longer periods, a subscriber is protected against inflation & rise in cover price.

I think its not Raboo`s fault.Its the bad-luck of the subscribers.See Digit people give you magazine of regular issue at a discount price and not the special issues like this for discount cost.I think if they start giving special issues including special dvd etc for subscribes it wont be worth for them.

It is 7th of December and my copy of Digit has not reached me till now. It is a nightmare I am waiting for. No movie,no game ..........

I also haven't got my issue yet. B4 3-4 months i usually got my mag till 5th of every month but frm last 2 months i am getting my issue after 10th.

The crying subscribers should understand that the "extra" charge is decision of Team Digit (not solo by Raabo) .

Though , I am a newstand buyer , I do feel that extra charging is not fare after your such comitment by subscription charges.

Yes, and the mag price was raised from Rs 100 to Rs 125, but subscribers who paid Rs 66 were not asked to pay more. So you are protected from inflation, just as the letter says.

think twice before answering as i am taking screenshots of all these posts including the deleted posts, which i am planing to submit as proof in the consumer court if subscribers are not treated fairly.

I've posted many things on this subscriber issues here in the past and unfortunately, all have been deleted. I wanted to ask Team Digit if thats what they call "freely expressing your views". Whats the use of expressing views freely if they are going to be deleted after some time?

Anyways, I just feel its not right for Digit to charge extra from the subscribers for the freebies. Its really lame and no comments and explainations can justify this act. However hard digit tries its just not going to get back my respect for Digit that they lost coz of this. Not that they really care abt it

Guys help me. When i try to install Flash 8 it says Isscript.msi is missing . I googled but found that file only for version 7,8 and 9. IN flash it is showing version 4. Help

I have no comments to offer about the contents of the DVD, CD or the mag because it has just arrived. But must say one thing.

Asking for extra payment simply SUCKS!! :roll: Digit could have used some other model instead of Sania and used that money to send the DVD, etc to all its subscribers.

Although, as Digit claims, we are covered against inflation (or inflated price :roll: ) we are also paying in advance!! Isn't it? Forget about pittance called interest on that money, but we are ensuring some continued business as well.

First it was the DVD case and now this extra payment. Why are subscribers treated differently from news-stand buyers? I subscribe to a few other mags (tech and non-tech) but have never seen anything like this before. This surely is a FIRST BY DIGIT!! Quite unprecedented :evil:

If Digit doesn't gain anything by increasing its subscriber base, why does it keep telling us to subscribe?

Some facts and details about Digit magazine :arrow:

1)The paper quality is poor especially of the begining pages.It improves when the buyers guide section comes(as it contains a lot of ads) and also the pages where HP advertisemnt is there are a bit thick.

2)The fast track pages are rough though a bit smoother than its first issue.Though digit had tried to improve the paper quality of fast track last month -the pages of first half of the book were whiter and a bit smoother than rest of the book- but now its back to the same old stuff.Also it saves money by not printing on inside of the main cover as in previous issues.The preview of next month is also missing in the book.

3)The DVD and CD are again in simple seal covers and it will be a big mess if we have to find a software in later months.

4)Also i received my copy on the 7th as compared to 2-3 in previous few months.

So the conclusion inspite of price hike digit is not being able to improve its service quality :evil:

@hpotter - We all know that digit is giving so much for a less prize. But if u r a subscriber then don't u know that digit had told us when for the first time we had subscribed that we will get mag at 66 rs even if there is a hike in price. So this is a crime.

I am really feeling sad for the poor subscribers who had already paid money in advance for the magazine and now asking extra money.

Some days before I even thought of subscribing to DIGIT but now let me wait for subscriber opinions in the coming days and I will do accoring to that.

It is also true that Digit`s paper is of low quality these days.If other magazines of this price range can give good paper why isn`t digit able to give it???

To say the fact fast track in a way is useless as most of the content in it are useless as most of its contents are know to the people who are reading it.

Better cut that useless stuff and make the price back to RS 100 atleast!!!!!!!

And please increase the quality of the paper .It really sucks yaa.

Hope Digit will improve in the coming month.

I just want few question to be answered.

1) Why does a subscriber has to pay extra money to get the complete package of December/Special issue?

2) What is the real meaning of subscription (someone from DIGIT should personally answer this question, maybe the CEO)?

3) Why Raaabo always says that as being a subscriber we always get everything at a lower cost? We are not begging to DIGIT but have already paid for the stuff we would be getting. So don't show like you are doing any favour to us.

4)If this a forum where we could express our views freely with remaining within the limit, why posts (last thrad about december 2005 preview in DIGITIZED section) are being deleted. What is your intention behind it?

