This thread is for readers of Digit to give us suggestions of what you would like to read more about in Digit, or what you think should change, both in the magazine as well as the discs.

Any suggestions are welcome, but please understand that we're not going to be implementing all of them—at least not the ridiculous ones!

No bashing or comparisons to other mags please! And no talking about particular issues, this is just a general suggestion box about sections you feel should be added or removed and why. Remember, the WHY is very important for us and others to understand the logic behind your suggestions.

Members and Team Digit are free to agree or disagree with you here, so don't start flame wars... opinions not arguements please!

Please try to add more articles on internet and try to work in this field.
Start a whole new sections in which you review websites.
The present one is only 3 Small Boxes with some details.
Make it 10! And a whole page on it!

The software that are given are mostly old version.Plz try to give the latest version of the softwares. Then the DIGIT PDF's that are given are not of the recent past.We want the previous 12 months PDF in every issue.

Include 1 REVIEW from this forum in every DIGIT edition. The review can be either of ne software or mobile or nething! We can also include TUTORIALS.

It'll attract more readers coz all computer users loves to get information and new tips-n-tricks. It'll also increase forum members!

Well! you see, if you can add the followings sections it would be very nice for the mag readers and for your circulation increase.

SECTIONS to be added:

1. INTERVIEW SECTION

What will be in this section or say what i would like you to put in this section is, you ought to interview someone from the TECH world and not just some filmstar and all who just uses a one or more tech products.

So, basically, you would be interviews some one like for example the IT Minister, and ask him question on the present day Scenario and his vision to see India in the next 5 to 10 years.

You can also interviews people like Infosys chairman, etc, IT ministers and tech related people who visit India.

Well! How about an interview with Bill Gates ?

2. READERS CONTRIBUTION :

Well! This section would be as simple as its name, yes ask the READERs to write article on tech, and publish it if it fits with the profile of the mag. Would be nice.

3. Put some special SECTIONS towards OFFICE SERVERS , tip -N -tricks, installation bugs, BEST way to run this servers and software / hardware which runs them, put everything about SERVERS in here.

This is a much needed SECTION, since, both desktop and OFFICE CEOs/CTOs/CIOs/MDs etc will directly look into it and hopefully, your mag will reach to different section of people who are tech, tech, tech... OFFICE Managers, Adminstrators, etc.

4. And yes put some CARTOON SECTION as well, put some fun cartoon of bill gates and IT ministers and the like, but make stories out of it like NDTV does (This is not a comparision, put your own ideas and imagination)

i would like to suggest u that pls give us dvd and cd in dvd box that paper cover is tacky thing. I am ready to pay extra money for that, do something.

Digit Magazine or CD doesnt contain any programming code eg. some good VB or ASP code, by which small or newbie programmers can benefit. I would suggest u includde some sample or working programming code so that new programmers can try some new things.
I would also suggest to add a column in CD version for code supplied for digit users. There are somany users who r interested in sending their codes, so that others can see their code also they can be benefitted by others code/ideas.

Hope u will think on this and do some help for small programmers like us.

Please Raaabo can u give the detailed price list of all the Intel and AMD processors. We get the prices of other stuff from your reviews but not so in case of processors.

There is no doubt that Digit is one of the best tech magazine, and forum is also very good.

One regular section in magazine for programming tutorials like Visual Basic, VC++ etc will be
cherry on cake. And please include some source code in CD/DVD regularly, readers also can
contribute for the same.

No one can satisfy expactations of all the readers, but Digit CD/DVD contents is always better than other.

Please give some serious thoughts to these suggestions that I am going to give you.

1. You guys need to improve the quality of the articles you carry on your magazine. Rather than technical news give technical 'how-it-works', 'what-is-it' type of articles.

2. Please do away with sections like "One silly question", "Genders Benders" etc. They are totally useless. From where do you get hold of these boys and gals? From the streets?

Also remove these:
#Old way, Tech way....useless section.
#30 days with.... another useless one. Why do we need to know someone's personal diary. Topics which are not related to technology should not be there in the mag.

3. Provide workshop articles. Both hardware and software. I would like to see software workshop of atleast one s/w every month, particularly the s/w carried on the CD/DVD of that issue.

4. Provide more software reviews.

5. Please hire a different cartoonist. The cartoons by Harsho Mohan Chattoraj are really ugly. Instead of carttons why dont you give some artistic drawings. Computer graphics will do but not cartoons please.

I disagree with blackpearl at some points. What I feel is the sections such as One Silly
Question , Gender Bender , Old Way Tech Way , 30 Days With... , are somewhat
important , though not essential, because we read them after reading a tech-heavy
article to ease the pressure on our BRAIN-RAM. Though the section Gender Bender can have more difficult challenges than the present ones.

Well , this is my personal opinion,to keep the sections. this should not arise
any conflict with blackpearl

I would like to see articles on career in IT and ITES field , as I would help the largest segment of DIGIT readers , who are technical students. As requested above you can reduce ADs , and instead give sponsered articles on higher studies in technology field.
Thats all.

I am not trying yo be geeky, nor am I showing that I'm an amateur, but I'd like to know a lot more about hardware, overclocking, how they cause burnouts and all that stuff. Inclusion of more Tips and Tricks than usual would be damn good !

hi digit team can add some more extras stuff like c/c++. Digit will not only get some more readers but can also enter in to the new market.

Maybe, if it's possible, making menus for DVDs ? As in the menus that come first in certain DVDs which have more than one movie, where you get to select which movie you wanna watch ? Those tuts would be deadly !

I strongly agree.
U could also give a complete archive of all the previous Digit magazine issues along with a search function like u once gave in u'r anniverary issue in 2004.

Now for suggestions .. Make that FastTrack bimonthly or tri .. But give us 2 Dvds .. I can afford 150 Rs too

.. But give updated contents in Dvd yaar ..

Try making two different versions .. Two Cd version and two dvd version .. Two cd version can be cheaper .. and it will be attractive for those who dnt have Dvd drive (I dont know many though

) ..

And yeah .. Make it more interactive .. Increase Reader's contribution section .. The forum gets too little coverage in the mag . .. increase that ...

And yeah .. Change the DVD / CD interface .. I hate Flash ... You can create a menu for users to select between HTML and Flash interface .. But do that ..

try and stay on top of autopatcher updates

by general rule he updates it every second week of the month .. so it might be wise to check then ...

autopatcher updates are very handy .. atleast for me ....
and try to keep it on both cd or dvd .. or only on cd .. my offcie dun have dvd drive

I Won't Say:-
1. Stop the ads! Di9it has to survive and pay it's employees, I wudn't want my fav mag go extinct.
2. Give us the very latest autopatcher updates. I dunt care. They are of no use to me.
3. Give equal importance to Windows and Linux. Most Di9it readers use Windoes and it is natural they they give importance to it.
4. Give a distro a month. Useless.

I Would Rather say:-
1. Give us just 200 Mb of good quality FOSS Softies each month along with any kernel security patches if you desire.
2. Publish good articles either in tips n tricks or as seperate section for making a newbie comfortable with linux.
3. Give two distro's a year. (June and Dec) Seriously yaar, Two major ones. (Your liking BSD and/or Linux)
4. Give good account on Open Source programming languages, For Example you could start with python tutorials. Python is a very easy as well as a powerfull programming language that is easy to learn and implement. It is usually recommended as a first programming language.
5. Start a section to fight piracy to educate people to buy proprietary softwares or use FOSS softies.
6. PLZ PLZ for god sake don't use the terms 'Hacker' or 'Hacking' when you mean 'cracking'. It doesn't do justice to the hackers community.
7. Keep up the good work.

2.more articles about computer and its applications in different fields.
3.and pls dedicate a page or two(the more the better) on sound editing and dj softwares.

1. Can u PLEASE give a review of AOE 3?
2. Provide more "Do-it-Yourself" sort of articles in the mag
3. Carry a 'Fast Track' on Consoles please
4. Do away with Gender Benders. It STINKS
5. Do away with erotic photos and articles in Tabloid Tech
6. Try to provide some more software reviews
7. Do away with celeb geeks. It's completely useless.

Only One Suggestion:
Will Digit Change the title of Open Source Section to Open Source/Linux.
this is for the sake of n00bs who dont know what is Open Source and Linux is a Open Source OS.
Also give a short explanation what is Open Source /Linux in forum.

1. OpenOffice needs to be given more and regular converage. We know 90% of the people use pirated MS Office even for writing letters that can be written in notepad! :roll: Let Digit use its reach and influence on people to reduce piracy and promote free software

2. Some better products for Patron points! As of now only old unused stock of things is offerred in return of points!

3. Please get rid of that irritating flash interface of CD/DVDs! Why can't you give an HTML format? HTML and Javascript has been used since so long for creating some wonderful interfaces! You don't need to bother about SEO here, use frames :lol:

if you need to.

4. A section of programming/development (including Javascript, PHP, ASP, etc.) will be wonderful. Nimish is on the right track. Go for it!

5. Get rid of useless stuff like Gender Blender, One silly (admittedly!!) question, old way - tech way, etc. Its all non-sense! Whoever needs a break from other tech-heavy :roll: articles can keep Digit aside and do something else for some time.

@tuxfan: Have you bid FOSS goodbye?? Why can't we (i) see you in Open Source section these days? Very rarely i see you even post!

@ teamdigit guys: Many i know in this forum are requesting either a Fast Track book or a seperate section in the mag for FOSS/Linux. You can also add some articles on making profits with FOSS softwares so that people don't think that we cant make money if we choose a career based on FOSS.

Hey Admin, heres a quick suggestion. Why dont you switch to vBulletin/IPB for digit forum. They're are more customiseable softwares as far as forums are concerned. Also, their are far too many mods available for IPB.

Include a section on C/C++, JAVA programming to help students like me.

My only suggestion is, pls change the default forum skin to "Subsilver" coz the current skin "DAJ Glass" has bug of the Login box so its not good to hv it as default!

