1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)
INR 25-35k

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
  • Thin and Light; 12" - 14" screen
  • Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook?
This will be used by my father for his office work, documentation, web browsing and maybe to watch movies sometimes.
He has been using Dell N5110 since January 2012 lol.
No gaming at all.

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?
At least recent 4c/8t processor, 8/16 GB DDR4/5 ram (upgradable to 16 if 8 is the stock), 512 GB nvme ssd, 2 USB 3.2 ports (avoid 2.0 please). If its running on Ryzen APUs, option to reduce VRAM allocation in bios, HDMI out
Backlit keyboard would be good to have

How are these?

amazon.in/Dell-14-Rheinland-Certified-Comfortview/dp/B0BQJ9HZPP
Open to suggestions

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like: Asus, Lenovo, Dell
b. Dislike: Apple, don't want to buy e-waste.

6) Anything else you would like to say?
  • Screen resolution ( 768p (HD) / 900p / 1080p (Full HD) ): 1080p or 1200p IPS screen
  • Battery back up ( normal (3-4hrs) / extended (5-7hrs) ): Whatever highest possible I can get without compromising on the core hardware
  • Purchase place ( Online (eg - flipkart, infibeam) / Local / Abroad (do mention the country) ): Amazon.in sale

This vivobook doesn't have option to upgrade memory. Otherwise it is good. Also, you cannot change the VRAM on this. I think this is standard for all AMD laptops at this price range.

Except soldered RAM, that Vivobook looks good honestly. Many budget laptops have TN panel though, even at 40-45k.

This has a TN panel, else is great for the price.

Another option but is MSI & FK

I tried to demo it today, it only has 7.7 GB free ram and taking reference of my debloated Windows 11 install, it won't be enough IMO.
I would look for other options TBH.

I agree. 8GB RAM is the realistic minimum RAM you need for Windows, has been for years.

"Soldered" RAM means no upgrade

The Dell one has 2 ram slots and a 120 Hz panel (supposedly).
Another option but is MSI & FK
MSI seems to be evolving in reverse. Why have a USB 2.0 port in a laptop in 2024, let alone 2?

I have no experience with extended warranty options on amazon. Should I take any of them or should they be skipped?
Skip for such budget laptops. If you are getting manufacturer warranty for say 1k or 1.5k for 2 years extra, then can get that.

Forgot to update, got the Dell Vostro 3420. No 120 Hz panel but my father won't need or notice it IMO.
