I was hoping some good Unix...the last time you gave freeBSD images, they did not boot. I can say that because I tried three different copies of that issue. Thanks to my mag vendor. He was kind enough to let me do that.

Helo guys atlast they felt ashmed and gave the details of june 2008. But still the work is not finished. They havn't update the web page. He gave it in the forum.
It proves that these guys are not able to handle the work. On 6 th of june their work is still not finished. Shame on you team digit or "dit-it for urself".

Have the old efficient staff fired and these useless are appointed.

Whats the use of Old flop movies, thats too not one but 7.
They had just to fill the space.
and 7 muzic albums who need them.
But I hope that magazine will have lots and lots of good things for us. And i had started believing that this issue will be memorable one. But only the Magazine.

Magazine contents are great but dvd is disappointing.

Magazine content is fine but the 2 DVD they are useless as they are trying to fill the space with useless movies and music album which can be find easily on net with not much work also.
Also after 6 days over in June and even the website is not updated. So guys do some hard work to be on time as previous staff was much efficient in this case that they don't delay in updating the site and never the issue are circulated late like you guys do as if i remember correctly then this is 3rd issue which is late.

Also if you don't have good content for DVD then why you ship 2. provide us one DVD but the content should be great and don't repeat same utility which you share each month.

The mag contents seems to be interesting.. as for DVD I was expecting Fedora 9 but alas!

@asnvin 5 dvds not 6 . I still have them lying on my desk :))

but just 2 dvds and 200bux is insane. Atleast 3 dvds should have been there. This issue is worth not more than 150bucks coz cd is removed. .and it will be better that u guys place ads on fast track also and try to reduce the price of the mag .guys chip kitne ka hai :))

3. branded desktop buying guide was unnessassary

magazine rating: 7/10 - could use some improvement
price rating: 3/10 - not worth 200 rupees, I would be better off getting myself a pen drive.

Common team digit this is ur aniversry edition and the DVD contents looks like an addition of all the previous DVD,CD contents except the movies and the Albums

. Please dont make us frustrated with the old movies instead u can give some Screen shots or videos regarding the linux installation

or something else.

The content in the Mag are well place and are of high quality indeed

Crap DVD contents...
Earlier i used to buy every issue of digit coz i had no net connection but now i have and that too night time UL

Will take max of 3-5 days to download all the softwares and other things ..
so within 3-5 days i can create a DVD of myself...

The only + point is the pdf's of mag and fast track..
But the thing is i hate to read pdf..i have GB's of pdf's but have not completed even one..
looks like i like only good old hard copy

Contents are sort of OK, but certainly not worth Rs 200.

AS I ALREADY TOLD, CHIP DVDs are also USELESS FOR EVERY MONTH WHEN COMPARED TO DIGIT .

FOR THIS MONTH CHIP DVD-, ALL THE CONTENTS ARE USELESS EXCEPT SERVICE PACKS, AND UBUNTU.

CHIP EXCELLS ONLY ON ITS MAG CONTENT. NOT DVDs. TRUST ME.
THIS IS THE TRUTH.

THOSE WHO LIKE DVD CONTENTS, SIMPLY GO TO PCWORD INSTEAD OF CHIP.
PCWORD HAS WORLD CLASS DVD CONTENTS...

May I suggest you just one thing.........or rather two.............
Give us 1 big game instead of many small ones and

Digit – June 2008 Anniversary Special Edition

Magazine: As expected, the magazine is just 136 pages with quite a number of ads. The ads are fine but Digit should have at least added some more articles and made it a 200 page book. I did go through a few articles and stories, some are good and some are average. The paper quality is not as good as the earlier issues.

Caution: Please keep a pair of scissors handy to cut out the pages like I had to do, as they were stuck, possibly some binding or cutting problem.

Jumbo Fast Tracks: The six so called Jumbo are between 14 and 22 pages each. The fast tracks end before you even begin reading them. Out of the little number of pages, you have small ads on almost all the pages plus full page ads too.

The DVDs

DVD 1: 250 Freeware: - Windows XP SP3 and Ubuntu 7.10 Training Courseware are the only main things I would look forward to on this DVD. The other software on the disc is just average and not of much use for me. I don’t know if others would like them as well.

DVD 2: Special: - The only thing I liked about this DVD is the Digit and Fast Track archives in PDF format. The movies are not all worth it, its just a filler and its quite clear.