How about going back to the html format for CD content descriptions instead of flash presentations or atleast provide a txt file describing the CD content as it was some 3-4 years back? I find html more customizable. Since i have a mild eye problem I need this. Thanks for listening.

Free for all

In this month's issue, the column "Free for all" was a great one which I found. Please try to make this a regular column (if not present, atleast hereafter) for not only on Business heading, but also for many other topics like Media, Music, Readers, Free printers for making pdf copies (eg. PrimoPDF), etc. This although proved useful by making them available in this month's DVD, what about those who doesn't have a DVD drive? Hence please provide a URL for members in this forum and DIGIT readers of course, so that one could download themselves!

there was news tht digit would be movin tech bulletin wats goin on tht front

i seriously believe tht there should be a feature where we get to disable all avatars from loading into the page
coz DATA transfer means a lot on these new broadband connections

and i am also in favour of restoring the signatures , i.e. text only stuff

and why dont u folks give RSS links to the forum,

I am not a professional. But I want certain things to be done in Digit.
One is that the cover designs of the CD and DVD are not good. In the previous issues i.e. of Oct, Nov and Dec were good enough but in the recent issues the designs are not good.
Secondly i agree with raval_manoj that there sould be a section of programming tutorials.
There is no doubt that this is India's No.1 magazine.

IPB and vB Costs a lot! Why don't you graciously buy Digit the license for them?

P.S The dollar conversion rate is quite high!

Instead of asking for less ads, ask for more article pages
Ads give them revenue and keeps the magazine going

One full page of ads cost over Rs 100000/-

Suggestions:

Start a forum like graveyard where we can see the old posts and topics. This will help in easing the length and mess of the main pages too.

Give as much ebooks in the DVD/CD possible.

give the latest versions of commonly used apps, the versions in the DVD/CD are mostly 2-3 months old.

Include fast track bimonthly, if not possible monthly.

And most important of them all, please include at least last three issues of the magazine in the CD each month, so as to help the readers who have missed them.

Here's an idea

How about running a feature on some of the more public sites on the internet -- where the average joe can join in. I'm talking sites like :

*www.digg.com

Stuff like that. del.icio.us is a really great idea which more people should get to know, and digg is another good concept.

I think you should include a video of the testing process and the various products you review.It would be much nicer seeing the process in action .

or you could give a video tutorial of installing a hardware component or software.

I also suggest that the number of ads come down.They are running into pages and pages.

I think that you shud include software reviews more frequently and make your standalone hardware reviews more comprehensive and yeah with all these requests pouring in, please don't increase the price.

maybe you should include a thread where people can vote for their topic of fast track.

Hi I'am Kaustav Acharya a student of class XI.I liked the old digit.Digit's new avatar is not that attractive.Now instead of being a 'special' geek magazine it has been reduced to a just another mass 'tech' magazine.

It now contains more offtrack articles, rather than core tech articles,product reviews and hands on workshop.

I don't understand why there are more articles on business than on modding?More articles on what people think of technology than what drives that technology? More articles on wheres and whens than on how and what ?? :-?

Guys this is a tech magazine for 'geeks'.Sure ! its our technology navigator but it doesnt have to be so down to earth .Guys put more attitude in the articles. Include short but informative articles.Please increase the number of articles.!!!!!please!!!!!!!

Now the articles are bigger and fewer than before.They are also hollow and confusing ,requiring more clarification.Well we ARE geeks but we are not rocket scientists!

I loved the hardware workshops digit published before.

I used to love the exotic hardwares in droolmaal.

I used to loved the hardware and software reviews.

Now most of these are either missing or are negligible in quantity and quality. Digit's present format of magazine is uninspiring.The colours are meek are silent.

I have no complaints about the interactive contents.These can be changed any time.But its the magazine which attracts us readers.The fast track's great.I also have no problem with the PAPER quality but the QUALITY of the THE ARICLES needs a lot of improvement.

Please do away with gender benders, techway-oldway,tech tabloid,one silly question and other useless stuff.

Kindly ponder over my thoughts that i have expressed.I've joined the forum recently.But whenever i view the feedback section ,its full of complaints.Why are you guys giving any scope to complaint??

My final advice:: PLEASE REVERT BACK TO WHAT DIGIT WAS LIKE IN 2002-2004!!!!

Actually this is a Demand post but I thought it better to post it in the suggestion section. This is because Digit often fails to give virus defination updates of Anti Virus softwares and I see no point of repeating this demand every month. The virus definations should be included in each and every DVDs of Digit, each month. Why should we keep on requesting for such an important file?

Please give virus defination files of the important antivirus s/w every month. Make sure that its the first thing that goes into the CD/DVD. Other s/w can wait.

My suggestion list would be this:

1) Include more and more Developer Tools and Multimedia Tools

2) Start a new section in the CD / DVD and name it "UPDATES" and include virus definitions of all the major AV companies, Updates for the Firewalls, Definitions for Anti-Spywares and many such softwares

3) Provide latest updates for SW that are updated often such as Dreamweaver, M$ Windows (you can move the Autopatcher here), Flash, Norton Systemworks , and other such S/W !

Digit Software Archieve

When I need any software I have to search every cd/dvds. So I need a complete database and a powerful search engine. Before I send my ideas to Digit I found "Digit Software Archive". I installed it and start searching. But I found the stuffs for January and February 2006. What about the contents of the cd/dvds of the preveous years. When I make any sily mistake in the key words I found it that the search engine does not recognise it. Very poor seach engine. I hope it should be as powerful as Google.
Well, as it is in the bata testing verson it is manageble. You should develope it. Whre is the second verson? It should be in the March2006 cd. I want to make an active participation in the developement of it, but I need a certificate and some gifts if you plese with my support.

Read some of the old CHIP issues [ the name of your magazine ages ago ]. There was something special about CHIP that is missing in Digit.

PS - I am reffering to CHIP - the magazine DIGIT was called before and not the CHIP-INDIA that's in the stands these days ...

The one thing i like about them is their reviews of the products and other tech stuff!
I know you guys do a hell of the electronic items...but i think digit lacks behind in software reviews...
a primary function of a tech magazine is to guide users about new softwares and review some of the important categories like..
1.Backup
2.Security suites
3.email clients and junk control..
4.online privacy
5.and stuff which makes life better like firefox,download manager,rss clients...etc..
I am also impressed with your gaming review section....it was good last time in march edition....
i would encourage you to see these magazines which i mentioned and find technical stuff which u experts can see....

Need monthly Antivirus updates

Hi,
I totally agree with blackpearl regarding the monthly antivirus updates.

Please include monthly antivirus updates like McAfee/Norton etc. in the DVDs. I once read it in Digit magazine that the whole point of including softwares/updates in CDs was to reduce downloading burden on readers. So please include the antivirus updates regularly so that we don't have to download from the net.

x86_64 area is missing

16bit is gone, 32bit is leaving, since last 6 months Intel as well AMD are dumping 64 bit processors like there is tomorrow. M$ as well as Linux gurus are sitting leazzily with their x86_64 versions of os. I think being a prominant IT magazine and a trusted guide for me and other active readers, you should help us to test & taste of 64 bit arena.

Can begin your patron-ship in this segment by giving hot-served Fedora Core 5 x86_64 version in coming months DVD. I remember my own confusion/dilema when shifted from 16 bit to 32 bit. But finally resulted into better present. I hope whole reader community will support me.

The first and foremost thing Digit needs to do is to get a faster server...

My suggestion is to remove that cardboard from the digit packet. It makes the package more bulkier and I presume it adds printing cost, material cost and also postage/transportation costs. So, if that cardboard thing is removed, I think, it will be much convenient to us (I am a news stand reader) and also will help you to reduce costs. In my opinion just a Magazine sized plastic cover is enough with room fro DVD and fast track!!!...please reply

My suggestion is to remove that cardboard from the digit packet. It makes the package more bulkier and I presume it adds printing cost, material cost and also postage/transportation costs. So, if that cardboard thing is removed, I think, it will be much convenient to us (I am a news stand reader) and also will help you to reduce costs. In my opinion just a Magazine sized plastic cover is enough with room fro DVD and fast track!!!...please reply

Well, I agree completely with u guys too.
What I also suggest is that they should give the magazine in Seal-King type of plastic cover.
The current plastic cover they give is very sensitive & once ripped cannot be used again.
Currently what I do is, buy the Seal King covers from market & store the magazine in it.

plz come-out with a magazine only edition....the cd contents are not great enough to shell out rs:125 every month for it...
instead come out with a rs:40 or whatever "magazine" only edition,plz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suggestion for the forum
Add search box on main page and each forum page with simple options as "search only this forum"/"search all forums" and/or "search all words"/"search any word"/"search exact phrase"... This will be kind of like quick search boxes...

Suggestion for the CDs
Adding Autopatcher every month will be useful... I understand that having 250 MB of the space used up for the same purpose maybe difficult... What if you carry the full version every 3 or 4 months and the update version in the other months? Also, it will be better to be on the CD instead of DVD because some people may not have DVD drives (there isnt one at my office, though I have one on my laptop)...
Promoting free software so that people become more aware of alternatives to piracy - on a rotation basis, every month have one section (say Multimedia or Internet) devoted to only freeware...
Color coding software names on the CD cover to identify freeware/shareware/adware/demos...
Sometimes (very rarely though), when I install a software mentioned as freeware on your CD, I find it comes with spyware... (I detect this after installation when they try to access the network and are caught by the firewall)... Some extra care may be taken while testing software as freeware or spyware...
Some of the smaller software may be provided as links that can be used for downloading...

Suggestions for the Magazine:
A small space for Programmers - rotate languages on a monthly basis, provide something for the novice and something for the advanced user...
A more detailed A-List on a regular basis (maybe once in 3 months or so)... Provide best performance, best value for high-range/mid-range and lower-end varieties of products...