One more thing I would like to suggest to DIGIT is that when they bring out the AD for subscription in future, please mention each and every details so that the future subscriber don't remain in darkness like us.

I just want to say that DIGIT has to work a lot and really a lot to regain our confidence back. Certainly they have lost mine.

And one more thing IMPROVE UR DELIVERY SYSTEM because it really is a nuissance. Always get the copy after the newstand buyers.

) it is of lot of help. Most of the books were of help and you should remember that many people get this mag for knowledge and this is what exactly done by DIGIT. No one should say fast track is of no use.

The paper quality of the mag is better in the recent issues. You cant blame it now. The good thing about digit is that they are giving a book instead of a CD. Mag is the main component not he DVD and the CD.

Ok, a lot of subscribers for Digit, unhappy subscribers. Whats up guys you are getting the stuff for 66+50 bucks what we are getting for 200. U are still saving Rs.84. !!

New stand buyers get it for Rs. 75 more (actuall price 125/-). And I dont even have the option to buy the mag alone with out the extras for 125. After all T2 and Motocross madness is complete waste of investment of Rs. 50, Guess Digit could have loaded them all in to the Data CD itself, at least the Game which could have surely saved some bills easily.

Digit could have easily avoided this issue by posting a notice in November in the 'December Preview Post'. Atleast a hint should have been given so that readers would have anticipated something. The extra Rs.50 has certainly 'surprised' most subscribers. Digit is all to blame its ownself.

The people who read DIGIT/other tech-computer magazines are mostly people working in the field of computer someway or other and the others who read it are those who want to know new things about the new technologies and not the same old contents.

First of all the Fastrack is of use for only for some reference for someday and not for regular use.

Everybody here knows that digit is charging for that small book RS 25.It is a total waste of money for those who know about computer-software/hardware nicely.

I think FastTrack section should be added in the magazine for about 1 page that will do and also make the pirce back to Rs 100.

Letter from the Publisher brings out 3 points justifying their price tag

1) Cost of sourcing T2 DVD is very high

IN THE FORUM MANY USER WERE ASKING FOR A MOVIE DVD BUT NOT FOR ANY SPECIFIC ONE.

2)Inflation is on the rise.

My Answer:

OK INFLATION IS ON THE RISE ONLY FOR DIGIT OR WHAT?EVEN OTHER MAGAZINES ARE GIVING AWAY SPECIAL ISSUES TO THEIR SUBSCRIBER AT NO EXTRA COST.THAT TOO MUCH CHEAPER THAN DIGIT.

3)Subscriber got free gifts with their subscription.

My Answer:
I NEVER GOT A FREE GIFT.AND NO IS MAD HERE TO SUBSCRIBE TO MAGAZINE FOR FREE GIFTS.

Publisher also mentioned that we subcriber get our copy at home delivered and others have to go to newsstand to purchase it.
It looks like they think subscribers are all handicapped and never leave their homes.
What I feel is many of the subscribers would be going to offices and school/colleges and they an pick their copy on the way so Digit is not doing any favour on us by delivering the copy at our place.
Also they proudly send emails to their subscribers(atleast I recieved one) stating that I will recieve my copy of digit on 8th of the month and not on 1st.Even the mail was sent on 4th December i.e after coming to know that magazine would be late this month.

they also mentioned that the printing cost has rised and blah blah..... to justif the price tag of Rs.200/- for newsstand buyer and Rs.50/- extra for subscribers,
but tell me why not other publications and magazines are going the way digit has opted to.
Other magazine(especially CHIP) are able to provide 2Cd's and a DVD every month that too at Rs.100/- and they telling us this kind of stories like we are dumb.

Nor Raabo nor the Publisher Mr. M Jasubhai has bothered to clarify their stand.

I dont want these free gifts they are giving but I oppose the the price tag of Rs.50/- extra for the subscriber.

When we subcribed their was no clause as such that we will have to pay extra for some special gifts.

Tomorrow Digit might say that even if subscribers want their magazines they should pay Rs.50/- extra every month and will nicely send them a email or letter justifying their stand.
This is not what we expected from a reputed publication house and also they are keeping their mouth shut and not even bothering to reply.

Let me give a suggestion to digit to reduce the cost of the magazine.

Stop printing the photos of the models every month and use some cool visualisation on the front cover this way you can save a good amount of money.

Also this will help you to shield yourself from the inflation(as claimed by the Publisher in his letter to subscribers).

This is not we expect from digit.