In Brief

Positive

+ A few good articles
+ Windows XP SP 3, Ubuntu Training material and Digit and Fast track in PDF

Negative

- Not at all worth the price tag of Rs.200/-
- NO DVD case for the DVDs
- Filled with movies that no one would bother to watch

I've read all the posts in this thread and found that nobody is satisfied with DVD contents........can I dare to define NOBODY???
NOBODY->Those who are having access to Internet with good download speed, they will always have those S/W distributions earlier than any mag DVD distro. The DVD contents are still useful to those offline Digit readers. Don't u think so??

I'm supporting Digit as I simply love it in any form. I'm with it for the last 6 yrs. I am very much thankful to them for making me such tech-hungry. Every tech vocabulary, brand names even trying other tech mags also their contribution. Plz don't judge Digit only on its DVD contents; the s/w distros wil be same for any mag distro for a month that to 80%-90%. Its d mag contents that makes our Digit unique.

I can proudly say that I love Digit and will support it though I've not yet received my subscriber's copy for d month.

^^The reason is the quality that Digit provided to readers at a time and it was the undisputed leader in the market. Readers are surely going to complain when there is so much fall in quality.

Digit provides pdf version of its issues periodically. If you have missed it now, you may get them in the next special issue.

Subscribers get magazine late. It comes first to retail stands and then to subscribers. Wait for 5-6 more days.

The DVDs

I've said this before, I'll say this again: try to include more l33tish content. It's not the DVD/CDs that matter, it's the mag contents. Ads are OK with most of us ol' digit fans

I found Chip articles to be very easy to follow as they have lots of screenshots to aid. Digit should include screenshots too. But quality wise Digit writers are ahead than Chip.

My conclusions

1. I save Rs. 50.00 as I bought Chip for 150.00 only. I my friend has a loss of Rs 200.00 as there was nothing special about this "special issue".

2. There is no Q&A in this edition this month.
3. No fast track. They call some 12 pages stapled together a Jumbo Fast Track. Believe me these are not fast tracks. Only their way of fooling us .to add some "ads" and not to provide some useful content.

4. These Jumbo fast tracks are only cheap buying guides with no brands or models suggested. These are their old articles which they publish with their shoot outs and in their December Issues.

5. Magzine content is 80% useless. NO Q&A I said no Q$A .

6. Pages in this june issue are same as their ordinary issue but this time they dedicated more pages to ads.

7. Ads. are superb. If you want to see good ads content then please buy this mag.

8. Tech Careers is good. Features|Insight is Ok. but may be useless for many.

9. page 73 to 103 are dedicated to the wi fi router and laptops shootouts. After that some pages of Bazzar .

10. Ask agent 001 is good as always. Then their is workshop. Good one. Then game reviews and The magzine ends.

11. At starting this time they have the letters from us. One reveals a shocking truth for digit team which we all of us know.

12. Total Pages 134.

So who haven't wasted their money pleas save it and buy chip or pc world.

And dear Raboo we want our old Fast track back. And please dont play this trick again as u played with the december issue. There You broke ur magazine in different parts and inserted ads in their cover pages. Same you did here .What is the use of such tricks to fool us actually you food yourself. I really do not how many copies have u have printed for this month and if possible pls do me a favour. Pls let me know if guys have sent any copies to Visakhapatnam. Frm last Sat I am going to the Bookshops for this Mag and the Book keeper say "it will come tomorrow" and I am really sick to listen this. Pls tell me if u have sen any copies here.

thanks vimal u have saved my Rs.200 , i am actually not very happy bcoz i love digit ,as a regular reader i want this copy too..but i am disappointed by digit, December issue was also not good. i think special editions should have lots of stuff it doesn't matter how many adds team digit adds but at least provide more stuff on special editions ...and one most imp request .."bai dvd ka case to achha lgga dia kro"

. There are many loyal readers to digit. Moreover I am one of them. I cannot admit that this months edition is 80% useless( as u said). I don not know in which way u rated. Oh yes when compared to last years edition this edition is on the lower side. It does happen sometimes. What I think is only the DVD contents are not up to the mark. The Mag contents are just great

, no other can even come close to digit.

For me the article " I R GEEK" was really fun filled.(*****)

7 wonders was simply too good.(*****)

Laptop and Wireless routes testing was avg must say an update for us.(***). However a job done by testers must be appreciated.

64 Bit computing was also good. I expected even more stuff from this article.(***)

The seven workshops was wonderful for me.(*****)

Agent 001 was angain in his elements and simply in his typical stlye built two HTPC.(*****)

Ahhh comming to the Jumbo Fast track

Hmmmmm it was colorful and an eye candy. I think more pages can be included. Adds are not an issue as I can just turn the pages off. Fast track to "Wire free" was not so good. This was already covered in the Mag. Nothing new. "Audio/Visual" these were covered in the May and April issues. No wonder why many guys disliked the fast track issue. "Printing" you could have covered abt the All in one's. There were ads abt them though. I was expecting you test the latest HP Photosmart series(HP Photosmart C8100 All-in-One series)."Gaming" was again a flop. I must admit this. There was no puch in all the Fast tracks."Smart computing" &"Personal Technology" was good among the 7.