Sure, I have BBand and I can download overnight anything I want since I have unlimited night time browsing... But thats not the case for more than half the readers... Many use Dialup and some may not even have internet connection...

Of course, you could have two different editions - one with CD/DVD and one without... But somehow I just dont see it as a good marketing strategy... Those with broadband connections can always get articles on the net too... I dont think the additional subscribers to mag-only will provide extra profit... I dont mind if they give auto-patcher every month but that 250 MB version must be given like, once in 2 months. there is a light version of some <10MB w/ only patches availabe too! I would recommend giving that as it saves a lot of space

REGARDING PACKING OF CD/DVD:-every month digit supplies cd/dvd in a combo box of plastic.when i take out them from the box frequently.The cd/dvd develop very small cracks & it becomes really unsafe to run them in drive because of risk of breaking.it had happened with me 2 times.pls do something to this matter

What has happened to the forum? I was very happy to find that Digit has finally shifted to vBulletin. But now the forum has become incredibly slow. Pages which took 5 seconds to load earlier now take in access of 30 seconds. Do something about it team digit. Better move to faster server.

Main thing, the forum is for discussions..not for our pleasure or entertainment..so if we remove all images from it and make it simple like google's gmail or etc sites...just think..isn;t it good?

just use AJAX+HTML+PHP without any image...great speed of response can be get...

If user wants show some image then he can put the link to image...no need to post the image in the forum...as i thnk...

I have been thinking about this for months but always forget to say it.
When u give s/w for Linux please include a text file with a description of the s/ws so that it can be opened from linux. You provide these in the flash file which cant be opened from Linux, making it difficult to make out which s/w did what. I hope you solve this problem from the next issue.

Add more Gaming stuff please include ominshu demo and Residental evil4 and Devil may when realesed..

the may edition is a very good one, just one request though , like you guys put the article on carbon nanotubes being the future of chips , can you like put "an article" in every issue of digit on topics dealing with electronics and chip design ,me myself being an electronics student would defintely love that...

Seriously man, the forum does look good now after changing the skin.

Change the new titles to the old(that were there on phpbb) ones.

I m a bit skeptical of the results (till now) of this month's Digit poll which asks "What is the actual Broadband speeed you get?". The result shows 60% of the people voted for 'above 64 KBps', but I doubt whether so many people has access to speeds above 512kbps. Most people confuse between KBps and kbps. I think it will be better if the units are changed to 'kbps' from 'KBps' to clear any confusion that may arise.

Didnt Recd the June 2006 Issue Yet !!!

Its my utter displeasure to say that delivery service of DIGIT is going from bad to worse to TRASH as each month passes by. Its 15th June and i still havent recd the DIGIT Copy ! I wrote a mail to them on 13th abt this and they told me that they have dispatched the copy. Its 15th evening and no news of mag yet. There was a time when digit used to reach my home on last day of each month and now its already half of the month. They used to send us mail also abt the dispatch of mags but now they dont do it. Moreover i believe that they hv changed the courier and thats why i keep getting the mag late.

Do you guys get the mag on time or not ???

I can shamelessly say now that i am one of the most disatisfied customers of DIGIT and vows not to renew my subscription.

I miss the "Unanswered threads" option in PHPBB. Anyways here is a mod/hack for vB (official...)

ok digit mag may be one of the oldset tech mags in India and it may be the most well known.
but i think chip mag is much better as it is better priced (100 bucks)
and also its one year subscription is jus 960 bucks. for 1200 bucks u get a 25 in one card reader too (wid 1 year subscription). ok i know digit gives u 15 issues for a 1 yr subscription but still chip is better priced. there r similar offers wid 2 yr and three yr subscriptions.

the main magazine contents in digit and chip are similar and both are equally gud.

however chip doesnt have soethin equal to Fasttrack which i think is a gr8 addon to digit. cheers 2 da digit team fr tht.

But chip does come wid one DVD and 2 CD's .
again similar contenet on both but CHIP gives more.

Anyway.
Lets hope that Digit improves and truly earns the no 1 SPOT

has anyone ever realised how digit is gonna pay their employees if they get money only from the magazine sales(which will be only enough for about the printing costs). Hence they HAVE TO put ads like that in order to make money and keep paying their staff... So, next time whatever be the thing, please never complain about the presence of ads. Of course, u may say that some ads are obtrusive, but remember, those ads are worth a little more than those pages filled entirely with ads, as these ads (within text) are more likely to be looked than others...
If u really feel that digit should not advertise in their magz, then Webmasters, please stop ads on ur sites which get u earn money from... other readers, please do not watch TV channels which show ads... (Speaking of the fact that Pepsi TV - a 24 hours ad channel is going to be launched!!!)
please stop complaining about ads, and give positive criticism AKA feedback...

How many times have we actually appreciated their efforts than just bragging?

please dont say there's only that much content to go (coz digit ppl sometimes keep saying "there's only so much space". I think all those who buy SKOAR! buy Digit too. so plz luk forward to give unique games. Can't wait for a whole month.

I'd like to suggest that the last date of contest, like caption etc., to be increased as we the subscribers used to get our copies around 15 of every month. complaining to digitwallas and courierwallas is of no use. Just a suggestion:
Digit should start java/flash based chat rooms for forum users.
Not different rooms. Just 1 place.. where ppl can interact with other forum members without posting/messaging the members and waiting for their messages/post.

I personally think, it would be a good idea as guest users can join the chat room without registering as GuestXXXX nicknames and ask questions and get reply to it right away if any forum members are online.

Isn't it a good idea ??

@princeheart: pretty neat idea. But I feel that allowing guests to chat would be a bad Idea. Then everybody will come for their solutions and will flee away once they are done.

Well... maybe the free-user chat feature was a bit extra. But it surely can help with registered members. And it would surely stop silly thank you posts and 1 line questions for which members are forced to start a new thread for.

And moreover i have seen many users registered here to ask 1 question, even before searching the forum for their answers. I think an online chat place would stop all that.

Well.. its a forum... its same like a chat place. Though i dunno if the online chat is started - the forum will not be active anymore ?? That's the topic the admin/s have to decide on. Orelse with this running pace of life, no one got much time to wait for their answers. As for me, im sick with flu atm and home 24/7, so im online here pretty much all the time

I have a few suggestions. i have been summing them up in my mind for some time to present them collectively.

It is spilled here:

MAJOR:
1. Add a new listing titled "Talent List" next to the "member list". users can specify there talents and choose them form a detailed list(containing of major catagories and minor ones in them). like "Linux->X.org", "Moddinng->LEDs", "Electronics->general", "Internet->PHP", "Programming->C#" and so on... People can select their 'talents' fromthe User CP. ALso the users can create new catogories/sub catagoties. To make it less crowded only display the catagory when a specific no of people have requested it, keep others on the backburner and show them only when a user specifically can find a suitable one while posting), this will provide automatic refinement". Now when a person posts he/she has options to select the problems catagory. This will trigger a flag, marked when the user logs in, just where u display "last logged in....." so if he wants to he can click there and see what threads/posts have requested his expertise.

2. Create a forum(a project management tool) where people can specifically discuss/develop their projects/ideas of thigs like Software, website devel, Modding, Publishing... etc. Here the Thread starter should have the same rights as mods/admins over his thread(thy can remove modify/delete other peoples posts and hide/unhide their stuff, add specific viewers only for specific parts etc). Remove/increase the photosize/attachment size and other small limitations from there.

3. Make a searchable "Product Showcase/Catalog". Here all kinds of products(software hardware ot anything) can be added by users with all the info abt it like developer,website,resoures,related thread in digit forum, likely price..etc. And it has ratings and subproducts. Like for eg a 'shelf' for The best PC under 40K. Now all uses can add procucts by name to it and rate it. so whatever is most rated will be displayed. so if people want to buy a pc in 40k they can just have a look there and get all info(also things like second best) This can have a huge portential obe enough people put in enought products and their views abt them.
Ask the digit team to add all products the rate/test to it too.

MINOR:
1. Put in some check so then when a user presses "backspace" in a thread it shows a pop up if the quick reply bos has some text in it. i have may times lost typed text by accidentially pressing backspace when the focus was on the webpage insted of the textbox.

2. Do something with the rep system to avoide backfiring. at present people can just give -ve rep to a person if he gives on to them. what is the point of that?

3. Add a print/save thread tool.which saves/prints in a simpler format. also add a download archive tool if a person want to.

4. Add a picture gallery and a video feed of the digit team at work. we digitians would love that. Also if some products(only the majour ones) can be tested online while we people watch ask questions. add a ticker to the forum to tell us abt the event.

Major 2> yes i guess u can call it a wiki. but what i wanted that here in the forum so that if there are some interesting projects then they(or their progress) can be published in the MAG. according to me such things makes the mag more liverly. It is good that we get info abt all the stuff those major companies are doin' but i think people get more interested in real people and their real work, as it is closer to their own dreams.

I do not want to interrupt, but please consider my suggestion regarding the forum. As many of us have a GMail account, you would consider adding a "Contact via Google Talk" icon in our profile section in our posts.

Now one for the Mag, I see there has been quite funny contents in Digit, I would like to suggest to include a small Comic Strip regarding some tech jokes and some events occuring at your side (something like a comic digit diary). Also, its been a while since you have carried satisfactorily long Software reviews. Last months(July) review of...er..you know what, was good. I Expect to see more such reviews(not exactly the same products ;-)

) in future reviews. Also including a poster of games is not a bad idea after all.

Guys in order to boost up your sales and marketing audience, you incorporate such boring and so-called '' tech beyond work" articles.

Guys, and by the way, in the past 12 months, you've not carried oout a proccessor shoot-out, instead, you carried out perhaps 3 mfds/printers shootouts. Just 1 graphic cards shootout !!!

You guys are starting to stray away from computing in particular and cover up other areas of tech. Guys, many people out there consider you a computer mag.

There's so much in the field of computers alone that you could write several articles and won't run outt of them.

