Samsung Galaxy S2 Price Drop?

Now that S3 has been launched and released widely in India and the instore price is 40k with the bluetooth headset.. Can be found for 1-2k cheaper online,
isn't it time that Samsung reduce the price on its predecessor S2 yet ?

What are they waiting for ?. Or they wont drop the price at all Since S2 and S3 prices are already 13 k apart , so they fall in different ranges ?.

S3 is too expensive for me at this price ,and with my kind of usage S2 is more than enough ( not to mention the newer S2 comes with ICS preloaded )...

I'm looking to buy it for 25k or less.. Not interested in buying online...

So is it worth to wait for the price drop ??

I believe they might drop the price and take it out of the market. The trend has been seen by a lot of company where they dont drop the price for a lot of successful product and take it out... Suggest you to wait for 2 weeks... if they decide of dropping then they will do that within that time.

As u already mentioned, 13k price diff is lot and make them fall in different segment.

On the other hand, S2 might get a cut if HTC one S comes out... might be within 2 weeks...

Most likely ONE S is not going to drill S2 price down ... Wait for the launch of ONE S and buy S2 what ever price is at that time ? :shock:

These are the only cons of the phone, as you know future of all phones is of non-removable battery and no SD slots. It is started by Apple now HTC & Sony started to follow in new phones. If someone is getting I9100 for around 25k, it's not a bad deal.

16 GB is fine for a smartphone. Why do you need more memory?

Well with future phones, its always good to have 32 GB atleast .. just my personal opinion.. High res pix are approx 4- 5MB each and we would like to carry some music / movies library and games along.. 16 GB to me looks little cramped ...

You should keep movies, music library on you PC, it safer in HDD of PC. Only put selective ones on the phone.
Also you can use USB On-The-Go feature by plugging a pen drive in the phone. Next iPhone would come with 128 GB model so yes future phones will have bigger memory.

I dont trust PC HDD much either.. have an external HDD to store my huge library..Some times lazy to modify by library on the phone ..its my fault...

its easily available for 26k right now, most likely if u bargain with your local stores you can get some free stuff like memory card screen protector which may put it down to 25k's ....if u are very impatient you may like to go for it ..or wait for 1-2week and let it drop by 1k max...coz Samsung has recently launched Galaxy Advanced for 24k ..i dont think they may drop the price of S2 than 24k in the end but who knows when that time will come

The memory is 16GB, 2GB partitioned for apps and games. rest for OS and all.
Overall 10 GB for movies, music etc.

Keeping data in NTFS is safer than FAT system of memory cards.
USB on to go comes with Galaxy S II.
Well, SII will be discontinued in September like S1 last year and will not get Jelly update for sure. Whereas, HTC One S comes with ICS inbuilt will get Jelly bean update in future for sure.

Yes, like Galaxy S I didnt get ICS update (though it was compatible). So, I guess same Galaxy S II have almost no chance for Android 4.1 (Jelly bean). Some Official Words

Talking about HTC One S getting official update of Jellybean i want to ask you one thing ....you want that your phone should last longer in terms of hardware and software right?
Then can you depend on just 10gb of music,videos and just 2Gb for apps in future? ..i mean 2gb gets full if you use your phone well now a days ..it may be difficult in future

And about HTC ONE X - anytime its better than S2 but its for 9k more

...i too wanted to go for it but i'll prefer a good laptop with good specs and a phone for just 12-13k rather buying One X ...

Getting official updates is always pain in the a**. The battery drains like water and bundles of error to fix. HTC One S is good for hardware as well as software. I wish HTC launch 32 GB version soon. For me 2GB much for apps in android, though I don't do gaming much in phones, except Angry Birds :mrgreen:

. The phones is awesome in terms of using, even the booting time is just 5 second. Everything is lighting fast on that device.. total lag free.

One X costs around 32.5k from ngpay which is really a great price for that device.
Rather spending 26k for S2 I suggest you to shell few thousand bucks more and get One X which is a much better phone than S2.

I don't know about the future, but I'm very unlikely to buy a phone without a SD slot or non-removable battery. If you buy such things, you will only encourage manufacturers to make more such phones. Manufacturers should supply what customers want, and not vice versa. What you say suggests you believe in the reverse.

Don't know why there is no microSD slot in new Sony and HTC phones. For apple we can say they use some totally different format to save that is incapable in microSDs.
For non-removable battery HTC guy told me that for better battery backup technology HTC One X battery can not be removable, the gold pins emits waste of power something like that.

Also for the beautiful unibody design. But the battery can be replaceable in any HTC service center.