An overall avg Fast Track.(Some points gained only because it was printed in color).(**)

The DVD contents are already mentioned above do not want to add anything to it.

As a normal issue it would be great. As a special edition with guys expecting too much this issue gives a little.

I am also a fan of Digit. But where is this magzine is going. A full one week delay made us to think that this issue will really be special. But you tell me whts special abt it.
1. Seven wonders starts with
(i) " No Boundaries": Here we get half column about Histories of Laptops, PDAs, Cell Phones. If you hve read it whats new in that article. I had to skip lines to complete it because it has nothing new in it. rating 1/10
(ii) Everything for Everyone: Three page discussion abt opensource and piracy. (4/10).
(iii) Stuck Behind the keyboard: Its quite confusing what the author want to say. He has problems with the present keyboards and wants touch pads. Thats all.(3/5)
(iv) 57 channels : Here he has problem with the non availability of HD content and the Displays. (3/10)
(v)Us versus them:Myths and truths about the games.This is somewhat interesting to read although you don't get anything from it. still (6/10)
(vi) Out of time : future of processors, multicores etc. (6/10)
(vii)last you: all about social networking .which they had told us many times in their past articles.(1/10)
total 24 out of 70 voillla they passed in my test with good third division.

Thats all for Rs 200.00 :!:

And I'm not gonna race off to mumbai to get the mag coz it's not available in my city. Digit got pwned by chip(I would've liked to use abusesfor chip but dont wanna get banned) this month.I'm a loyal reader too, but this isn't digit! This just cant be the old, glorious, splendid digit! I totally agree with ax3's suggestion of changing staff or getting the 1999-2003 team back. For god's sake this is even lousier than Skoar!

@roshan & toofan mail: Holi ka season chala gaya mere bhai and use normal fonts and colours plz. It hurts and it is not that difficult to behave like normal beings.

As on the magazine they seem to just print those letters thanking & praising Digit all the time. Muh miyaa Miththuu Banna. Oxymoron comes to my mind.
So disappointed with the DVD Movies/Music contents. Its so laughable that Digit considers those movies to be watchable for normal beings

Start being a Tech magazine again and rest assure I wont stop buying Digit( I keep buying them every month

The movies and music are useless. I have never heard any album or even heard even a single track. It just consumes disk space and nothing else.

In that space you can give some Harware testing videos, Good wallpapers and Why not start the Digit Patron again..

And BTW the magazine is still not available in Mumbai.

Save money and go for other options. you can even buy a chip and pc world that would be much better then buying this month edition.And these magazines would be easily available in your locality.
Digit isn't arrived in nainital yet. I got it from my friend who bought it form delhi.
I am not a fool to subscribe this mag. at its current status.

My dear I am a Digit reader frm October 2006(Notable Portable) till then not missed a single copy. I still remember the last years Aniversery(Sixth Sense) edition--got a DON wit that. U know one thing the Oct 2006 edition had 150 pages. Since then I am seeing the reduction of pages and also the Articles. This does happen the degradation to be precise. However the Fast Track remained to be same until the recent issue where they just destroyed the issue. I do agree with everyone regarding the JUMBO fast track issue.

I will never ever agree that the Mag contents are useless because unlike other mags Digit does not get matter from the websites they have to procure them so me must appreciate that. Their experience have been shared on the Mag.

Ahh the DVD contents I never bothered abt that I know iot the accumulation of all previous dvd & cd. I will surely give a big thumbs down to the 2 DVD. I belive Digit is the first to introduce Movies in the Cd or DVD. Must say we cannot expect more frm them regarding movies.

If Team Digit thinks they have done a job..no they have a huge task cut out the aniversery edition was a flop. I request team digit to pls try to increase the articles for reference pls see ur older issues. Do not forget ur roots.

I am Vamsi Subhash.I am a huge fan of DIGIT particularly during 2003-04.I have been buying digit every month in the stores since the establishment(i have not subscribed because I am not stable at one place).

I really like the editorial every month.The fast tracks are really excellent and even dominated the magazine.What happened to the previous editors and other team digit members?

But since when it was undertaken by 9.9 media I have seen many negitive steps which could possibly ruin the magazine and hence writing this letter.Please take these advice positively as this is the opinion of me and my friends(also digit fans).