There are many who play games, so decreasing GAMEs is nt a valid option.

hi i would like to bring to your notice that the link to digit forums -which is displayed when a digitpatron user logs-into his/her account- doesn't work i.e., even the forum's homepage does not open and the user is redirected to the site's homepage giving up some error saying the requested page was not found.

I would like to see the mags soft copy in the CD/DVD every month.

I am tryin to develop a s/w that would help search the file(s) for certain keywords or phrases. I feel this is necessary because, I have a coolection of around 5yrs of Digit Hard Copy and its really a task when I have to search for a topic which "I remember reading in 'one of the digit issues' !!!"

You have done a Good thing by providing cut-like pages for the T&T etc..
But, wot I would like is an automated FAST search to the required content and infact comparisions between the related articles amongst the Digit issue itself.

What say friends? Doesn't it sounds compelling!!!

Digit always claiming that they are first to offer two CD's, first to offer DVD in each issue regularly, first to offer free fasttrack book with each issue.

But, yes but you have missed the bus for regularly providing Dual layer DVD with every issue.

You digit guys u should give more hardware and software related articles rather than some lame ass articles about how some guy has created a website, its a damn waste of space and paper, u should also give some decent softwares, if there r no decent game demos then simply give their videos, bcoz the lame ass demos that u guys provide out of deperation are simply outrageous.

Its good that you guys have given Linux a permanent place on the media.

Suggestion:
Though there is a README file in most of the archive installations provided, I'd suggest you write a simple instruction for installation and usage as .txt files and place em along with the archives, cause sometimes the default README tends to be geeky and people fail to understand to even install. And if there is no README, I feel giving it would have been a waste of space...

So can't we have a solution like if we want to update the archive, we just pop in the CD and/or DVD and the Digit Archive extract the info from the CD/DVD itself. This way we won't have to go online for archive update and people without net connection also will have updated archive.

Your suggestion about the archive is pretty neat...will definitely look into that.

Suggestion regarding the digit patron

I am a regular reader of digit. This is a very good way of reducing digit piracy. But, Me, being a NEPALESE, I can't enter the country name as Nepal and No any STATES. IS IT THAT NO FOREIGNERS CAN TAKE PART IN THE PATRON???

Please do not give any thought to this that when u guys used to publish CHIP way back in 1998-1999 the mag used to be very fatty. With the passage of time it has in keeping with the trends of modern times the magazine is becoming thinner by the day. And the advertisements are increasing. Most importantly all the advertisements are put on the odd numbered pages making it highly inconvinient to read the magazine. But as we all know here you people publish DIGIT to make money and money u should make.
So keep making money

Please don't waste precious disc space on the movies and comic videos.
Put in some game videos and Hindi and english movie trailers.Also decrease
space from the productivity tools.Give more big softwares and game demos.People write so much abt piracy and you too support it like me which is why i don't buy new games much but mod my old games.
it's great fun and it's free it's the open source in gaming.So instead of big talk why don't you become the india's 1st mag to give mods for games like gta series fifa,wwe raw,f1,etc.Once people know modding and know the difference they won't go for new versions of their games every now and then,thus reducing piracy.For eg-if anyone likes a game like fifa 2005 but finds fifa 2006 hard or different then he can mod fifa 05 and change the teams the graphics and many more.it'll give it a new look and your favourite gameplay remains as it is.

For the last couple of months, the print quality of the magazine has been deteriorating. The images are blurry, ghosted and the colours dull. Even some of the pages containing text have the "ghost" effect and looks like it has been printed twice. The colours are not alligned properly leading to the these getting shifted from where they normally should have been. These things used to happen in older days, I remember seeing such errors in old comics where the face and clothes of the characters got printed way outside his body. Certainly such errors could be avoided now.

And yes, the paper quality is bad. I had no problems as long as the printing was good. But a poor quality print on a poor quality paper looks very cheap. It doesn't suit Digit. Please try to improve atleast the printing. I don't know how much extra it costs to provide smooth glossy type paper, but if similar priced and even lower priced magazines can afford it then why not Digit?

Hey guys! Month after month you do a marvellous job churning out those heavy magz n rviewing all those products.I am sure its fun for both you people and of course us! But I have a complaint. I have tried it about 2136677 times to mail agent 001 regarding a purchase issue but everytime the mal fails and bounces back. Is his id really agent001@thinkdigit.com or sometihng else. Even if u did so u must have tried to create a Digit archive of the articles on your website. For the past several months the people at AFL courier are not delivering my DIGIT copies on time and this month they refused to deliver and misbehaved with me. I am a subsciber of DIGIT vides subscription number N002536. Today some person from AFL courier called me up at about 1.00 pm and told me that three is courier from JASUBHAI. I reasonably believe that it is my November copy of DIGIT. He asked me to collect the same from AFL's office. When I went to collect the same he demanded some Identity Card from me. I was not carrying any card so I requested him to deliver the parcel to my house and gave him exact location of my house but he misbehaved with me and used filthy language which I cannot reprodue here and said that he would not deliver the parcel and return it. What I could note down from the cover of parcel is following information:

This is highly objectionalble on the part of courier company deployed by you. I am subscribing to around 20 magazines and most of them are being delivered through INDIA POST. Excpt for some stray incidences I am fairly regularly receiving the same. This kind of behavior on the part of your courier company is highly objectionalbe and unacceptable. I am contemplating suing the courier company in the local consumer forum. You are also requested to please provide me the address of the head office of AFL Courier to help me file case against them for deficient services.

hi guys i didn't find a suitable place to post it so am posting it here, i paid for my online subscription through my debit card, 1200bux are deducted from my account but digit isn't comfirming on it! actually what had happened was the site ccavenue took me to my bank's site to pay and there it said the payment got successful upon redirection it said transaction failed on the website of ccavenue. please tell me what to do? it's urgent!

Even I would go for the Home Security System through a computer. Would be glad if that is provided. I have one more suggestion - why dont U all give us a Fast Track on all the tips and tricks provided in the previous issues as well as new ones. There is one thing that almost everyone has been demanding and I will do the same now, a DL DVD or 2 DVDs, and more articles on Do it yourself as has been suggested above by aneesh karla and also, please make sure that the subscribers get the magazine at least before 4th or 5th of each month. I received PC World on the 4th. And an email from digit saying the delivery has been delayed.

I understand that you guys at digit are always trying to improve the packaging and all but while the copies travel long distances over cities, I have found that the distributors at some point get a habit of folding the BIG package in order to reduce the size of the whole packet containing several mags. (like the december issue in 3 folds). This causes the packet to be torn & mag to be bent etc..... I wonder if you could figure out someway to prevent this folding habit by reducing the packet size, i mean to say by making it more compact than looking good on 'display'.

Sorry, I know That i am not a businessman but I am ony a engg.student of computer science branch. Why don't you publish digit in two way
1. FOR HUNGRY ones for software: publish this book for RS. 100+ which will contain lots of software a thick book.and all other things..............

2. Hungry Ones for Knowledge: this will contain A bit poor quality paper and bit less info. with one cd which will contain some important software along with information about your book content and DVD's and CD's software content, as you were publishing about 2 years back dvd content info. in cd's.

Why Digit should give dual layer DVD?

Of late, there has been plenty of demands for dual layer DVDs. PCWorld has been giving it since its inception, and now Chip and PCQuest has joined the dual layer bandwagon. A thread was created regarding this issue and members posted various suggestions. Digit has not responded till now and I don't know what they could be thinking right now. If they haven't started thinking about this yet, then I would like explain to them why it would be advantageous to provide dual layer DVD, in a language that they perhaps understand.

Advantages of giving dual layer DVD:

1. We all know, cost isn't a problem. I would like to go as far as to say that it would be actually cheaper to provide one dual layer DVD in place a single layer DVD and a CD, in terms of cost of material and money paid to the replicating company. The subsequent points will furthur show how it will be cheaper.

2. With only 1 DVD to give, Digit could do away with the jewel case and instead provide a paper pouch lined on the inside with foam. This would reduce cost in manufacturing the CD cases as paper is cheaper than plastic.

3. By giving the DVD on a paper pouch instead of a jewel case will ensure safer transportation of the DVDs. Which means no more dislocation of the DVD inside the case and hence no chances of scratching and breaking. Hence no replacement requests by the readers which means fewer headache for both the readers as well as Digit.

4. Doing away with the jewel case would furthur reduce the size of the final package of the magazine, which again translates to reduced cost in terms of packaging, their storage and transportation.

5. Dual layer DVD means more software for the readers, which is a great help to all those who don't have broadband connection or limited BB connection.

6. Dual layer DVD means the linux users can enjoy the latest distros as space is no problem. Even after giving away a linux distro worth 3.5GB, there is still 5GB of space left for the regular stuff. So no more complaints from linux users, and there will be a boost in sales whenever a popular distro is bundled along.

7. More people will be willing to fish out Rs 25 extra to grab Digit than any of the competiting magazines.

8. All these means Happy Readers, Happy Digit.

well i dont care what all dvd stuff or whats free my main concern is that whats the point of subscription when u get it after half month gone its already 12th and when i call today mumbai office they said 3 days more everytime same issue late stuff i am not living in village i am in delhi where courier takes hardly 24 hr to reach from big cities of india i dont know why so much time and best part after 1 yr or so digit will start 2 issues together means jan and feb issue together we will get lol i am just waiting for my subscription to get end so that i can get rid of this cheap stuff

Overall Good reading experience without additional FAST TRACK!

Here you get extra point.But stop polluting
country with two disks, instead go for one

While everyone is talking about Dual Layer DVD, I would like to suggest that you come with another offer for DVD writers and roms. I bought my Lite-On DVD ROM from you, its really good. Seeing the market prices now, I think you will be able to give us a bargain. I don't mind waiting for a month or two after placing the order, as long as the price is good, and the drives on offer are not Samsung, else there won't be too many takers

Please change the box in which u give the cd & dvd.The button at the middle is hard,so when u remove the cd/dvd a couple of times there is a risk of cracking it.I had a crack on ur november 2005 dvd,but thank god it still works.U can give the cd/dvd in some other case which will not cause this damege.