I had a look at One X before i bought s2 since price was not a big concern for me. But I was taken back by couple of reasons. \

Size
Battery life
Micro Sim (can use one as it is available now. But u cannot swap handsets)
No SD Card
Non removable battery (big concern as the store will charge a bomb replacing it)

..When and for how much did you buy the S2 ?

I bought from a local Planet M around 2 months back... for 28500. Unluckily price dropped after 2 days to 27500... might be even cheaper now...

Also if u are buying watch out for the model I9100. I had to wait for around 4 hours to get the right one.

Nope. When I bought ICS was not out. I changed my Locale to Nepal and got the upgrade. Now I believe it is being shipped with preloaded ICS

Price same as Black version... but its unlikely to get white model right now with ICS.. they are not shipping white that much...lucky if you got one.

I don't think there is big deal in buying Gingerbread and updating to ICS. Personally I wanted a black one and use Silicon cover to change colors

Well... again they are selling I9100G for same price as I9100 unfortunately ( ~26 k -27.5 k) depending on the store..but you can find it online for a better deal.

No I dont think there is any difference in Factory installed ICS and updated ICS. Its the same ROM.

and yes the price is always same for I9100 and I9100G.

Battery life of One X is pretty good.
For micro sim you can use a adapter if you want to insert in other handsets.
Already there is 32GB memory, do you still need more memory, did you forgot that even in iphones there is no memory card support.
Non removable battery is not issue that should be bothered.

Seriously, i didnt face much problem with non removable battery of iphone.

Ok here is my problem with non-removable battery.

I was using Samsung Omnia Pro for last 2 yrs. Last Nov there was some problem with the power slot and it was not detecting the charger. I sent it to the service center and they said the power slot is gone and they will change the whole motherboard.... cost 11000.

I bought an external charger and can charge the battery after taking it out... after 2 months I was able to get it rectified from a local store...

Even removable battery helps me in carrying an extra battery when I am out on vacation as sometime we stay in tents where we dont have electricity...

I know this is not the case with everyone but given an option, i can have the luxury...

Also, for me Iphone is not the benchmark as everyone is doing... If iphone dont have SD slot... then it dosent bothers me.

It was Apple who said, crazy people needs forward message and bluetooth capability... and then upgraded the set and said... here is some additional features.

Keep in mind if there was no iphone, there would be no big capacitance touchscreen phones without keypad, there would be no android smartphones, and hundreds of features that samsung like companies is copying. May be you are right.. but most of us (Indian Market) don't care who is copying who as long as the consumers are provided with better options with cheaper price...and most importantly freedom to use the device one owns.. Period .

If we forget about the price tag, iphones/ipads are really great, they are simplest designed gadgets and user more user friendly. In the way that a 5 year kid or 90 yr old man can use it. All these additional things like sharing, bluetooth are being added to survive in competition.

BTW England are the current champions in real cricket, test cricket.

haha ..unfortunately we cannot forget about the price tag especially in India ,where we are not used to MSP couple of year contracts yet and grab the hanset for like $99 or even cheaper...

Not to mention once I was a proud owner of the Ipod touch , and 30 GB ipod ,and a ipod mini ..all I got at once..

Not acceptable. I don't trust service centers. They may replace the battery and create some new problems or scratches or something. Besides would have to waste time and money to go there for such a simple thing.

And I don't buy this gold pins waste power theory. Where is the proof? HTC or dealers will give out any rubbish. Without evidence its valueless. And even if it does, I'd rather it wastes tiny bit of power for the convenience it provides. Even assuming its true, are phones with non-removable batteries giving more battery stamina for a given price? I don't think so mate!

Further, if battery is non user replaceable, you will not be able to install a battery from any 3rd party manufacturer which could be cheaper/better/higher capcacity.

Stop letting companies control the way you use your devices. You dictate what you want. Not the other way around. To make this happen, try and avoid such products. It will force them to change.

I checked HTC india website they mention it has same old scorpion processor of sensation but 1.7Ghz dual core overclocked processor with Adreno 220, made in taiwan. So, thats the reason they delayed for so much. HTC says they did it because of shortage.

I tried few stores on ebay..they say that it could be either 9100 or 9100G..however i want a 9100 only , not the G variant..even on flipkart..few people got 9100G instead of 9100..

Thanks m8..but the problem is this seller has sold many G versions too instead of original ones...i contacted few customers ..they confirmed it was 9100G. Moreover this seller is unresponsive..and i dont think ebay will cover any replacement or refund for such an issue..