Also this month magazine contains around 213 pages and around 90 pages of ads(full page ads).this does not include the ads given on the side scrolls of the pages.

so the ratio of content to ads is only around 50%i.e a bit above it,and they are saying that its very difficult to meet ends for the subscribers.

From what little business sense I have i think its very important to keep your promise to your customers(here the subscribers) and they should not be asked for extra money to get the goodies.

Looks like being number one for so many years Sucess has gone into their head and they think that every move they make will be supported by the subscribers.
It is not like what they think and I am sure no existing subscribers will ever want to subscribe to Digit again.

CDs are costly for all they are worth... Books give you higher knowledge than CDs can give and ot to forget the feel of paper (pun) u get.

inside a letter from the CEO explaining the Rs. 50 fracas.. giving lame excuses.

All non Mumbai subscribers who r not paying by credit cards.. have to pay Rs. 25/- extra for the nonMumbai cheque. or draft making charges..

I am getting paper only

Well, I was planning to subscribe Digit from the beginning of next year.. But after all the things that have happened, I have indefinitely postponed my decision.. I'll consider subscribing only after JDM manages to establish trust in my heart by acting in some way..Till then I'll be a happy newsstand reader..And I think many people like me would have made similar decisions..
Anyway, the magazine is great.. I have no complaints there..

no subscribers dont get the dvd case its only for the thenewsstande buyers and also why cant we have just a dvd case for special issue also all my cds and dvds were inside fast track book which was cello taped which led to tearing a bit of its cover and i m a news stand buyer

2006 calleneder is provided by chip not digit. I have now started developing interest in chip. After digit did all this to me (fast track missing). I think i will not renew my subscription and will subscribe to chip only.

first of all, if 25 bucks are added for the fast track, i think giving a soft copy every month wud provide to be the best of both the worlds.

secondly, noone can manage to give out new games for free. But some game other than Motocross Madness wud have done good. AOE - II The Conquerors wud have been the better choice.

The jewel case does more bad than good. It takes more space. DVDs and CDs get scratches quite easily. I think that cushioned plastic covers can do much better.

The price tag should be brought down to 100/- as competitors like Chip and PCQuest give at 100/-

Chip provides two cds and 1 dvd for 100/-, so 1 cd, 1 dvd can go well.

The filenames shud be more descriptive.

I wish I was a subscriber so that I can easily avoid the T2 DVD - remarkably boring film, seen many times in HBO, Star Movies etc.
Now, since I have to pay 200 and buy everything I need to sell the T2 DVD to someone else. Dont know whether someone buy it or not.
If I get 50Rs for that I will sell it! ( I dont matter that string named 'Not for Resale') :!:

Anyway, I cant live without reading Digit. And also the DVD/CD.

I hope Digit will regain the LOST reputation among the subscribers by giving 2 DVDs from Feb or Mar onwards.

And I humbly ask all subscribers to forgive them. We are Human beings and it is the capability to forget and forgive is one of the factor that make us different from Animals. So we must try to forgive them, and ask for a solution for the future, which is good for both side. Going for Lawsuit and such things are not for good, this is the first time they ask the subscribers to pay extra. Nothing more to say, there must be everything clear within a month or two.

About filenames: some work needed from the part of Digit - Rename them all. Many people dont like to read discriptions, just go ahead and find what they want (sometimes me too) and start installation. So to make it fast files needed to be renamed.

Well I got my digit yesterday.
I must say that the cover page is not so nice. If that money had been saved we subscribers would have got the freebies.
Any way contents are fine. Not bad.
Some of the trial s/w you gave have expired serial numbers and I am not able to use them.

at first (having read only half the letter) i was searching frantically for the T2 and discovery dvds, in vain. read the whole letter then

.... if it is for 50 bucks i don mind paying. tho I saw T2 half a dozen of times, gettin a DVD is nt a bad idea, add to that the discovery DVD (motocross i don need rly). but still, i would like 2 point out that this is not good business... better cut down on goodies than make subscribers pay again, after all those big lectures by means of chinese philosophy and all. the dvds ll be given in cases i hope....

The package is attractive, sure does lure me.
Thanks to digit for making this movie, human body,etc.. offer optional(though not the Rs.50) cause some of us do have those and would not get any more place to keep them.
Unhappy about the fact that the copies were dispatched very late.

Hi I am a digit subscriber.I really got problem with my dvd and cd,,since Iam getting these in a normal "polythen cover" that makes its life complicate..just 1 or 2 days the disc gets corrupted with dust and scratch..no place to store the disc..can you pls send those things in a case pls, like the newsstand issue..