Atleast give CDs in covers to subscribers..... and please include at least an article on linux every issue, like news, tuts, general info, distro reviews.

Please improve the paper quality of the magazine.
In reviews, it would be helpful to include the contact details of the retailer or dealer from whom the goods can be purchased.

i wish we could have some stuff on C++/VB. A page or two for student programmers like me(there are really many of us) would be great.

cd/dvd should nothave the same version software everytime. and most importantly get that cd/dvd box back. this paper cover is absurd. my digit archive cd was broken

and the vendor isn't agreeing that it was broken before being sold to me. for non-subscribers, it's the worst that can have happened.

the new interface is welcome and great.

Atleast this month will i recieve digit on time.last month i recieved it on 22nd.that doesn't look good.this particular courierservice have never delivered digit to me before 10th.and during dec. it was worst.for a period of 6 months i was getting digit on 5th or 6th then it was delivered by bluedart.then whatsoever happened they changed the courier service.Digit should consider changing to good courier service like AFL , BLUEDART etc..

digit is getting bad if not worse in delivering isuues to their subscribers.this hurts.plz look into this guys

First of you change the courier service . last month (december) i received the mag on 16 of the month .That is not month issue .The month does'nt start on 15 . MAG should be delivered at most before 10 of the month . it was not just last month but it is allways the same problem .

secondly pls give the movie trailers of bollywood movies also . and if it is hollywood movies or bollywood movies pls give it before the movie releases not after the movies is released .

The new interface is good but info about the app should be displayed while selected . so if it is new software or a user is a newbye . so we get the idea that what does the app do . and what are it's features

SUBSCRIPTION OFFER -- NOT SATISFACTORY

I recently renewed my subscription for 5 years (ofcourse lured by the DVD Writer) -- after checking with your Subscription dept on the type of DVD Writer (Internal / External).. They were not able to respond clearly & I had to tell them that I have a laptop and whether I would be able to use the DVD Writer externally connecting to my laptop -- I was told I would be able to.

Yesterday I received the package and I find it to be the internal DVD Writer and not the external type....

I'm extremely dissatified with:
#1. Not providing more details on the offer & the free gifts as part of your subscription offers
#2. Your staff not (being able to / providing) proper info to my request.

Now I got to find a way on how I can actually use this drive without having to invest much !!

Any suggestions on how I can put this DVD Writer to use when I have just a laptop would be greatly appreciated.

Video Tutorial on DVD

Hi,

In past Digit has provided Video tutorial on CD. Now Digit has also gone to DVD, so there is lot of scope for video tutorial.Advantages of video tutorial:

1. It is easier to learn from some minutes of video on 'how to' than written pages.

2. 'DO it your self' section will be easy to do things when Digit teaches by video tutorial.

3, Demand of readers for 'how to' ,'DO it your self' will be satisfied without use of magazine, so in magazine you may conti for other articles or you may like to include some more advertisement !

4. Video tutorial for subject will be shoot out by Digit Team , so no need to get permissions, no need to hectic search & downloading from internet.

5. This way Digit team will proudly have exclusive video tutorial collection in long run. Days are coming of broadband internet connection in India & elsewhere ,video (for education)transfer on internet will may become new business.

well i am at present in Kuwait... i was in India(Goa) till December2006 and i had taken the subscription plan for 5 years in which i have already received the DVD writer and the USB Drive... i thank you'll alot for your response...
well now i have a problem and that is all my magazines which i had subscribed to are in my Cousin's name and he receives them all in India...
and so i dont get a chance to have a look at them...
by any chance can i get the soft copies for the month 2007 in my email inbox... if at all it is possible... coz i just miss all those beautiful and terrific articles that you'll give in your magazines especially the test centre...

I know that this should not be posted here. rather in the digit patron section but that thread was closed.
I have seen people mentioning the patron gifts like Munnabhai dvd, game cds or f16 etc., But I dont see them when I "view all gifts" in digit patron. I see only 13 gifts. why is it so? Does the contents vary time to time.. or do they vary according to the subscription plan you have? please inform me. If this post is moved somewhere, please let me know where. Sorry for the trouble..

BTW I didnt get my gift(Lord Of the Rings DVD) yet though I got a mail on 16th feb 2007 stating that 'my gift was dispatched and I will be receiving it in a few days.'

My sincere request to admins/Mods of forum to make necessary changes so that RSS FEEDS FROM THIS FORUM CARRY MORE THAN JUST THE TOPIC NAME .... it would be really welcome and desired if it could carry the post also under the topic.... short topic names hardly convey anything. Moreover among all the sites from where I receive RSS feeds this forum being a PC technology oriented forum carries the least material in feeds.

Most tutorials, articles, cd/dvd content are windows based. I agree that there a more no. of windows users than linux. But if you have some linux content, then it would be better. I have seen only one fastrack on linux and one on Open-Source. At least 5-10% of mag shud contain linux related content.

Please open source DIGIT ARCHIEVE so that others can also benifit from it

yes.let's have some contents on Linux for newbies irrespective of any distro's.
some insights on Linux user administration,firewall(iptables) and Linux File system hierarchy(which is very much confusing for windows(addicted) users!).Hope it is cared by admins.

The softwares given on the Digit CD/DVDs should clearly be illustrated in the CD/DVDs itself.I mean the information given by its side are not sufficient enough for beginners. It should clearly state that how much disk space it would take,CPU usage(Celestia took charge of my CPU instead),installation guides specially for Linux distros(screenshot views)
This will help greatly.

I know i already posted this elsewhere in the forum but please pay attention to the compatibility issue, the digit dvd seems to present itself as a nuisance lately. Why? Because the dual layer dvd given with pc world and all works too well with my sony dvd drive and i don't think its worth screwing your customers up. Now i've run a check of the dvd on my friends laptop and it works well also i run the lens cleaning cd that i have but that dvd must be dumb! I mean if the dual layer dvd given with pc world works fine on my pc than why is digit dvd not?

I'm reading Digit for almost 3 years contenuously. The mag is great, nothing to tell about that. I only requesting you to provide some expert tips & tricks on multimedia softwares (photoshop, corel, illustrator, 3D etc.) dedicated to the supplimentary book u provide with the mag.
I'm a graphic designer working in PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt. Ltd., kolkata, i have some ideas about the way it can be provided.

I dont know where to post this but this was the best place I could find it.... I just hope someone from THE DIGIT TEAM atleast reads this :

First of all I've been a customer of DIGIT all along right from it was coined as DIGIT till this August 2007.... And even when it was being called as CHIP I was a subscriber too.... So starting from around 1999 I believe.....

I frequently face these problems :

My DIGIT Magazine arrives to my home only after the 15th of the month most of the times..... That too half the time with damaged media for which I usually send mails and get the replacements by month end....

Second of all it really frustrates me before I get any reply for the mails i send.... Only if I send 3 mails minimum, I get a reply and that too not a proper one....

I had sent this query as well to the DIGIT TEAM as well and as usual no reply for that either.... So I've decided not to re-subscribe for the magazine once and for all....

I dont know why the customer service has become so bad now.... Around 2 yrs back and all it was quite good.... But not anymore is it ??

Pls add "Shout Box" Option to Forum

Their is One Option called "Shout Box" I have seen in many Forums

We have a OpenSource forum for GNU/Linux exclusive topics. Why can't we have a Microsoft Forum for microsoft/windows related topics? Or can we ask people to post linux problems in software troubleshooting itself? I find it confusing when some problems are posted in the OSS section and others in the QnA or Software troubleshooting section. So if there is a seperate microsoft section, we can rest assured that all M$ Window$ relatred problems are posted there.

Also, it will be a good idea for threads in OSS section to also have links in other sections, where the same topics can be fit. This way, the usability of the forums will be increased.

I recently bought a mobo, proc and RAM from nehru place based on the recommendations of digit..and it took me weeks to locate authorised dealers for some of the products u recommended like VIP (smps and cabinet), kingston/transcend/corsair ram.

The reason that I was looking for authorised dealers was because I feel that lots of products available in nhru plc are FAKE..(this was confirmed by some of the authorised distributors of kinsgston and transcend RAM

Here is my two cents:

Please concider giving all valid/proved/good tips, guides, tutorials, etc posted on this forum in an eBook on the magazine. This way, even those without internet can benifit from this forum.

And make it a point to have atleast two shootouts per month.

Offering for sale a special issue with nothing but shootouts of the entire year on december is another good idea that can be implemented. Atleast the special issue can be an eBook with only pages of digit mag that have shootouts. This will become handy for all those too lazy to search through the entire digit archieve.

The above two needn't be only ebooks, but to save costs, epaper IS a realistic option.

The cd is a thing of past replace the cd with a dual layer dvd , contents video lectures from mit ocw etc

Hey digti i like all the content on the magazine and the disks but my kindly request is that the CD Jewel case is not so good the most of the cases almost 90%, the CD's donot sit in their place and due to that some CD's are effected by scratches please rectify it pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee.

April DVD worked for very few people. I think DIGIT people very well know before hand that DVDs are faulty but they choose to deliver these avoiding cost & schedule overrun. Shame on DIGIT.

They have sent replacement dvd (April 08) which is again not working

the major reason i see of the dvd's not working is the plastic case..mostly the cd's(and dvd's too) are usually displaced of their holders(leads to scratching)..so it would be better to use the simple paper and plastic covers..
i havent actually had problems with the dvd's usually (only twice in the last 20 or so issues..)
and i saw a post from another person regarding the linux distros..saying that most of the people reading used windows and only 2 distros should be given annually..PLEASE do not take this suggestion..
evrything else paper quality,ads etc..are fine with me..fasttrack too rocks...no need to improve the paper quality..its meant to read..and it server the purpose quite well..

