@Sam
Great work!!!
Btw, the 3rd element of Apple 20-30k should be "Apple 32GB iPad Mini Wi-Fi" and not "Apple 16GB iPad Mini Wi-Fi"...
And, I think 1GB RAM is not a must in case of Apple Tablets for gamers as they have excellent RAM management because of their OS Architecture...

Nexus 7 WiFi only 16GB costs less than 12k on Amazon.in

It's by far the best tablet in that price segment, go for it. If you need a back camera get this:

Re: Tablet Buying Guide

which one to go for? Karbonn Smart Tab 8 or Lava E-Tab Xtron Plus or ASUS Memo Pad ME172V? (budget is 7K, the lesser the better)
usage - reading books, pdfs, watching video clips (not full movies)
good ass is needed.

or go for nexus wifi (inr9999)? is it better than the above?
or wait for ASUS Memo Pad 8 to release here?

after purchasing any one, next one will not be purchased for at least 1 year, may be more.

One Noob question - Wifi only means what? only Wifi? usb data cards (3g / cdma like photon+) can't be used in it?

Re: Tablet Buying Guide

I dont think we have any windows or other OS tabs in this range.
This is for my friend's Dad. No Broadband connection at home so 3G is must. He has some vision problem. So Bigger is better. Wanted to buy the Nexus 7 32GB+3G which i own. But this is out of my budget.
Planning to buy before diwali offers end.

1. Budget? 10-12k
2. Display type and size? min 7"
3. Form Factor? bar, slider, flip? Bar
4. Preferred choice of brand? No preference
5. Preferred input method (QWERTY, touchscreen, numpad, touch-n-type). Touch
6. What camera option you want? Please specify need for flash, autofocus, front facing camera. Front CAM is must; Back CAM is optional
7. Preferred operating system? (Android, Symbian, iOS, Windows Phone etc). Andriod
8. Preferred connectivity options (3G, Wifi etc)Please specify clearly. 3G+Wifi ; Calling facility is optional
9. Primary use of handset (multimedia, camera, mails, internet, gaming etc)? Email ; Web broswing ; Skype ; Movies ; Gaming
10. Any specific mobile phones in consideration? Swipe MTV Slate Tablet
11. Any other info that you want to share None

Sam, need your inputs on this.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 T210 also falls in range and if the tab is not going to be used for heavy apps or gaming, this one looks a bit safer than going for Swipe.

not possible to say. most of the tabs never disclose the chipset rather the processor and rarely the GPU used.

^It's better to buy Lava XTRON only for its IPS display,as XTRON+ has just a LCD display, not an IPS panel LCD.

I myself purchased PiPo Max-M8 Pro from eBay. Hoping to receive the Tablet delivered to me by Today.

According to "slatedroid" Forum, the Tablet is an excellent device with elegant build and promising features + functions, commented by those of whom had purchased and used it.
PPI is 160.58 which may not be the definite best(as it is not having Retina display that comes with higher PPI rates) but much, much better and good display compared to some extravagant Tabs...

Flipkart offers best rates.
Also check local mkts for service centre refurbished, demo units if you are comfortable.
I got nexus 7 32gb @7500 INR. with 8-9 months warranty left. Its unused piece but the battery was dead on arrival so asus service centre replaced it.

It updates automatically when you are connected to net. First 4.3 around 180 MB and latter 4.4 somewhere around 195 MB

You can book Qinda magnetic flipcase from aliexpress.com @ 8 dollar.
I ordered one with hongkong post shipping for which they charge 2.1 dollar extra & was charged 627 INR service charge & currency conversion charge extra. The same flipcase retails@ 1250 here.

I am trying to finalize a budget android tablet between iBall slide 3g 7271 (the older single SIM version, around 7.5K), Micromax P410, Karbonn TA39, and Xolo Q800.
My requirements are SIM support, 3G (on SIM, not dongle), USB port (the plug-in one, not OTG), Wi-fi, Bluetooth. Anything else would be an add-on bonus.

Which of the above 4 do u think would be better? I also looked at Lava Connect+, but the feedback from the stores as well as sites was not encouraging in terms if issues as well as support, so dropped it from my list.

as there are only 2 gen of iPad mini available, so its not fair to say 1st gen iPad mini is outdated. But H/W wise, it is no where near the Nexus lineup (1st gen). If you are getting it close to Nexus 7 price with exchange, get it. But the 2nd gen iPad mini is absolute VFM despite the high price.

Luking to buy a tablet as a gift to dad at the end of this month.
Voice calling, front camera, 3g must.
I did some research and found that these 3 meet my requirements.
HP Slate 7 voicetab
Asus fonepad 7
Lenovo ideapad a3000
I am more inclined towards Hp slate because of the gyro and display, but read a negative review in flipkart regarding network reception.

Is the Nexus 7(2013) still a good deal for tablets under 20k ??
My main requirement is : watching movies( primary ) , occasionally playing resource intensive games like Real racing 3, asphalt 8 (secondary ), and usual stuff-browsing, editing documents,etc..(tertiary).
Also, i read somewhere that the Cellular models can use SIM only for data connection and not for calling purposes..is this true ??

If anyone has Nexus 7( 2013), can they please comment on their experience ? how is lollipop experience on N7 ??
I am planning to buy it very soon..any other good tablets are releasing within the next 2 months ?? Any news of Nokia N1 in india ?? :)

Thanks.

My n7 2012 died in Oct 2014 and I purchased 2013 edition and since then enjoying it. Unlocked bootloader right after purchase and will root it soon.

Budget around 20-22k max. 3g sim card slot a must. OS can be windows or android. Please suggest. Would prefer international brands for good servicing.

i don't think dualsim is possible but look for the upcoming Zenpad 7.

As for avatar, try again. Should be possible now.

Thanks.I'll wait for the zenpad 7.Also i found HP 8 which has 10" and can host single sim with 3g functionality. But the price keeps varying. So i'll wait around a bit to see if i can find the right match.

Don't bother with HP. First of all, unlike laptops, HP tablets are all rebranded with either too high price or too poor specs. And absolutely no update what so ever. Go for Dell, Asus or Xiaomi.

Please recommend a tablet priced around 5 to 6K. Usage - Reading, using a few apps, watch instructional/ educational videos. NO gaming, movies etc.

Popular brands are on android lollipop. Some tablets like swype are offering marshmallow. should that matter?
