Thailand pulls GTA IV after Teenager murders cab driver

Bangkok (Thailand) – Video game stores in Thailand have pulled copies of the popular Grand Theft Auto IV game off their shelves after a teenager murdered a taxi cab driver. 19-year-old Polwat Chino told police he was trying to recreate a scene from the game by robbing a cab driver and then stealing his car. Chino was caught after putting the car in reverse and losing control.

Chino confessed to the murder and reenacted the scene for police and reporters – something that is quite common for major crimes in Thailand. He is described as an avid GTA player who needed extra money to fund his game playing at a local game café. Using 500 baht, or approximately $17, he purchased two knifes from the local Tesco Lotus store and then found a taxi cab in central Bangkok. Chino pulled the 54-year-old driver out, stabbed him ten times and then tried to escape with the car.

Unfortunately for Chino, he didn’t know how to drive a car and accidentally kept pressing the car horn while putting the car in reverse. He told police that he wanted to find out if driving and killing people were as easy in real life as in the game. Police eventually arrived and arrested him.

Chino has been charged with possession of deadly weapons, robbery and murder. He could be put to death by lethal injection.

well for him to be an avid gta fan it'd mean he'd been playin it since when,i'm assuming here but maybe just maybe he's been playing them since 12/13 years old
games aren't rated for nothing and all gta titles were rated mature if i'm not mistaken.the problem with our asian countrys is that we only see sexuallity as inappropriate for minors,let them play violent games who cares as long as there're no nude women or sexualy explicite content in it.
in our region they don't rate films based on violence,rambo 4 was rated R in the US but our bloody censor board showed it to everyone :S
anyways if someone can't distinguish between fantasy and reality that person is a menace to the society

I personally feel it is the violence which affects the young child's psyche more than any explicit sexuality.(skimpy clothes,not s*ual violence).

yeah i'm totally with you,but sadly no one(parents etc.) thinks violence is bad,if a kid is watching a wrestling match its totally cool but if its a film or a programm with one single lip kiss or some woman in a bikini then that kid is gonna get an ear full from his sexually enlightened folks

Governments like these are plain stupid. The person who did this should be sentenced to death and the matter should be closed. We don't need stupid people. Such elements should be eliminated. Instead, they blame games for influencing people's actions.

No sane person would do something as stupid and inhuman as robbing a taxi driver and stabbing him and running away with his car. Only the useless scum in the society would fall for such games and think its "cool" to imitate its events in real life.

But removing the game is no apt solution.
Maybe someother day another retard tries to recreate a movie scene and commits a mass murder then the movie will be shelved ???

There goes 0.1% of their sales, and what good "pulling a game off the shelves" do ? Someone wants to play GTA IV they will find ways, this was probably the most convenient decision that they could make and hence went ahead, never mind the fact that how MANY teenagers are actually killing cab drivers or showing any other forms of violence due to GTA.