A ticker from Giveawayoftheday would be really good.

I think my and some active members views about digit magazine has made many many tech hunger members to rethink about buying this months special edition. Its true and there r many facts to support this thinking about think-digit.
1. This months edition is late. I am not sure when will it reach in hills of Uttarakhand. So to satisfy our hunger we had to buy the Chip.
2. This special edition is not worth Rs.200.00 (Dvd seems useless). Only the magazine content seems appealing(but I am not sure). While this month's chip is at Rs. 150 mark. With 3 useful DVD's and a great magazine content.
3. Digit's content/page ratio is much lower then chip.
4. Chip's cost content/page is much less.
5. Chip is now available in my city.

So I had to make a hard decision to leave out this months digit edition or not and buy the Chip.

And buy the graphic card comparison edition or the digital camera edition and then buy the December/2008 edition and then there I can read the missed digit issues.

If any one bought the magazine and finished reading it please Inform how is the magazine content. Thats to quickly.

Don't You all think that this useless, late "latif", staff of Digit should be fired.

Tips and Tricks should become more creatable. now its being an general help.
Digit is becoming a student magazine. pl provide a separate section for Tech Experts.

If you dont concentrate paper quality, pl dont use Dark Colours.
Provide a region wise sellers , distributers, suppliers of common hardware and software as seperate book by quarterly or bimonthly
QnA should have serious and genuine problems

There is a thought in my mind. I had seen that most of you ask the team digit to increase the paper quality of the magazine and fast track.and many of you criticize them also. But I think that this is not fare.

1. We should look at the quality of matter they provide not the paper.

2. By decreasing the quality of paper they can increase the page nos. in magazine/fast track.(Decrease in paper quality should result in increase of the page no. in magazine/fast track.)

3. Decrease in quality may help them to control the price of magazine. (But this is not the case with them.) Decrease the paper quality and decrease the magazine price also specially your anniversary issues because their price don't justify the content of the magazine.

^LOL. But thats something I too have experienced, though I bought only 3 issues the whole of last year. And I didnot even buy the 7th Aniv Issue just because it was bloody red. I hate red.

Forum Guidelines need to be updated. It still contains description of old forum sections which have been changed since a long time.

Also it contains reputation info which was disabled long time back.

Please offer the option of packing the magazine and CDs in paper rather than plastic. Also reduce the amount of packaging material to save on resources and transportation.

And yeah, update those forum guidelines.

I remeber the 2005 december Cd DVD case the discs used to stay perfectly in place
now a days the case has become thinner but its unable to hold the cds and dvds and they get scratched. Please make better case or keep them in some plastic cover like other tech mags do.

However the ads in the website is just too much. I do not how but when my younger brother clicked on one of the ad link u posted it was connected to a pronographic site. I was really amused by this. Couldnt find feedback thread for August issue so i am putting my gripe here.
The openSUSE 11 DVD is again not working. During the stage of installation it says some packages have not instlled properly (at 68%)and the setup quits. I tried again and the same thing happens ( i chose KDE 4). Plz do something as it seems Digit botches up the bootable dvd all the time.

Things to better;
1. DVD Case. I mean the DVDs dont stay in place; but I like it more than plastic or paper. I hear that the issue is somewhat resolved in August 2008 DIGIT?

2. The MAG is getting thinner; maybe because thinner paper is being used, maybe pages are reduced.

I think its struggling to keep the price same; thats why more ads and lower quality is there. Its not that its good but then again; ts permissible. Though I would never like DIGIT to cut down on content. IF there's enough content; I dont mind ads at all.

I am a digit subscribe But i am angry with your magazine. I love digit as a magazine but your delivery system sucks. You may have been telling whole world that you are number one but what about your service? i never get my magazine before 12th most of the time i get my copy around 15 what is this i am receiving my copy of digit after past half month that too after i have paid money for that copy in advance to you since i am a scribed. all other magazine treat there subscriber as kings but you treat them as they are dirt, i don't want to treated as a king but at least threat that me like that i exist. when i receives my copy of digit that late i feel like that i am not buying digit instead i feel like a beggar who is getting some leftover food & i am getting leftover copy of magazine that copy which is published more than the demand on the magazine by mistake & you are giving it to me free & pls don't say that sometimes magazine takes time to reach because i am digit subscribe for about last 3 years & only once i have received my copy on time on fifth.

i know i may have written here too harsh but this is my anger which is inside me for months.

Firstly i love digit more than any mag in the whole world.
I used to buy with my pocket money each issue of urs but now i am going to subscribe for 2 yrs. As Digi rocks.
Secondly in many of ur Dvd's i found out u have included full movies which are mostly useless instead if u cud provide us with tutorials of how to use few softs,like photoshop,ppt,etc..
In last years december issue u had given the prices of the components of computers for HTPC,Gaming,etc. Please do it once more as the prices have receeded further and also a small review on everything like reviewing 5 of each component.
If u ppl cud do this i wud get a fair idea of upgrading my pc.

I do agree the aniversary issue was a BIG FLOP but from the next month every issue was good and even better frm the last one. I dont think that the team digit is sleeping but they are running as speed as light...

Ya they are doing a great job, working day and night, 7 days a week. That's why We saw the preview of OCT issue on 30th September.

And you know I got the magazine in my hands on 3rd of this month. Its available here before time just because of their hard work and labor.

You guys need to review the latest gfx cards and the latest proccys/mobos as very new products have been released in these markets. Also, why not make a Digit Magazine Archive software? The software archive is a really useful tool to search for content on the disk. But if we need to read a particular article from the previous issues, we have to search the mags for it. So why not create a software to search for mag articles?

They can't even update their Home page and And you are talking about the article archive. It really un-human to ask them so much.

They never update their Digit archive. This is still in its beta stage from years. And their is no hope that it will become a full fledged software any day.

Also they are late release as you can find that oct. issue is late again. So you think they will come to a point where they can make there beta to go for a new version.

Also I hope that they dont come to a point where they release a late issue i.e. a October issue in November

Could not find a better place to post the following(actually it seems, none exists):

I wanted to get my mailing address changed, so I mailed help@thinkdigit[dot]com, waayyyyy back in August. But,it seems they still havent read that mail, nor the one that I sent in September, nor the one I sent in October. Neither have they responded to any of the mails, nor contacted me using the information I gave through the mailing address change form on this website.

Why does it seem that the customer service has worsened? Once I had sent a mail requesting replacement of damaged discs, back somewhere in Jan or Feb, I got a prompt reply the next day that my mail had reached and was under process. Not any longer.

If some admin is reading this, I want some answers. While you are at it, someone tell me why are you no longer printing the names and numbers of local representatives in metro cities.

And yeah, until some time back, I used to receive mail that the magazines had been dispatched and should reach in a few days. Not any longer?

Please, can someone look into this?

Magazine is ok. Not worse Not best. Avg content.

I would strongly advice against it. 64bit has shown no REAL improvements over 32bit as far as linux is concerned, except in multimedia related stuff. Till then, i686 will do.

And unlike windows, 32bit Linux indeed DOES support over 4GB RAM. It supports upto 16GB RAM. So please find 100 people with over 16GB RAM who buy digit and then I can agree its worth considering offering 64bit distros just for the sake of ram atleast once an year.

And if you want PROPER 64bit distros, you need to use something good like Gentoo or Arch. Ubuntu64 is actually often slower than Ubuntu32. And SuSE/Ubuntu64/32 loose to Arch686 any day.

Digit want to make some chages come back on right track

I am regular of the Digit since 2004 the digit not mating the customer expectation in this year. Digit is actually practice to the tech geek first choice & it also a best magazine in the technology but at this time making money otherwise to innovation and reduce heritage Goodwill in the Technology peak. But the expectation had not fulfilled by the Digit. At this time new firm which acquire digit making profit rather than enhance the knowledge and extra gain from other magazine? There are some important facts cast a glance I am mentioned some acknowledgment facts after seeing in the full year magazine of 2008 and CD&DVD are

:

1. There is only one special edition in the last year. But this year really pay more money pay to the digit. Can you explain why the 4 Special Edition in this year? This is only used as the profit making because the magazine nothing got special at all until Pay Rs.200 is such really high price.

2. Poor Packing in the August and November Issue. I would like to CD & DVD is not working properly and got scratch in the polythene. The CD case is really protective from damage and good collection for customer except the loose packing. The old packing is really good.

3. After the anniversary edition most digit customer expected that the next issue comes with 2 Dual-layer DVD. But its really not fulfill the expectation at least the one Single-layer DVD and one Dual-layer DVD. The new year really hopeful do in this matter.

4. Why you stop the "Take a Crack"? This is the blood of the magazine and started from 2004. The magazine not for only students But the professional is also read. Would you maintain the boundaries and some latest tech?

5. Repeating Many times of previous year Mazzini & fast track in the pdf format.

6. DVD & CD contents also less day by day and many freeware not give the new software & essentional.

7. Reduce the pages in this year magazines and increase ads or advertisements.

This nov08 dvd and cd contents are not pleasing enough. But the fast tract was great.

When are we getting the AJAX functionality back in the forum? It has been turned off since 6 months now. For people like me who are using Dial-up, it is really a pain in the a$$ when we see the page loading for editing our post.

I hope we get it back soon.

One more thing, Image attachments are not working. I also hope that they're rectified soon.

I agree with metal here. Dont give out 64 bit distros man. lots of bugs.

The forum attachment module is not working since the forum software was upgraded. All uploaded files get corrupted. If this problem can't be fixed atm, please disable the whole attachment feature so that members don't waste their time in uploading the file.