1.The special issues donot arrive the stores until the second week of that month.This time the date became 15th.
2.The special issues though good,are not really worth 200 rupees everytime.Especially the current anniversary issue was not up to the mark.The jumbo fast tracks are real "utter flops".
The freeware dvd is simply excellent!But the other dvd was useless.The cover page topic is worth one reading but contaied information that was given in the previous fast tracks.Overall good,but not excellent as it used to be in 03-04s.
3.(IMPORTANT)Think more creatively and focus more on creative articles rather than the magazine layout,colour,DVD user interface(they are good).
4.Leave the fast track as it is.Do not feed it up with ads.Dont colour it if you want to reduce the pages in it also.
5.Concentrate on including more articles rather than other extras on which the most concentration is on.
6.Make sure that you give the correct knowledge to readers worth the money than the extra goodies.Compulsarily include ebooks in each CD/DVD for serious people like me.

I hope you consider my advice.Even if you donot publish this in the mag,I hope you better forward this to all your staff as they seem to be missing their primary aim.Besides these sugessions I honour you as my best technology navigator for the past,present and the mere future.

Most of the people in this forum are all old horse(in terms of digit fans). When I went through the first digit magazine I was just flattened, surprised that any magazine can be that addictive. I read it in just one sitting and after that It become a hell to pass the month in wait of next edition. And what happened next month(that was December) It was there special issue. It was late( as usual) so I have to wait till the 13th of that month. And I can't explain how I felt waiting (it's like the same feeling as i used to have, when i waits for my girlfriend, its such a agony).I think i just explained. It was really hard to pass the month after reading the issue. But now from past 1 year or 6 months. Team digit has degraded their quality. They are loosing in every front I think .

They cut down their december issue(thats too without fast track) to pieces to add more advertisments. But that really don't help them. As i am putting a simple camparison between their december/2007 issue and Chip's dec/2007 issue.

Digit 12/07 : Total pages to read(leaving ads.) 151
Chip 12/07 : Total pages to read(leaving ads.) 165(chip has +14)

Digit 12/07 : Total No of pages including ads: 212
chip 12/07 : Total No of pages including ads: 236 (chip has +24)

Means that Chip is getting more Ads than Digit. you can think why? because their reader base is increasing every month because of their quality content.

digit don't have Fast track that month.
Chip has their separate Tech reference guide in which they suggested brands and models to buy. While digit included buying guide in there main magazine thats too without suggesting brands or models.

digit costs: 200
chip costs: 150

I personally feel that Digit is more inclined to Hardware while chip is towards software and all that tiny things you need to know about tweaking your OS or software etc. Thats too is benefiting chip.

This is just my thinking that digit is lagging far behind. they should have to take some serious steps to improve and maintain their reader base.
( They can fire this lazy and slow working staff and can call their old staff back.)

I invites all of the forum members to please let me and others know what they really think that who will be the last winner between chip and digit (digit has evolved from chip itself). Let us all help digit to improve themselves by showing them the truth. They always keep on boasting about themselves as you can feel this in their articles or editorial or their letter section.

I am a subscriber from Dombivli, near Mumbai, and received my issue today...thatz on 17 June 2008...thatz a helluvaa delay...even if its a anniversary issue!! I have read a lot abt this issue here....and have to agree that the DVDs r absolutely hopeless this time(except for sp3 and ubuntu 08.04)....i mean when u use 3.78GB on useless, pathetic, amatuerish movie projects...one really wonders that a mag like digit doesnt have anything useful/entertaining to fill that much of space!! have jus gone thru the mag once....but surely there is a lot of effort there... jus to put together 7 mags in one issue!! hoping that digit will take this feedback seriously and improve on the content in the comin issues!!

The content of the magazine was really nice... Did digit get new writers? The style of writing has improved over the months.. Really nice magazine but the DVD totally sux.

After 76 months of continued addictions(from Oct 2001), i didn't buy June'08 DIGIT anniversary issue for the first time....
But i won't forgot my "DIGIT" as my initial 'guru' of Tech.....

I have till now not recieved my copy of Digit.
I am a subscriber ,and like this digit treats its subscribers.

I got the issue yesterday only. the DVD's are great working of the TEAM DIGIT hats off to you for that. But as for the splitting of the book into seven wasn't a good idea this time. Before issue of DEC, 07 was nice however, but June issue really disthroned me off the seat. I would have liked only one of the fast track instead of the so-called Jumbo Fast Tracks. I really am feeling bad for that. Still, the DVD contents are nice and fill up the place for it.

