What was he thinking?

"First of all I want to say something over here. I want to thank you back home Pakistan and where the Muslim lives all over the world."

This is what he said word for word because it's important to quote him correctly. The problem here isn't the syntax, it is the sentiment. I don't expect Shoaib Malik to be a politically correct intellectual, but it is reasonable to expect him to know the world of cricket that he inhabits.

It is a world where Muslims, Hindus and a Sikh currently play for England, where Buddhists, Muslims, Christians and a Hindu play for Sri Lanka, where Hashim Amla turns out for South Africa, where a Patel plays for New Zealand, where Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and Hindus play (and have always played) for India. Why would Shoaib think, then, that the Muslims of the world were collectively rooting for the Pakistan team or that they felt let down by its defeat? Did he stop to think of how Danish Kaneria, his Hindu team-mate, might feel hearing his Test skipper all but declare that the Pakistan team is a Muslim team that plays for the Muslims of the world? It is one thing to be publicly religious—Shahid Afridi thanked Allah and Matt Hayden and Shaun Pollock are proud, believing Christians—quite another to declare that your country's cricket eleven bats for international Islam.

he is supposedly from a muslim country and expects such words are horrent for his country.
on the other case,a statement like this makes fanaticals of islamic community(A world united by Islam and no other religion exists as per the teachings) feelings high and hence support too.

even my reaction on hearing that sentence was same! its just not appropriate for the captain of a team to make comments like these.

i was extremely proud when irfan pathan was named MoM. Because the pakistanis beleived that muslims would be a persecuted minority in India and hence wanted a seperate state. But India has proved that (except a tiny number of religious fanatics) this country is secular and everyone irrespective of religion has a fair chance of making it big.

And I have a dreadful feeling that the paki captain's comment was triggered because he views India as only a HINDU country. We have proved them wrong.:)

Thank god, that other noticed it too. I felt the same when he said "muslims all over the world". Is he playing for Pak or muslims?

Submitted it on Digg. This should be known. Digg it if you want to.

Irfan Pathans' MoM award was not essential to prove that India is secular.

BOLLYWOOD.

It's the Khan trio that is ruling the bollywood.

Why was he only apologising to muslims I think here are many hindus and sikhs in pakistan and all over the world who were supporting them. But again I think he was just trying to save his a&& cos he knew he will be executed(well almost) as soon as he and his boys reach their country not because they lost the final but because they lost the final against India.

Arre bhai indian it doesn't matter how many muslims were there in our team or how many big-wig muslims were there supporting Indian team we don't need it to prove our secularism and religious tolerance.
BTW I don't remember seeing any non-muslim player in pakistani team ever.

i didnt not mean to say that they awarded irfan MoM award to prove india is secular. i meant that he got a fair chance to represent the country (ie not discriminated against). and got the MoM due to his own skill/performance.

Shoaib Malik Seems To Be Very Communal And Racist, He Didn't Even Think Once About Non-muslims In Pakistan, This Shows What Pakistani Muslims Think Of Minorities. Thank God I Am In A Tolerant Country Like India, Where Muslims Have So Much Respect And Love, Inspite Of Us Being The Minoroty. Shoaib Malik Should Know We Were Not Praying For Him Or His Team. I Hope You Guys Know What He Did With An Innocent Indian Girl From Hyderabad. He Married Her In 2002 Secretly With Forged Papers, When He Was A Nobody, It Was In All The News Papers And On Leading News Channels, He Himself Admitted In A Post Match Ceremony In 2005 In Hyderabad; Pakistan Vs Hyderabad Xi That He Is Happy To Receive The Man Of The Match Award In His Wife's Hometown. Later When He Got Famous And Some Beautiful Girls He Dumped That Hyderabadi Girl As She Had Put On Weight, Reportedly. A Family Friend Of Mine Is A Hyderabadi Who Said The Girl Was Pregnant And Due To Her High Diabetese Aborted. This Outrageous Guy Who Is Thanking Muslims, In 2006 On Tv Denied Being Married Ever, Ruining That Girl's Life, As People Are Constantly Questionung Her How Come She Was Pregnant Without Marriage. This Guy Should Be Stripped In Public! After All This He Expects Prayers From Indians, He Must Be Kidding. We Won't Pray For Pakistan Even If This Had Not Happened.

Hey I Watched On Tv Myself I Was In India At That Time When Hyd Xi Played Pak He Openly Told Arunlal Who Was The Presenter. And I Heard On Some Paki Channel, Oh Ye Geo; Ek Din Geo Ke Saath Where He Mentioned He Is Married, Later Ironically He Denied Being Married In 2006 On The Same Channel. He Is Indeed Cheap And Untrustworthy. I Hope That Girl Comes Out Of The Shadows, Holds A Press Conference And Unveils Shoaib Malik's True Character. By The Way Bbc And Other Leading News Websites Can Be Searched, Just Type: Shoaib Malik, Hyderabad, Marriage Etc. I Am Sure You Might Get Some Info.
