1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: Programming, vmware, running computational programs like GROMACS, vmd, etc.

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: Yes

3. What is your MAX budget?
A: 22k

4. Planning to overclock?
A: Never

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Linux, with Windows 7 in vmware

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: No HDD required.

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: 3 different systems have 3 different monitor, confused? Please see the answer of the last question.

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: 7

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A: I will be building it.

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: within a week, asap

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: Yes, for at least 4 years

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: HDD, Monitor, ODD, Cabinet, KB/mouse, Speaker, Headphone

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: Bangalore, will buy from Bangalore only. Its for office use and have particular vendors.

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A: Ideally, there should be no hiccups in Linux. In essence, I need suggestion for CPU, MoBo, PSU and RAM... nothing else needed at this point. It is for office purpose. We will buy 3 systems, and the total budget is 65k. Hence that odd budget of 22k mentioned above, and 3 different screens, :)

I was thinking along these lines -

a) Intel i5 2500 (non-K)
b) good H67 motherboard, like Intel DH67BL
c) G.Skill Ripjaws 2x4GB 1333 RAM
d) Corsair VX450

Intel Core i5 2400 @ 9.5k
Intel DH67CL @ 6k
corsair/kingston 2*2gb ddr3 1333 @ 2.2k
corsai vx 450W @ 3.6k

all set in 22k and will satisfy your requirements for coming 3-4 years

Very good config Piyush..justwant to say by just spending 500 bucks extra he can get a Corsair GS600 which is more future proof if a high end graphics card or other components are added later.

@Piyush, Isnt Seasonic 520W(S12II-520) - 3.6K better than VX450?

@CILUS, I think Corsair GS600 costs 1K more...

I'd say spend a little more and get Seasonic S12II Bronze 520w over Corsair VX450. Corsair VX450 is actually a Seasonic OEM and based on the S12II platform.

Corsair GS series doesn't get a recommendation from me because they are not like their VX/TX counterparts. Reliable? yes.

Can somebody confirm me where is Seasonic S12II Bronze 520w available for Rs. 3600?? It is priced at ~Rs. 4100, iirc.

Seasonic S12II Bronze 520w - 3.6k
More like 3700+ if we take shipping into account.

Lastly, it is out of stock on that website. And we should also avoid posting the minimum price everywhere. Prices won't be the same everywhere. :)

Depends again. You might, you might not. Online Corsair CX400 = 2500. Locally in Delhi it is 2900. :?

I honestly can't see Seasonic S12II Bronze 520w being available anywhere for less than 4k. And that too considering their budget SS series 500w costs 3.3k in Mumbai.

seasonic S12II Bronze 520w costs 4k+ everywhere
whether it is mentioned 3.6k on some websites, including shipping and vat makes it to reach 4k pricepoint

and btw corsair VX 450W is a trimmed down version of seasonic 500-520W unit just rated at 450W(i mean it is actually a 500W+ unit)

for future purpose i would recommend VX550 , 500 to 700 bucks more worth a lot (who knows the next gen gpu's are low power consumption or not )

guys, i think OP hasn't mentioned anything about gaming..he won't need hi wattage psu..400w psu from corsair or fsp will be enough to fulfill his requirements..

We will never ever add a GPU or anything else for that matter. We just want raw computing power. Nothing fancy. We will be running Linux, and in fact, most of the time we will be working in console. there will be no graphic display.

So, then, we just need a 400W PSU.

Why not the microATX board - DH6BL? I mean, is there any particular reason for choosing the ATX board (DH6CL) over the micro-ATX board? (Note, as mentioned above, we do not need extra slots.)

Good config indeed. But why should the OP be devoid of a good Case if he has some amount left.
CM Elite 310 at 1.5k will do.