What is this?!? Digit still not available in my town! Anyway, I have bought chip. AAAAND, My subscription expired last month, and I got a mail informing me that Digit June 2008 shipping will be started from 17th of June! I have not paid for this :lol:

Same case for me too! By repeating 4 pages Digit has made some damage to environment.

They might have have tried to make the magazine look thicker.
And you should keep knife with ur self to read this special issue. as cutting of magazine is not done properly. Most of the page are together.

Of course, the quality might have gone down recently, but there is no other magazine which comes close to digit. And from what i have observed, the style of writing and the presentation of the articles has changed. There is a lot of room for improvement. But, digit is the best tech magazine out there.

But I too have heard that some people(may be very few) changes the ratings of the product review in the Bazaar section ,when they were offered ads of that brands. That I have heard from a group of vendors discussing about a product which was reviewed. They told me about one such incident. They told me that they started their carrier reading digit but all of them has left doing so. The reason they gave me is that this magazine is not left as such as it was 2-3 years ago and doesn't have much to provide them now. But that time I just ignored that statement.
But that letter reminds me of that incident again. But I hope you all will be doing your work with total faith and truth(means Imandari i am not getting the word).

I'm a subscriber of Digit and I've received their copy on 18th of this month. I'm not angry as I've received it anyway. I just don't mind about d delay as its d contents dat compensate all d wait.
C, i'm a subscriber of PC world too. Their service is good, means I get d mag on 1st to 3rd of every month, but they are not up-to d mark of Digit. In some(i'l say quite a few areas they are still following Digit). I read Chip too from my office library..........as we all know about Chip-->Digit story.....I can still find similarities b/w these two. Articles are more standard in Digit.
DVD contents???? Oh come on...........Should DVD contents be an issue to get angry over such a wonderful mag. As I've said before, I'm saying again............DVD contents for Any magazine is same upto 80% irrespective of the month. Lets not fight over that.
Ya .......i agree after d takeover and some days before it the ads and paper quality has gone down but hey ......the articles are same informative.

Im also digit reader from 2002 OCtober...to May 2008. (Yes i didnt buy June 08 issue for the first time..) and im also subscriber of PCWORLD, CHIP..

If my digit will concentrate on 'Suggestion box' , defintly i will sure, it will come back as "King" of Tech Mag..

this is what i feel about JUNE 2008.

first of all why call it a jumbo fast track jab woh fast track "suru hote hi khatam ho jata hai". and you guys cant even provide DVD cases ? rs 200 main to aana chaiye. i dont know why you have split the fasttrack into so many tiny pieces. a huge color fast track on something intrestresting would have been better. if i compare this special with other specials digit used to give, it is thinner (i have not counted any pages but the mag feels thinner). you guyz could have at least made that ubuntu linux bootable.

the bottomline : not worth rs 200.
by the way , i have been buying digit from the early years when it was called CHIP and this is the most disappointing issue for me and it will be the last digit i bought.

Digit's services have become pathetic. I am a subscriber since June 2003...

Today is 24th of June and I haven't recieved my copy of June issue (so called anniversary issue) yet...Pathetic services....I am not gonna renew next year if these things do not improve and they carry on like this.....

I don't have any problem with the ads. But the way they have presented the june/08 issue it will only results in loss to the reader base and loss to the ads also. mean At last we have to suffer. so make them aware of what they are doing wrong.

This anniversary edition was one of the third class edition ever.I am sorry but Digit is going lazy and lazy.I am very angry to pay Rs 200 for a useless bit of in formations .The DVDs which came with it ,I just threw them away with useless stuffs.

PCWORLD & CHIP is improving with very high speed.

This time Digit really disappointed us.The paper quality is also decreasing.

Well guys now stop bashing them. Bashing them is of no use. The issue was pretty bad and they messed up things really well. If we are not satisfied the subscribers among us can decide not to renew the subscription (since we are locked in and cannot claim refund) and the non-subscribers have always a choice of choosing not to buy any particular issue. If they go on publishing such issues they will realise their mistakes only in three or four months when the sales of DIGIT will start to dwindle. Don't wake them up lest them sleep in peace till their sales get dwindled

2. Chip 1 year subscription for Rs. 1099 with no freebies. (But extremely good selection of softwares, and the greatest packing).

3. Digit 1 year subscription for Rs. 1800 and free 1 GB Pen drive. (worth Rs. 175) Erstwhile greatest tech mag in India, now with the worst packing, horrible crap-filled dvds.

I'm going to buy this month's Digit today, if this too doesn't please me, I don't know, I may have to switch loyalty.

This is not worth of Rs. 200. Had it been a regular priced issue, I would have said its great...but it is not. Still thanks for not including worthless Bollywood potboilers in a tech mag, which primarily Digit is.
