The thing i wanna ask the most is that are there any price cuts expected soon? The last time i bought my N82, 2k was slashed within 2 days :(

DROID isnt coming Anytime soon. Your best bet is to wait for the X10 in January or offerings from Samsung/LG/HTC in Q2,2010

The google phone is a fake actually. Eldar(from M-R) tweeted it recently. Its the Bravo being used by Google to test some applications. Nothing exclusive from google.

Re: Thinking of buying the Samsung Omnia HD

nopes, its a rumor. Nothing confirmed from either of the two sides. there was a rumor a year back about a google phone but nothing. I trust Eldar with this. Android isnt at a stage to actually take on the likes of iphone. Google wont be jumping the gun so soon. They are going to work on implementing more features to the phone. Btw, the specs being leaked is that of the HTC Bravo.Dont count on it. Or you can wait for me to get the X10 and gain feedback. :D

If there is a real Google Phone in the offing, that seems a likely landing page for support.[qupte]

Last line from the excerpt. Dont think they are too sure here either.
And engadget reports crap. It doesnt have have any viability, nor has google/htc given any confirmation.

Re: Thinking of buying the Samsung Omnia HD

Rumors are suggesting the device would be launched by Google in early January, but there's also speculation the Nexus One/Google phone could just be a test device for trying out the latest Android platform. It's also possible that Google could be developing the hardware and software, but wouldn't produce or brand the device. Instead, the company could license its design out to other manufacturers, a very Microsoft-like move.

So will Google be launching a phone next month? The strongest rumors sure seem to be pointing that way, but as always there's no guarantee.

Firm details confirming that Google would launch the Nexus One/Google phone on its own are still pretty scarce . There are also a lot of arguments against Google coming up with its own device. The primary one being that if Google produced its own device, it could scare off or upset Google's Android converts such as Motorola and HTC. Nevertheless, a Google-developed phone could be an interesting addition to the continuing smartphone battle.

Its plain speculation.

Re: Thinking of buying the Samsung Omnia HD

Absolutely. Heres the quote from the blog.
We recently came up with the concept of a mobile lab, which is a device that combines innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features and capabilities, and we shared this device with Google employees across the globe. This means they get to test out a new technology and help improve it.

And heres from Eldar in Twitter.
Hmmm Google Phone is a kind of fake finaly. Just finish conversation with some guy from Google, story looks in other way then it was discuss

Google employees are testing some features of upcoming version of Android 2.1 on HTC Passion which was called Google Phone (=Android phone)

Some rival company used misunderstanding to lauch rumour about Gphone and new business model from Google (which arent true).

Go figure. :D

@Kalpik, IMHO Nokia N900 looks to be more potent than the Droid but one advantage that Droid has is Android. It's penetration into the market will be much faster than Maemo.

Re: Thinking of buying the Samsung Omnia HD

Nokia X6 comes with capacitive touch screen and inbuild 32gig memory :)

360 x 640 pixels, 3.2 inches
16M colors
5 MP, 2592x1944 pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, Dual LED flash, video light
ARM 11 434 MHz processor

The downside is that like most Nokia touch phones, nobody knows when this will be released in India.

Re: Thinking of buying the Samsung Omnia HD

^^what's wrong in it? It is one of the big four that has lot of alternate apps for everything. Moreover, Nokia is comitted to Symbian development and they are not going to pull the plug unlike Samsung which is moving to a new OS every few months.

First java GUI, then symbian, then winmo, then Touchwiz and now BadaOS. They don't have a clear direction.

Motorola on the other hand has committed itself to Android and are scrapping all other projects.

HTC will be using either Android or winmo.

Nokia Maemo and Symbian. only one Maemo phone in 2010 but handful of symbian phones in the queue.

SE: gods knows what they are going to do. UIQ, android, winmo.

My suggestion is to stick to the platform that has a future. And my pick would be either Android or Symbian.

@kalpik- Dont go for a symbian phone.it sucks. Am using the Satio right now and even though most of the UI has been reset by SE to be more user friendly, it still sux. OMG!! Cant wait to get my hands on the X10 this jan. My last Symbian phone ever. :|
About the Droid, you wont be getting it soon in India. It will be bundled with some connection, like the galaxy which is being bundled by Docomo. Y

Re: Thinking of buying the Samsung Omnia HD

Yeah and motorolla has largely withdrawn from Indian operations thanks to it being a miserable failure despite having many good phones.

Reduces chances of getting the product quickly even more.

Odds are by the tim Motorolla Droid is out, the Debian based Nokia N900 will be already in India. Only problem with N900 is its resistive touch screen.

Re: Thinking of buying the Samsung Omnia HD

I have been using HTC Magic for a month now and I find Android a very capable OS. Its has been very stable. There has been absolutely no system freeze till date (unlike Symbian devices). Memory management is exemplary. App. market is loaded with cool goodies. Google has absolutly gone berserk in rolling out goodies after goodies for the market.

IMO give Omnia a skip and go for an Android device.

Google's doing a press release on 5th Jan 10 AM PST (that's 11:30 PM IST).. So we'll get to know more on the 6th..

The phone would cost around 636 USD in India (unlocked), which is pretty decent IMO..

The only advantage Motorola Droid has over SE Xperia X10 is the QWERTY keyboard. Otherwise X10 is simply better in every aspect - battery, camera, video recording, processor, internal memory etc. But it will cost a bomb when released.

Anyways, you'll have to wait till X10 is actually revealed. SE is well set up in India, so if I would have been you, I would have been more inclined towards SE.

Wait for MWC in feb and see all the new devices & then take a decision .. Cos since ur planning to spend more than 25k on a phone its better to wait and then take a wise decision .. :)
Fones which are revealed in MWC generally take more 8-10 months to get realeased. He can't just keep on waiting.

Looks good but i'll vote for a motorola over HTC anyday .

i honestly think androids are way too overpriced in india . though milestone at ~ 30K would be good buy . But nothing can justify HTC's pricing.
