My father wants to buy a Mobile in the range of around 13k.

Mobile experts please suggest the mobile to buy to buy in this range..

Details:

What we need: Camera, Music (plus FM is must), Good looks, Big Screen, Storage capacity, Bluetooth. The listed things are preferred in the same order.
Budget: Around 13k, Maximum 14k.
Model: Nokia or Sony Ericsson. But if it's really a kick-a$$ mobile from other brand, I might look into it.

Thanks a lot.

Guys, so much choice! Don't confuse me. Suggest some 1-2 mobiles only and tell why it's good. If possible, list out the pros and cons.

Thanks. :)

Newly released 6500 Slide is the best bet. Meets all your requirements.. You'll have to stretch your budget by 1K but it's worth it.

Love to do that. But 2 reasons is holding me:
1. My budget does not permit to buy Apple iPhone, which costs Rs 15,500.
2. I'm not buying for me. :p

You have 2 options:
1)k790i
2)k810i

k810i supports 3G whereas the k790i does not.
k810i has a secondary videocall camera.
k810i also has the most wierd keypads ever!
Whereas that of k790i is much more traditional and decent.

The current price of the k790i (as per the thread by krazyfrog) is around Rs. 11.2k

The current price of the k810i is Rs 13k with a 2GB M2 stick

The k790i comes with a 1GB M2 stick.
My friend has been using it since the past one month...
Absolutely no problems with it...
Excellent cam with an even better media player...
Interface is extremely user friendly.
Themes, games and apps are different for the k790i...meaning, if u try k750i themes./games/apps, they won't work that well...most of the times they wont occupy the entire screen.
The image capture time of the k790i is very less..Believe me, I've tried taking a snap of my ceiling fan (in ON i.e. running condition)in complete darkness and the phone could capture all the 3 blades of the fan accurately...
The best pic feature also adds a zing to the phone...
Imagine, u are taking a picture of a small baby...u never know when he'l give his best smile....so u keep the mode on best pic, try to make the baby laugh n start capturing..otherwise its kinda disappointing to take baby snaps ;)

The phone has overcome the drawbacks of previous SE models..
For eg:when u press the media player button with the head phones not connected, it will ask u whether to turn the media player on or not.In previous models, the media player used to either just start off directly or in case of some models like the k750i, it never used to start..

Message storing capacity can be an issue..Though I am not too sure about this..
Battery life has always been a problem for SE phones..

If u recharge your phone everyday, then it shouldn't really bother u..

Another thing that may bother you would be...when u connect ur phone to ur comp, the phone will reboot..
Now this can be very annoying at times... :(

Once you have got a SE phone, u need to shell out a few more bucks to get its accessories...
The first and the most important one being the scratch guard..
That will cost u somewhere around Rs. 300/-
Plz don't go for cheap scratch guards...
Then, u will also need to get a Leather pouch for your phone..
That will again be a little harsh on your pocket...

Believe me friend, the phone is really worth its price..

Moreover, u can also try searching on 'tweaking the k790i'
You can do many things once u tweak your phone,...
The loudness can be increased, the message storing capacity can be removed...the menus can be changed, etc.

I've heard the following things about both the phones. Plz correct me if I am wrong :

1)There is no major difference in software between the 2 phones
2)The k810i has 3G and a video call camera (both useless in India)
3)The keypad of k810i is not user friendly. If u txt msg (SMS) a lot, then the keypad can be a problem.
3)The earpiece speaker of the k810i is uncomfortable for hearing..
4)The k810 is lighter and smaller in size as compared to the k790i.
5)The camera lens slider protection of k810i is more compact than that of k790i.
6)The camera of k790i takes superior pictures than the k810i.
7)The body of the k810i is a fingerprint magnet. You really have to clean it every time u use it otherwise it looks a right mess. Whereas that is not the case with the k790i
8 ) The k790i comes with a 1GB M2 stick and k810i comes with a 2GB M2 stick(in Mumbai..this fact is confirmed)
9)Since the k810i comes with a 2GB M2 stick, it makes the phone slower than the k790i...(not too sure about this...donnow if it is valid only if u fill up the M2 stick upto the brim)

So, the choice is yours and yours alone!

I'd suggest Nokia N73.

It has an excellent 3.2 mpix camera with auto-focus, Carl Zeiss lens and led flash.

Music player with good sound quality, large format support (option to increase number of supported formats with 3rd party software) and extremely loud stereo speakers to enjoy the music without headphones (has 3D sound feature in headphones and loudspeakers).

Great looks, imo.

Fantastic 2.6", 262k colour TFT display, the largest you can get in that price range.

Expandable memory with cheap miniSD cards, bluetooth v2.0 with EDR plus A2DP.

The phone runs on S60 v3, which means it is a smartphone with lots of software, games and themes. Plus it can multitask (i.e. you can run multiple app simultaneously). The phone also has an excellent web browser, which probably loses only to the Safari in iPhone. And all this under 13k (obviously you have to spend some to get a memory card, the phone only comes with a 128mb one).

Hmm... so N 73 or k790i seems to be a good options from what you guys tell.

N 73 is 12.7k and k970i is 11.2k (source: krazy's sticky). He won't mind symbian things, but Battery, screen size matter. I guess he'll go for Nokia only.

Ok, I'll tell me to buy N 73 or k790i which ever he likes.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions.

If display size matters then he'll surely choose N73 over K790i because of the latter's puny display (2.0") compared to N73's (2.4") even though both have similar resolution. Battery life is comparable.

Forgot to add, if the phone is going to be used for messaging a lot, then N73 will be a pain because its keypad is very cramped and bad for frequent use.

I'd recommend these three ones. you can refer to their reviews.

6500 Slide for its Good Cam and overall performance including a Loud loudspeaker, TV-out and its Stylish Stainless steel design.and yea, it records video in VGA mode.
K810i for its Excellent Cam with Xenon Flash and its user interface.
5610 for its Music/FM Radio Slider, Audio Quality, VGA video.

@pushkar
You do get used to it after a few weeks and then it is not difficult at all.

And ashwin...upgrade to the latest firmware if you buy N73 if it doesnt come pre-loaded with one...
K790i is a strong competitor and go through both of their strengths and weaknesses before buying one.

the.kaushik -
A windows mobile phone for 13k! That's good. I've used Windows Mobile and I don't like it unless you want to email/browse on the go.

Thanks for the suggestion. Dont bother about Symbian, EDGE and other small things like Mobile Browser. I'll run up the list and talk to him tomorrow. :)

First of all, this is the exact thread I was thinking to start for a friend of mine who has similar budget to look out for. So, thanks for the help! :D

Without a doubt go for N73! It's the best one out there within your budget (if not less!). It's loaded with features such as impressive picture quality, crystal clear speakers, and obviously the conveniently customizable Symbian OS (even though dad doesn't care about it, you can get loadsa apps for him..turn it into a sleek business solution for him...or might as well get him into gaming..never too late!..whtsay!?? ;) )
Here's a good camera review comparing it to a few others mentioned in this thread:

Check it out and do get your dad to post a review when you get one! ;)
Cheers!
