It's the ame problem with both. While booting up, it hangs on :-

Starting Hotplug Subsystem

This never happened on my other system, any ideas why ?

Hot plug is the hardware detection tool used by linux distro's, especially live cds. Seems one or more of your hardware is causing the tool to hang for a very long time. Instead of booting by pressing enter at the prompt, boot by entering linux nohotplug and see (sometimes it might be "ubuntu nohotplug" or something, check the help screen, usually accessed by F1, to get more info).

If you have an nvidia card give the command as xmodule=nv while booting with the live cd.