In December issue of Digit (on page 44), they write a short review about MSI P7NGM-Digital

Motherboard. The funny peoples write its price is only Rs. 5500/-. After searching all the

market of Delhi and Chennai, when I call to the MSI Custoer Care they told me, this Motherboard

is available on arount Rs. 7000/-

I don't really know whether this message of mine should be written here (or) not, but I did not find any other thread to write this. Thats why I am writing this here coz it is mentioned as what you think should change, both in the magazine

This is really not Fair...I did not really think that DIGIT acts UNFAIRLY towards the DIGIT Subscribers treating the SUBSCRIBERS less than the NewsStand readers.

I have been reading DIGIT when it was CHIP & I am a SUBSCRIBER to the Magazine since 2-Years. I subscribed to the Magazine hoping that "I WILL RECEIVE THE MAGAZINE BEFORE it hits the NEWSSTANDS", but in vain. I observed that, DIGIT comes to the NEWSSTANDS in the "FIRST WEEK" of the Month itself & whereas I (being a SUBSCRIBER) receive it after 12th of every MONTH. I am not sure whether this is the case with me only (or) for every Subscriber of DIGIT.

this started when i first started reading chip magazine but when i switched to digit it was like monthly nutrition for me i used to love your take a crack and tips &tricks section but since 3 or 4 months (i didnt get to read your dec issue it was sold out as i m not a subscriber i buy it monthly) you have reduced articles on softwares ,new websites and softwares on the DVD, CD though i like your distributing Linux distro's but still something is missing. i think you should revive your Take A Crack section and get more software reviews. Thanks to you i m shifting to linux (but i need xubuntu so send u in the by demand forum) i think you should build your dvd compatible for Linux and osX
as well. There was some error on you magazine cover this month(march) under the gaming on the back side of the plastic cover you had given the games under create and games creation software under Games Section.
i hope and pray that you keep up the good work and keep on giving such wonderful magazines and CD/DVD's.

720P HD trailers please

my monitor supports 1680*1050, so it cant play full HD vids, how many of them in India can play full HD on monitors? 2% of digit subscribers? so i request to include 720P which can be played in most monitors.

Hello, I am a new member and this is the first time I am writing.
Here goes:
I have a Sony Camcorder HDR-SR8E with 100gb HDD, and capable of recording Hi-Definition in AVCHD format.
I also have a DEll XPS 420 desktop with intel core 2 quad processor and running Windows Vista Home premium 32 bit as OS. I have installed on my system also, Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8.
I can make reasonably good resulting DVD's with 5.1 Dolby surround (since the camera ecords natively in Dolby 5.1 surround.
I am now interested to understand how can I make on standard DVD's the lowest of High Def movies at 720p. Is it possible or just wishful thinking on my part?[/B][/B]If it is possible con you walk me through a tutorial in one of your future magazines - I am sure there are many who would love to learn the methodology.
Is some special software necessary? I am not a geek - just an amature at level zero.
Please help and guide.

hey guys i always thought that why don't on the dvd we also have a option of "on disc" by clicking which we would be re-directed to the software where it is located on the disc...
this is very handy option as personally i feel copying some of the things from the digit dvd and storing them on my pc and searching for the same which i keep useful from the dvd and then copying is really time consuming as well as rather difficult

Change the old Vista luk in DVD's

My suggesstion is for the forum....the forum is becoming a advertizment portal day by day. It is covered with all kind of ads and it hogz bandwidth. A forum should be simple. If the ads are required please create a link to another page rather than displaying on the main pages

My Suggestions: (Not Any Dumbo Thing)

1) Reduce Ads In The Mag. (It Looks A Bit Irritating)
2) Give More Tips & Tricks With Brief & Only Important Contents.
3) Give Tutorials On Softwares Which Are A Bit Tough To Get Used To. A Must According To Me (Most Preferably A Video Tutorial On DVD)

According To Me These Are The Most Preferred To Me And i Hope To Others Too.

I Would Also Advice To Have A Topic Opened Every Month On "What Softwares They Want To See On DVD In Different Categories. (To Reduce The Problem Only 1 Software From 1 Person Would Be Great)

Respected sir, I am new to this forum & new to digit altogether(read just 2 issues,june/may), after i went through them, here are my suggestions...
1. The 'Spend Smart' article, providing the costs of latest peripheral, should also give prices of other variour computer products like RAM, Storage, Monitors, Speakers, Graphics card, Keyboard-mouse, Cooling solutions, SSDs, Printers etc. Also, I'd love if this page goes a bit thorough about the products. Example both may & june issue show ASUS M4A78STD-V-EVO (motherboard) with 1 x PCIe x16 slot, whereby, it actually is 2 x PCIe slot mobo with one running at x16 & other at x4 bandwidth.

2. The section 'Killer Rigs' helps reader built their own PCs, but this page can lead to horrifying blunders. Example if a person (consider n00b like me) wants to buy a high-end processor & mid-end motherboard, he might as well get stuck with an AMD processor with LGA mobo.
I suggest you to give out configurations of a specific rigs in one portion & rest as follows.
3. Also, let the DVD's contain the ebooks of previous issues of digit/Skoar!, so that newbees like me can catch 'em.
4. Also, this may sound crazy, but make the articles more humorous. By that i mean giving several funny references, making fun of something. It can sound childish but personally i think that i'd go deeply through the articles if they were a bit funny.crazy demand by a crazy reader.

More suggestions will come as soon as I get my hands on upcomming issues.

I have been a subscriber for many years & have seen all the aavatars & name changes that have taken place to this mag. I like this mag v much & am currently on a 3 yr subscription. In the Jul 2010 mag I saw the new subscription rates & was shocked by the steep hike, I know raw material prices have gone up etc. This forced me to think & was wondering if you could send the mag in .pdf format to subscribers (if they want it so) of course at a much reduced rate & only the disks can be sent by mail (if they so choose). In future when e readers become common place maybe it can be sent directly to it.

Digit should make sure that it is available at the bookshops atleast before 4th of every month.

problem is not with bandwidth , people use flashy images and this distracts users attention from post.
again page looks like more of ads/images and less content.

Moderated signatures (for new members) and limiting the image size can easily solve the above^ problem.

Guys, while providing a single linux distro in the discs, please make it a bootable disc since everytime, we want to try a distro, it has to be burnt to a new disc or copied to a pendrive (which doesnt work most of the time)

Now whenever I get tempted to purchase Digit present or past best issues online payment checkout I always see payment options that are not suited for me. Demand draft- After digit gives us 50 rupees discount then that saved amount or less The bankers take for making a demand draft. Cheque Everytime my father gets worried when he signs these just for a less amount of mere rs.200. And the signature DID have the images enabled back then. For the same reason as some forum members are suggesting that it will become crap, the images was disabled later from the forum.

Also, it was a big deal when the forum was moved to vBulletin (Paid). Because forum members never wanted PAID forum, b'coz it brings advertisement with it.

But DIGIT admin decided to move to vBulletin :sad:

Stop complaining about ads and get an ad-blocker (AdblockPlus plugin, compatible with most of the browsers).
I've never used any site without an ad-blocker so I'm not much aware of these pop-up ads above words, but when it happened, a crappy plugin (in Firefox) was the cause. Thus, the misconception here.
These pop-up above words will appear again because the site's looks like to be still using konac.kontera.com (site responsible for such ads).
This site's a nightmare with ads.

1) Both avatar resolution and size limits are fine. I remember earlier it was 75x75 and 15.4 kB.

I find Mybb very confusing to use. It has icons for everything , even to opens ones profile. Chip forums has it and from my experience there i dont want Tdf to have it.

Why dont you remove those ad's instead of suggesting us to use Adblock's

I don't have any ADBLOCK installed.

And I still don't see any Pop-up ads in the Index page or elsewhere in this forum. Except the Top BAR and Bottom BAR ads.

And regarding Forum themes:

It was enabled once and then it was disabled because it made the forum unstable. When members choose there own style and theme forum used to crash so, Admin made it a SINGLE theme.

But I think its time now to move to VBulletin 4.x and RE-ENABLE all the features.

+1 the white background makes it rather ugly.

I've removed those unnecessary smilies altogether.

You want to use other smileys, install extensions for your browser. They would make it easy. Firefox has plenty of smiley extensions.

I honestly don't see any reason to bug the admins for uploading/adding one mere smiley. We all can live with the current ones. And the "ugly" pink tongue smiley has been replaced with the one which we had since 7 years.

1)there should be a sortable option after searching a text in TDF(like sort by no of replies/visits/author name etc..)

2)while showing new posts to a registered TDF user, please give priority for subscribed posts/threads to show first and the rest of the contents line up later!.

right now..in that "new posts" replies to the subscribed thread will also show up, what i am trying to say is, in that "New posts" let the replies to the subscribed thread/post come first and rest of them can be showed after that.

Sorry, but this won't happen. The rep system was implemented after big demand, but we reached a compromise. Admins/mods did not want it really, but members did. So we agreed to keep reps anonymous and to not display them on the profile. Anyway, there are ways to circumvent that barrier. Those who want to let others know that they have repped them, can easily do so.

I prefer anonymous reps. And no need to thank anyone for a rep, just rep the posts you like and hope that one of them reached someone who repped you.

lately i have decided to go bit critical over the hd game trailers and gameplay videos that digit is bundling in the discs.
The problem is mostly with the gametrailers.com videos which are in majority in the gaming videos section.
Following are the isssue:
1.all of them are hd in name only(except the 720p resolution)
2.most of them are badly upscaled and console recorded and therefore lacks in quality.
3.There is lots of pixelation of dynamically changing content(no hardware based Issues to complain)..and the whole videos are faded lacking colur
4.Everyone who would hae first hand experience of playing them have must noticed that those GT Videos are badly re-rendered with heavy frame dropping.
I WOULD LIKE TO EMPHASISE HERE THAT NONE OF THE PLAYBACK ISSUES OF GT CONTENT IS ASSOCIATED WITH HARDWARE QUIRKA AND I HAV TRIED TO CHECK IT ON MULTITUDE OF DEVICE AND PLATFORMS(VLC,GOM,WMP,KLITE,LINUX,WINDOWS and even on mobile devices)
Here IS my Advice:
1.Skip The gt.com as source for hd game videos..THE MUCH BETTER place to look for is IGN,gamespot,gamevideos.1up.com,hdtrailerz.com, all of which features official Trailers
2.IGN And Gamespot provides PC walkthrough(gameplay vids ) which are much smoother and well recorded in comparison to console videos of gt
3.Youtube is always there to have hands on HD OFFICIAL Trailers from the respective publisher
4.THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE..WHY include gametrailers staff played gameplayu videos when the Guys at digit can have there own walkthrough on dvdz and please allow for TDF gamers to have their best WALKthroughs getting featured DVD(even if it is occassional)

it is really not of much use to provide us 1080p videos. Most people cannot play them due to lack of good hardware.
1080p videos also would consume lots of space. That again I think is a waste. Digit are better of giving more software according to me. Many non broadband users read this magazine and are benifitted by software.

