Omnia W is very good handset...its lot less customisable then androids .. but just butter smooth and never lags.

Software and games r freely available...google maps and bing maps r fine...it locks the gps quickly coz of glasnos (russian satellite) ...software had to be downloaded from marketplace only, no other way out

For the price its just superb...looks great, superamoled screen with 800x400 (dont remember the exact value) is great ...720p and 1080p mp4 with h264 codec works smoothly with no lag

Bing Maps is not very accurate. All road names and addresses are messed up, especially here in Hyderabad... So, if you depend on Maps for traveling, you might prefer Google Maps which is really excellent. (available on Android phones natively)

As for apps, a lot of them are available for WP7 devices as well... You might miss a few if you already have an Android phone or an iPhone. But if you are upgrading to a smartphone from a feature phone for the first time, then you won't notice any problems. WP7 is smooth, good enough for regular use...

Instead of Moto Defy plus, you might want to consider Sony Neo V, if you choose the Android route... Its slightly better...

Cheers!

yes use gMaps

gMaps is not an official app. It does not have many of the features of the original Google Maps app...

Bing Maps is usable. Hopefully, it will become more accurate in the future...

Maybe you can choose the Lumia 710, which has Nokia Drive, which is slightly better... Gives you turn by turn navigation...

Dont buy any WP now. Wait for a few days. Because, the current phones wont be getting any future software updates. If you are okay with it, Buy samsung omnia w. It's a great phone.

Read about these two phones... There are dozens of reviews of these phones available, both in print and on youtube... Research and buy...

WP OS is the problem...no apps like iOS or Android. (major apps are there)
also current WP wont get next update (Apollo)

Go for Defy+ You will truly enjoy your phone...i current have both phones and dont find WP usable from end users point of view.

I think Suman is new to smartphones. WP7 is a better choice for newbies... Android has a bigger learning curve...

If going the Android route, there is one more new smartphone, already on ICS... The HTC One V... Excellent review of that phone... Very affordable @16k...

If you want a easy to use Smartphone go get wp7 phone.Options are Lumia 710 and Omnia W.
Lumia will allow you to use Nokia Directions which is a Delight for travellers.

If you are. app junky and just want yo load tons of Useful and Useless apps on your phone, Android Is the way to go.

Ignoring the fact that Current gen Wp phone wont get Future Updates You will be sufficised by Nokia 710.

Donno if Defy+ will get the next update too

@androidfan I think the opposite ...if OP is new to smartphone its better to get android....or else he will be more frustated by Zune software, No bluetooth transfer, no direct transfer of file from PC etc

Omnia W have better hardware then Defy+, better screen, lagfree

Keep in mind that the Defy Plus has a pathetic camera for both stills and videos. Comparatively Neo V has a much better cam but poor build quality.

Buy Omnia W or any other WP and forget about USSD (unless they address this issue thru future updates... which is a BIG if). Meanwhile you wont be able to activate plans and such.

And the screen of the Defy+ is also not so impressive

I tell you--Get a WP7 and Omnia can easily Smoke Lumia in the case of :-
1-Battery backup
2-GPS Accuracy(Omnia uses GLONASS)
3-Super amoled(Less Power Required)
4-Light and Metal Finished Back.

Os update ? omnia win here . I got three update since brought
I mean sure I will get wp8 in it. I don't think Microsoft leave 2nd generation lumia 900 in wp 7

Regarding apps availability android rules!!! Who care about future ?

there is 99% chance no current WP will get updated to apollo cause the system requirements doesn't match and looking at how strict M$ is about the system, i really doubt WP&.5 will get anything more than a feature pack kind of update. Maybe tango is last stop. What is fixes stays fixed.

Android. With WP you can't try rom based on new OS. With Android you can always try custom rom.