Answering the last Q - That was one of my dream when I start reading Digit. Now I am looking for a placement abroad and not in my country :India. Dont misunderstand me! ,this is only because of Salery. BTW I am only a student.

It become Boring gradually.
First: Very very interesting. Need to see once again.
Second: Still interesting. Even if I come to see it again, I will watch it.
Thrid: Seen it in Star Movies. Watched completely because it was a saturday.
Fourth: Again in Star Movies. Start feel Boring. Avoid some parts.
Fifth: Here comes HBO. Completely lost interest. If you ask me why I watch it again - at that time there is no other interesting movie in Star Movies or Zstudio. Still I avoid many part of it.
Sixth: Oooops I am in the house of a friend with two more friends all want to watch T2 DVD of my friend. Two option in front of me. Watch it or Leave his home. The second is not good, because I am visiting his home first with the other two. Didnt know the return path correctly. So rest you can imagine.

BTW I post this much just to reduce the tension of everyone reading this thread. Enough of Complaints I think.

I have a suggestion. Why not list those rs.50 worth xtra free gifts on digit patron, many subscribers are digit patrons and so they would not get dissappointed . Many people will take it for 60 or 80 or even 100 pts . If you can give a whole magazine for 100 pts , why cant you list a cd and a DLDVD for the same

Received my copy without the movie DVD, game CD, calender and with the letter from CEO as expected.
Those who don't receive the copy yet, please don't rush your adrenalin so much. There's nothing interesting in this issue without the CD/DVD contents. In the mag. you will find only ads. There is a huge quantity of ads; I think they should be 120-125 pages if combined. In the article pages also there are much much more useless sketch&pictures than useful articles. I don't like this month's mag at all.
In the letter, CEO Mr. Jasubhai said that providing the extra DVD and CD costs very high. But as they already own the copyright to distribute them, only a few Rs. are needed for the blank discs to provide the !!gifts!! to subscribers.
Actually they don't pay any attention to us, as they know we already paid for a long time and can't break subscription in the middle according to their rule.
But I think this type of acts will really suffer them in near future.

I didn't. If you read my post properly you will understand that I have the highest regard for the armed forces, which is why i was surprised that a supposed member of them would stoop to a level of making baseless allegations and using foul language. My mom was a principal of an Armed Forces school at one time, and I grew up in an army environment, I have nothing but utter respect for them, because they do a job that I cannot. Both my grandfathers died in the wars against Pakistan and China, and served this country proudly till their dying days. Think before you lecture someone about something you know nothing of.

1) Subscribers get all regular content including the special issue magazine at the reduced price they paid when they subscribed. It is for the extra content that we are charging for.

3) You DO get the magazine at a lower cost, a very significantly lower cost now especially after the price hike. The Digit package includes 1 Magazine, 1 DVD, 1 CD and now one Fast Track book. We have subscribers who subscribed when it was 1 mag and 2 CDs. Today, for the same price, despite inflation and rising costs, we provide them with 1 Mag, 1 DVD, 1 CD and 1 200 page useful Fast Track book. Despite that fact that you went from paying Rs 35 per litre of petrol to around Rs 50 now, added to the ever increasing cost of commodities and price of living, you still get your digit for the same old price. The rest I have answered before...

Publisher also mentioned that we subcriber get our copy at home delivered and others have to go to newsstand to purchase it. It looks like they think subscribers are all handicapped and never leave their homes. What I feel is many of the subscribers would be going to offices and school/colleges and they an pick their copy on the way so Digit is not doing any favour on us by delivering the copy at our place.
Also they proudly send emails to their subscribers(atleast I recieved one) stating that I will recieve my copy of digit on 8th of the month and not on 1st.Even the mail was sent on 4th December i.e after coming to know that magazine would be late this month.

they also mentioned that the printing cost has rised and blah blah..... to justif the price tag of Rs.200/- for newsstand buyer and Rs.50/- extra for subscribers,
but tell me why not other publications and magazines are going the way digit has opted to. Other magazine(especially CHIP) are able to provide 2Cd's and a DVD every month that too at Rs.100/- and they telling us this kind of stories like we are dumb.

Nor Raabo nor the Publisher Mr. M Jasubhai has bothered to clarify their stand. I dont want these free gifts they are giving but I oppose the the price tag of Rs.50/- extra for the subscriber. When we subcribed their was no clause as such that we will have to pay extra for some special gifts. Tomorrow Digit might say that even if subscribers want their magazines they should pay Rs.50/- extra every month and will nicely send them a email or letter justifying their stand. This is not what we expected from a reputed publication house and also they are keeping their mouth shut and not even bothering to reply.