Dude iam not saying that the game videos shoud be hd and that it should 1080p rather than 720p
instead iam kind of on ur side ..what iam saying is that the gt hd vids are complete waste since they eat up the size of dvd by occupying large space

Team Digit should do something to give a good lesson to RASHI PERIPHERALS regarding the harrasments we face during RMA.

DIGIT once have done this to VIEWSONIC by taking initiatives which is praiseworthy.

It is a request from all digitians who faced the inhuman behaviour from Rashi so that we regain faiths on ASUS and other products handled by RASHI.

I completely understand your reasoning. In fact, even I am against manual moderation as it is equally tough for us. But spam checks will be there. Sadly, there is no other way. Believe me, it is equally difficult for us to approve post on a constant basis and be online all the time.

There is Tapatalk but I don't want to spend money on that. A free TDF app will be great.

Please again start all those little contests that were given in the old issues of Digit of years 2006-2007 but specially the contest in which we had to given funny captions to pictures that were already given a funny caption by the digit team, aka the caption contest.
I don't know why Digit stopped the "30 minutes with..." article that was usually published in Digit. But it was amazing and it should be started again as it provided lots of knowledge.
I still remember how I present making and using batch files using the tutorial on Windows batch files.

First of all welcome to the forum. The questions restrictions are only for first few posts to prevent bots spamming the forums. As you get beyond a certain threshold, you won't be asked anything again before every post.

The got my December issue yesterday and was content was good as per usual but the DVD interface is rather boring. Why do you guys use i pad as interface, get something Original! Also about the music you use in interface, please just provide it without music instead or use good one.
The magazine is thin, I expected a thicker issue for Rs 250. There was no problem in content, but the layout does need a makeover. Fast track should be digital or the paper used in that should be replaced. Where are the "previous digit issues" you generally provide, I really wanted those?

I've been a Digit reader for over 6 years now and this is the first time I'm writing with feedback to you since this issue is likely to force me to not renew my subscription.

I've seen numerous typos in Digit in the last 2-3 months - seems like nobody cares to read the articles before sending it out to publishing. In Dec issue, I thought it was a one-off bad month but this has continued to happen in Jan edition as well. Feb edition was worst of all.

I can't imagine so many typos in a college magazine let alone one that is sold in market and claims to be no.1 magazine of India.

Apart from these typos, there were 10-15 pages missing in my Dec copy and one DVD was missing as well (there were 2 copies of Extraa DVD and third one was Alpha). I did not bother to write to helpdesk since those pages did not excite me much (Zero 1 awards). I thought I can excuse you guys this one time but 2 months down the line, I'm pissed big time due to other issue.

Request you to check why such errors get through to printing and address the issue.

Excuse me for being rude but I certainly will stop my subscription if one more half-baked edition comes through to me. I'll never complain of bad articles since such opinions will vary from person to person but typos are such a turn-off. Send me my copy a month late but do quality check at your end please. Hope you understand my concern.

If I'm able to find some time, I'll retrace and pinpoint these typos. However, I'm sure you would already be aware of the issue.

They have this "Best Answer" badge for 'obviously' best answers.

Can we have something similar? This would be really helpful.

Yeah, this would also make it easy for guest visitors to quickly identify the solution to the problem in thread.

I don't think so, it may encourage positive responses or people supporting a particular point of view would not have to explicitly reply.

Hi Digit, I have been an avid reader of your magzine for about about 8 years and honestly this is my first time when i took time off my medical studies to give u guys my feedback.
back from the days when digit used tech Covers for its mag and then slowly switching to models holding gadgets and then back to its own self of beauty of technology on the cover screen, it has been a journey worth every penny i spent on this fabulous magzine.
Will u guys plz give a detailed Article on Cracking WEP password ? ( Knowledge is beautiful , share it ) no ? and it will be a cool learning experience for many !
There are various tutorials which have been providing easy to study education on such senstive topics with BIG disclaimers !
Being leaders of tech magz in india , we do expect such topics to be covered too !

2. Why dont u guys include You tube tutorials in ur DVDs ?
Plz include the Clips of the month /Popular Youtube picks as links to the Websites in ur DVDs

4.@This one is to the Editor particularly : I found u to be very outspoken and harsh while answering queries to what are being published in the Magzine. (Thats not just my opinionn but 5 or 6 friends of mine who are digitians have the same opinion as well. May be till now no one said it to u or whatever , but try to be a bit polite in answering the readers.

P.S. We read the replies of other editorial staff as well , there must be something wrong , that we have concluded this .

I am a digit subscriber. I don't get time to read the print version. Mostly i enjoy the DVD. My suggestion is to have a web version of digit, this should be in HTML, not PDF. Allow subscribed users log in to members area and read. After X months, make these issues public so it help everyone. Most don't have time to read old issues, but if it is available on web, it help lot. This web version should be available to every subscribers. With HTML version, you can easily read with TTS.

If you cant afford tapatalk then download OPERA MINI ... turn images off it is even faster then tapatalk and also the multitab support

Opera Mini sucks big time man..I don't get to see the real website, it goes to Opera's servers first. I don't want that, why would I pay Rs. 9k for this mobile when I can have that in a 4k device. I have Opera Mobile. Can I turn off images for this particular site only? If not, no use, since I visit other websites also from Opera Mobile since its my primary browser.
BTW, this site un-viewable on the stock Android Browser. Forget, Firefox since resources are less (512 MB RAM

).

Are there problems with how td and tdf display on the mobile? Tdf had a mobile theme that has to be user selected, so try that. As for td, those side ads are supposed to go away when the page loads on a mobile. The new td we are working on will not have any problems like this obviously.

Sir, the default themed website runs laggy whereas mobile sites of TOI, The Hindu, Facebook,etc. run smooth in my smartphones' Opera Mobile browser. Can the themes be device specific or is there a separate mobile domain for TDF? I access TDF both from my smartphone as well as my desktop PC. Upon selecting the Mobile skin, it sets that for both the platforms.

Ok will look into auto- setting of forum theme.

For TD try m.thinkdigit.com though its supposed to take that by default based on the resolution. Do you have desktop mode turned on in the browser or something?

Sir , m.thinkdigit.com opens Digit. I tried that on Opera Mobile, FireFox for Android , FireFox on my desktop PC as well . I have checked the Settings in Opera Mobile & they are set to Mobile mode: Settings->Advanced->User Agent->Mobile. There is also such Setting in FireFox For Android: Settings-->>Request Desktop Site ( & it is unchecked). Also, FireFox on Desktop PC opens Mobile site of Facebook upon entering m.facebook.com but not in the case of m.thinkdigit.com as stated earlier.

Ok will look into it. Opera mobile, right? What model phone? Edge or 3G? Sometimes when the page is still loading, those ads on the side appear, which again disappear when it completes loading.

However on a mobile browser it's supposed to show the mobile td site by default. Only forum skin has to be manually selected to show mobile version. Just tested on 2 bb10 devices, the TD site loads mobile CSS by default. Will try and test using whatever device you have in a few days.

Yes, sir. It does show the mobile site by default on mobile upon selecting the mobile skin. It also started showing the mobile site on desktop as soon as I selected mobile skin. But I changed it to default skin & the desktop site was back on desktop pc. Although , on mobile it continues to run mobile site

My mobile is Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 & is running EDGE (my plan is expiring today & i will be moving to 3G now

). The ads do disappear when the site is fully loaded on both platforms.

Include all Fast Track PDFs, just like the entire digit PDFs given in the next month's DVD. i think PDFs of few were given some time back but don't remember which and when.

imo, the best thing will be to put all PDFs (of that year) - digit + dgt + fast track in anniversary dvd.

Moreover, it would be better to put a list of DVD contents right here in the forum. that way, it will be easy to search n find dvd contents instead of checking them one by one (i have zillions of them and am gonna donate them soon after i decide which ones to keep)

i would like suggest a fast track on Intel Perceptual Computing along with its SDK on dvd
also try to include free to play steam games like Team Fortress 2 and dota 2 on dvds

An article on perceptual computing along with the SDK in the DVD was present in the 12th anniversary issue.

You're right it was included....Playeed it for a while, amazing game but bad pings and it was getting crashe after an update.

One need to think at the level of entire digit subscribers.. 2dvds full of coursewares may not be liked by some.

and dvd's full of freewares and game demos either be liked by me );
videos on opensource hardware from archive.com would be good too as educational videos.

AFAIK There used to be a rep system on TDF temporarily. Apparently, it didn't work out.

"Like" feature is being tested in tdf.

Why the dislike button? Just don't click the 'Like'..
Moreover, the 'Likes' won't be counted and shown against the user profile. Only the comment alone will have the Like count.

Just use any stack exchange site regularly for few days, you'll understand the importance of existence of dislike button near a like button.

Now I usually don't have a problem with ads in the header or at the side, but the last 2 days there's this pop up ad that comes up everytime I am on a new page.
It blocks the lower half page view & you can't do anything without closing it. I wish they didn't allow intruding ads like that.

change the theme settings to TDF 6.5 or tdf members, the ads are only for guests^^