If you can say with 100% assurity with valid logic that it will be 9100, i will buy it

Otherwise i am goin with moto Atrix 2, similar specs as s2..same chipset as 9100G but a lot cheaper...

Do comment about my atrix 2 decision lol..as this S2 problem is really bugging me...pay more and get hardware of inferior quality..

I will recommend to go and bargain in a local store and be confident before you buy. Flipkart is selling only G variant so not recommended.

I have emailed Flipkart about the version they are shipping.. and they said.. they have I9100 with Gingerbread as I9100G is discontinued!!

All local stores should be having only I9100 only...

Well.. Email Flipkart Customer Care to confirm and opt for COD.. .if they ship I9100G you can reject the shipping... BUT you dont get best price for I9100 on flipkart right now

Im going for Motorola atrix 2 now..cheaper..good performance..could go for galaxy nexus also..but no samsung india warranty..so dunno whether should buy nexus or not..I mean do these phones give any such frequent hardships?( i will be getting 1 year seller warranty though..)

Are you sure about the Atrix 2 ? I had decided to buy the Atrix 2 but too many people complained about the Customer Service and several bugs + less community support which i why i decided to skip it even though it has excellent specs and reviews were also good.

Better to increase your budget little more and get Galaxy S II I9100 for 25k. Please don't buy Atrix 2, you will regret it later.

There is no news of 32GB version yet. HTC One S is selling like hot cakes in other countries that's why they have shortage of krait processors.

The international version of HTC One S is the best among all phones but our Indian version is with a year old processing system that makes it comparable to Galaxy S2.

Galaxy S II is still a very good phone even compared to Sony Xperia S (Xperia P doesn't compare with SII really to be frank) and Htc One S. It also has a much larger developer support than either the Xperia S or Htc One S.

And overall neither the Xperia S nor the Htc One S (s3 version) is noticeably better than GSII.

And at 25-26k its AWESOME value !!. Don't worry about it being discontinued, it will continue to get huge developer support over @ XDA.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus (which is not launched in india) is having same chipset, processor, RAM and GPU like I9100G. It's better to get G version rather Atrix 2.

Atrix 2 has the same chipset and gpu as 9100G,just 200mhz lesser cpu clock..which might be equal to 9100G as i have read it is clocked at 1008mhz..
plus atrix quite cheaper,22k while SGS2=26k

the thing is i dont at all care about screen,camera etc.

Atrix 2 is not with ICS and no news of upgrading in india yet. S II is much much better in terms of benchmarks also galaxy nexus/G version. Performance wise atrix 2 is worse than HTC Sensation.
Go to maket and buy I9100 (non G version), its easily available in delhi for 26k if you can bargain.

I can't tell you particular shop. Try some good shop in gaffar market who can provide bill.

Don't get the G version. Go out and search for I9100 and the best deal you can get on it. As mentioned above, its clearly mentioned in the box and also the box for I9100 and I9100G differ.

GSA is poorly rated only because its overpriced , and it is buy a big margin. But SGSII will never come down 25k

25 K will be the max last price that S2 will go down to- that too during/on the verge of discontinuation..Online stores might try to do clearance on it at that time, may be a 1k less.. I beleive that will take 4 - 5 months atleast for that to happen...If you can wait... yea,.. it will be a best buy ..but if samsung releases new phones in the meanwhile in 22 -24k range ...Its hard for s2 to drop below this range ..

Have you faced problems with big fonts of S II as it has low resolution and lower PPI than other models in this segment?

nope...big fonts ...really not a big deal...by default it comes with 3 fonts...and you can download other fonts..if u like..

Well.. there is no option to select font size though.. Like I said you can download other small fonts if you like.. Haven't tried it yet.

Install a ROM which supports multi dpi,if you can not tolerate large icons and font.

guys ...any one facing disturbance...in the music player while selecting the 5.1 dolby sound..
..sporadically its playing cracky noise while selecting this 5.1 ..this happens on my s2 which came with ics..
and my friend had one with gingerbread which played songs smoothly on 5.1... but after upgrading to ics ..he is also facing the same issue..

but when u restart...its playing smooth...

any permanent resolution guys....or itwill be fixed through patch updates...

yep I also charge or octroi while I purchased Omnia w from them . But now U can try cod if they ask for extra money simply reject it.

I m planning to go for Samsung Galaxy S2 instead of HTC One S(S3 version)and Sony Xperia S.

Is it a good decision right now?

Against One S and Xperia S its not a good plan.And if you think of One S then its better to pick One X as the difference in price is not much but if you are think to buy around 27k then Xperia S is a much better option as it costs 27-28k