We never said you're handicapped??? Have you NEVER seen ANY ad that tell you about a home delivery service? Did you go and fight with pizza outlets for giving you "free home delivery"? Plus you pay the same amount whether you go and get it or have it delivered. Here, you save money. I would call that an advantage for the subscribers. How do you twist that into us calling you handicapped??? I understand that you're angry, though I cannot understand why, but seriously, let's not make stuff up!

Other magazines may offer a lot of things, but you subscribed to us, quite simply because you get a lot more for your money, even though we may be slightly more expensive. That was a decision you took, and I think it was the right decision, because i know where true value for money lies. I was a subscriber before I joined the team and continue to be one for my dad! Personally, I will not be paying Rs 50 extra, but only because I got T2 with my DVD player and have already played the game before. If I hadn't, I would have gladly paid.

I think the letter clearly mentions that this is a one time ask on our behalf, and I think it is unjust of you to insinuate that we will charge more for the magazine itself every month.

We do not own the copyright for the movie, the producers and distribution companies own that. The costs to us are per DVD.

Now, you should know that many big and famous magazines out there, DO NOT provide subscribers with even special issues, leave alone any bundled goodies. Subscribers get a normal issue with an ad for the special issue and the chance to buy it for the newsstand price or slightly cheaper.

With Digit the content has always been the same for both newsstand and subscribers. As clearly stated in the CEO's letter, this is a one time charge for extra goods, NOT the content of the magazine. The newsstand buyers are paying more for the EXTRA goodies, NOT for the magazine and regular content—and we're asking you to do the same, not pay more than them but same or less.

I have also seen people say why did you give a movie dvd, well, the answer to that is the thousands of e-mails and snail mails and calls we started receiving, as early as October, to get us to give away a movie as we did before. Since a lot of our subscribers already had T2, and the costs for production skyrocketed, we were forced to offer the movie DVD and game CD as an optional package.

We understand that your initial reactions to this will be anger, only because you are used to our policies of passing as little of the costs off on to our readers, and taking the hit ourselves, but in some cases this is not possible. We have hoped that cooler heads will understand what you as subscribers have got thus far, and what you will get in the future, and place a value on it in terms of savings and the extra goodies you have got before for free. I think if you calmly look back at what Digit has provided you with in the past, and even compare it to what other magazines have offered, you will find that it's a lot more than this one time charge of Rs 50.

All I ask of all members of this forum is to think rationally and calmly about your past relationship with Digit, and tell me if paying Rs 50 (Rs 75 for newsstand buyers and outstation subscribers) for something that would cost in excess of Rs 1,000 if you bought it on your own is really so big a deal that it causes you to lose your cool.

There was one suggestion, made in the previous thread that I deleted in order to combine the DVD+CD/Mag thread, which I found very sensible: inform the subscribers one month in advance! I can assure you that as an employee of Jasubhai Digital Media, I will talk to the management and make sure you guys are always informed much in advance. Since our CEO himself has mentioned that this is a one time payment that is being asked of you, I do not think the need to inform subscribers of such things will arise anyway.

I would also like to tell you that the entire team left no stone unturned in trying to find a way to avoid this situation, but alas, finally, the decision was reached only because we found no other way. I sincerely hope you guys understand what I have tried to explain to you in this post.

@Kaysquare: You have a letter signed by our CEO which tells you that this one time we are charging Rs 50 to get EXTRA goodies that are NOT part of the regular Digit package that we promised to give you for your subscription price.

If you want these EXTRA digital discs, you will have to make out a cheque / draft for the amount specified in the letter.

Meanwhile please confirm here that you have received the special Zero1 Awards issue plus the regular Digit CD, DVD and Fast Track book at the same price you paid when you subscribed.

Hmmm. Raaabo has taken great pains to explain the extra payment and I must say I am somewhat convinced. However, IMHO the whole thing could have been presented in a better/different way and there would have been bouquets for Digit instead of brickbats, at least from subscribers

For example, if the letter would have stated that there is a special deal for subscribers to get these things at only Rs. 50 then people would have said WOW!! But the letter sounded so apologetic that people pounced on Digit

I guess, this time, Digit is sufferring for showing that bit of honesty in the letter.

Here's the whole thing in my opinion.

For news-stand buyers, its a packaged deal. Usual Digit issue + the extra stuff. Either pay 200 or skip the issue. But for subscribers, its an option and that too at a discount. So looking at from the other side of the fence, I can say that once again subscribers have been treated better here.

Old game, still older movie. By the way I'm facing problems with AOE III demo. It's saying not enough disk space though it's 1.5 GB left!! Any solutions???

Clear your Temp Folder and try. Use Disk Cleanup

I may be too harsh in saying this but this time digit has really came up with under par performance.I totally agree with above facts.I would like to add one more being a subscriber as they say i have to pay Rs 50 and Rs 25 extra for non mumbai cheques makng total approx to Rs 200 THUS WHOLE PURPOSE OF BEING A SUBSCRIBER IS DEFEATED.MOREOVER I RECIEVED MY MAGAZINE ON 9TH DEC AND IT WAS AVAILABLE AT STANDS ON 1ST

About my view that subscribers are not handicapped I meant to say we the subscribers are not the one who always stays at home (My English is not so good and thatâ€™s why I used the word Handicapped. As still I donâ€™t know which word would fit better)

Almost all the subscribers would go to their respective schools, colleges or offices daily and finding a newsstand on the way would not be difficult and they can pick their magazine from there.

So that Mr.Jasubhai saying that we are getting magazine delivered at are place is such a great thing that he should mention this in his letter and justify extra payment that the subscribers have to pay to get the freebies.

Also you are highlighting the words "ONE TIME PAYMENT", so should the subscribers consider this message from you as official one and they can be assured that they will never be asked to pay extra money to get the freebies or the next time when Digit comes out with a Special or Mega Issue another letter from CEO would be gracing the subscribers justifying another "ONE TIME PAYMENT".

Just bought the Dec issue of Digit from the newstand only to find that the Terminator2 DVD not working. I have an LG combo drive and it doesn't recognize the DVD. What do I do now? Can I exchange it for another one at my newstand? Does Digit compensate them for a faulty DVD?

The Issue what i got is priced at Rs 200 and Printed as Subscriber copy. Hence i should get all the contents accompanied with the magazene at no extra cost when the same magazene is available for 200 rupees to other buyers with all these extra contents. Otherwise let the so called DIGIT give me a magazene which is printed as priced at Rs 100 or Rs 125.

1. DIGIT has declared that SUBSCRIBERS WILL BE PROTECTED FROM FUTURE PRICE HIKES AND ANY SPECIAL ISSUES PRICED HIGH THAN THE REGULAR MAGAZENE in all their previous issues for the purpose of availing subscription. and now if they ask for additional money for whatsoever is the reason it is like cheating the subsdriber and they have all valid reasons to go to CONSUMER COURT as it will be a lesson for all.

2. Even after getting Rs 50 they have to send the gifts again by courier or post which involves some cost which could have been saved by them and will not get enough from the subscribers.

So KAYSQUARE let me also join with you in the opinion to goto CONSUMER COURT and similar subcribers also can stand united and PROVE WHOM WE ARE TO DIGIT.

Final Conclusion:
I'll send in the cheque as I think that this is only time investment and am desperate to get the movie dvd.
But I really don't like the idea of paying the 25 rs as my cheque is outstation cheque.

Digit should apply different srategy,
digit should not pack all goodies in one month, rather divide the goodies over a period of time. This would result in cost reduction as well as happy subscribers/ Newsstand buyers. :lol:

And a surprise is always welcome.

Avoid printing high profile models photos if it increases the cost a lot.

The issue is not as bad as you guys have promoted it. surely there are dozens of ads, but they need to have them to survive in the market.

Anyways fast track series is about to end (10 out of 12 issues are out).
This would surely cut the costs. Hope they plan to continue it for some more time as these are really informative. and include the pdf's of the previous issues please.

Been following Digit for few months though

to say irregularly. This month's issue was great but my heart flinched a bit for 200/-, but it was worth it.

All your articles were really great!!! And what I liked even more was the amount of content! I spent some 6 hours reading and understanding. (Talk about slow fellows like me

!) At least for me there was no problem with either DVD or CD!

Your guide to gaming was more about heavy multiplayers online games! Though I agree that cities are now having good internet connections but these are few! But more schocking was your one paragraph on flash games!!! I think they deserve more consideration!

And about AoE3, I installed it in another drive and tried the update but it did not work; so what to do?

All in all things are good, but I just feel you are slowly going away from average users and readers. Still, your's is a wonderful magazine and am very happy to buy it.

it is really bad on your part to subscriber like me, it is very unfair that i have to pay 50Rs for 2 extra, subscriber is supposed to get benefit from inflation,rate increasing,etc
but it is all new strange tht your company had decided to charge subscriber it is reallly bad on your policy...

and found tht Terminator 2 is not on single dvd instead it is being clubbed with other which is again not good idea. i hope u better off with simple special pack with better contents.

what is more worst tht for subscriber who had order the extra cds, you had sent the cds content in pathetic envelope instead of better jewel case it will be BETTER for some subscriber if they want to buy extra CDs at the extra COST!

more so, in news-stand, there is always it come with some jewel-case for cover of dvd or cd or whatsoever, i m not concerned with this, it might give justice to newstand, but it is grave justice to subscriber as u had mentioned that subscriber has benefit from inflation, etc, actually it is news-stand user had great benefit. hope you learn this way for coming new year, never do it again.....

This month issue is a good one but I`m really upset that Price of Digit is increasing month by month but the quality of pages is really bad.I think they should do something about it . :evil:

We decided on a sports theme, and the obvious choice was Sania, as she is the highest ranked Indian tennis player. It's sort of like trying to emphasize the whole "champions" thing.

Even if we got one of the biggest bollywood stars or the highest paid sportsman/woman on our cover, the payment would have not even been close to the losses we would have to incur by giving 40,000 subscribers the movie DVD for free.

You guys demanded a movie, we gave it to you but for an extra price, which is solely your choice. It would be helpful if someone would tell me what the exact price of a legal copy of terminator 2 costs in the market!

I have asked people to follow the forum rules, but you are crossing boundaries by mentioning competitor magazines. Perhaps you should look more closely at their offerings over the next few months, compare it to ours and then decide.

If you say that the magazine sucks I would appreciate feedback as to what you liked and what you didn't. Simply saying look at X they're better! is not helping. If you would be so kind as to elucidate I would be very grateful. Remember, no comparisons please, just suggestions for digit. Raaabo, it is right that one should not compare DIGIT to other magazine in this forum as per the rule but chippy is just furstrated just like some of us, so don't take it seriously. And by the way it is too late to argue about the december issue.
But I think that Raaabo and TEAM DIGIT must have looked into the controversy and whatever problems faced by the subscriber and newstand buyers and would seriously try to solve it. Specially the late delivery of magazine to the subscribers, plz make sure that the january issue reaches subscriber on time. Thanks.

Hell , I havent got my magazine yet.
It happens every month for the last 2-3 months.
Earlier I used to get my Mag in first week of the month.
But now , Its always a loooooong wait .
Even I had called to their Mumbai office on 11th and they said my issue has been dispatched four days before and will be reaching anytime.
But I m still waiting.
Now I wish , I should not have subscribed to digit.
There is no use of getting the Mag so late as by that time I had already read the Mag from my friends or my college library.
But then the point is , What is I m benefitting from Subscription.Hence I have dropped the idea of my renewal.
I used to love Digit but now I m afraid I couldnt continue that...

i thought that subriscption was mainly done by people to save money....man here you save a lot by subscribing to digit....i think u can compromise on time...neways its your wish.!!!

But digit is damn irresitable....!!

All I had written in that post was that instead of giving cheap trinkets along with the subscription, Digit would do well to give subscription at concessional rates. I subscribe the magazine for content and not for frebees ( Unless freebees are of sufficeintly good quality to really matter).

It is bad form to quote exaggerated prices of the freebees. Do you all think that the readers of the Digit are all dumb? I can understand your compulsions to promote some products but please do it judiciously, that is , by giving the subscribers freedom of choice. What will I do with a camera which is of no use to me.

That is why I opted to renew my subscription for one year only, because I really like to read the magazine and the booklet and would like to keep getting it regularly. The CD/DVD s are also good.

I hope that the next offer will be smarter.

Firstly before I start to comment, I would like to make it clear that whatever I am going to state in the followings lines must me taken as suggestions and NOT any comparision with other mags please.

Ok so, u mean to say that you/your company paid Rs 299/- each to acquire that DVD from the market and you are bundling that with the mag for FREE ? :?:

So here is the low down on it. You people first go find sponsers for your mag and persuade companies other than yours to sponser products for low price purchase scheme with your mag. So, this people can earn some FREE advertisement and future programs/Carnivals guest invitees (like SKOAR! Lan party). Secondly this people can reach to wider array of customers accross India.

Now, you will ask how a DVD can help a company advertise in this case.
You have bundled Discovery shoot out with the DVD so, the Discovery people could be your sponsers in this case.

However, I agree that they might have not provided the DVD content FREE to you/your company but might have charged minimum, say Rs 50 or so. (NOTE: This is suggestive only). Hence, comparing the Terminator DVD with the one available in the market does not make any sense at all.

But yes, I appreciate your efferts to bring this DVD to bundle with the mag however.

Now, A little about Sania Mirza.

Well to say the list, a Sports Theme does not fit anywhere in a Tech Mag, be it competion highlight or Awards highlight. Instead why don't you fit in Bill Gates ? :?:

He has got competetors lurking around him and he still the most successful man in the TECH WORLD. I don't criticise Linux or Mac, but you know better then me what really works in the DESKTOP section of most offices---- Microsoft., easy to configure, easy to learn, easy to work with..... that makes him successful. So, you can't you highlight his ++ to inspire developers do the correct jobs of developing easy to use softwares. (I don't say Linux of Mac is hard to use)

And yes, there is another angle to it. The money you paid to Sania Mirza could have been well utilized to give away the DVD FREE to the subscribers, after all they are your assets and not the newstand buyers. (that's my logic)

It takes time to build Assets for any company , be it your customers, your staff, anyone for that matter, and this needs to be taken seriously. You can't risk loose a good staff on your roll, just b'coz he took a leave for 5 days without informing his office b'coz there was an emergency. I hope you get my point.

Hey , What is this? :roll: Do you mean to say that a man spending Rs. 200 for a one night stand is more faithful to his (changeable) partner than a regularly married guy who once in a while has some sharp exchanges with his long time partner?

One thing I have observed in this thread is that people have been too much critical about the issue of what should be on the cover of Digit. It is a very subjective thing and it is useless to try to convince sombody as to what is good to have on the cover.

I would like to have a booklet fully dedicated to PHOTOSHOP, in Digit's typical user friendly language and of course, a 'smarter' subscription offer next time

A guy who compares a magazine to a mans relations truely has some issues anyways i dont get the hang of such things easily but one thing according to sales figure or even simple maths i can say is subcribers pay less and we pay more nothing else

Oh God, as a newbie I thought there would be something more exciting on the feedback. We buy from the street regularly and then decide to subcribe one day...period. And digit knows that. Hey Digit staff, I loved the issue and the movie...and do put sania or whoever you think fit on the cover...and do carry more stuff on buying guides and ergonomics...may be the stuff available in India and not just pictures of some ergo keyborads and mice and Herman Miller like chairs.

Did in my any post i say that i m disatisfied from being a newstand buyer i guess not we all have our reasons and premsharma the arguement is not about why or why dont we subscribe, its about him saying that newstand buyers are not digit assets.

DECEMBER MEGA ISSUE

dr. digit, don't you think that you have deceived the subscribers by demanding Rs. 50 extra for DVD's & cd. This is not fair. however I am sending the money for DVD's & cd as Rs. 50/- is not a big amount but the procedure to procure them is long and time consuming. I am a regular subscriber for last three years. In future kindly do not black mail emotionally.

To share my experience-

I had the biginner's luck with the contest and won a camera in my first try. Later I entered in many more digit contests without winning a straw. Then I figured that the probablity of winning is becoming lesser and lesser because of more and more participants entering into the contest. Then I just stopped paying attention to the contest altogether treating it as just another lottery.

One thing about that Motocross Madness game. It installes a "spyware" called DSSAGENT. The file will be present in %Windir%\Bbstore folder.

AdAware has given a "threat" rating of 8 out of 10!

Here's an info about this:

DSSAGENT is a tool that lets software developers push a new splash screen into a program at any time, e.g. for bug reports and product updates--but I think it's probably more centered around advertising This program has been seen most often bundled with children's software titles from Mattel Interactive/Broderbund. I have also had a report of the module being installed by AOL 6.0 and hammering the DNS server with "MILLIONS" of requests for www.brodcast.net.

An (apparently) discontinued spyware product of BrÃ¸derbund Software. Bundled with most BrÃ¸derbund and Learning Company titles until April, 2002.A desktop computer running DSSAgent might send over 10,000 DNS requests in 15 minutes, slowing network traffic. There are reports that it slows CPU processing as well.

DSSAGENT.EXE tries to connect to its server and downloads the "Splash screen" News or Ads or whatever.

This tool is bundled with Mattel Interactive, The Learning Company games.

However, it doesnt change any browser settings or any other system settings. But, its known to hog resource.

I do not think that they think as asset of news stand buyers, otherwise, they would not have forced rs 200 issue. they could have given choice to buy without game & movie for rs 125. But such choice was not given to news stand buyers. Basically, they think that news stand buyers are a lot where they can enforce new policies and recover the cost of providing a movie & game if the subs cribers do not respond in large numbers.

I don't it was an issue to subscriber because they had option decide either way. For subscriber, it was as simple as don't take those extra useless stuff. I am having this useless game & useless movie. I can give it to any one free of cost. Just provide me Rs 25 for courier charges

Let's forget this issue & concentrate on future issues. Digit archiving software and present interface is of prime importance.
