Hello! :)
Please help me out with these two issues:

1. How to completely disable the gay balloon tips? Using registry hacking, not some third party application.
2. How to remove the task bar completely? I don't just want it to auto-hide. I want it to not be there at all. Just pressing the Windows key should launch the start menu but the task bar should not exist at all.

Thank you! :)

1. See point 18 "Restrict Balloon Tips":

*www.thinkdigit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40864

2. For it, u'll hv to use some transparency software or u can use RKLauncher or Rocket Dock. They have feature to completely replace the taskbar with their dock and u can still hv the start button. :)

But I don't want their dock either. I have the real deal already.

Thanks for the help! :) Is there really no solution to the task bar issue?

I had a transparent EXE file in past, which was only a few KB in size (16 KB approx.) and can make the taskbar transparent or totally invisible based upon the settings. So that utility can help you for sure but I can't remember its name. ;)

OK. Here is the thread where I posted about it but I uploaded it at RS and the link is not working now:

WOW! Thanks!

Your link may be dead but I'm sure one of the other applications recommended on that thread will definitely help me get rid of that ugly thing. The registry hack also worked out perfectly. Thank you, thank you so much! :D

Kalpik has posted this link to Glass2k:

This one does the job I wanted done perfectly. :)

One more Q for me .. How to remove the "Windows Secutity Alert" icon..
Vishal Gupta
Sep 6, 2007 at 4:56 PM
^^ Open it from the icon and in left side pane, u'll get an option to customize the alerts (it'll be at bottom) and then uncheck all options there. ;)

PS: I'm on Vista so can't tell the exact options name.

I guess I spoke too soon. Glass2K does not work. :(

Let me look at some of the other options...

I use Transparent Taskbar. It makes the taskbar completely transparent.

Not working. I mean, it does make the taskbar transparent but you can see that it is there. :(

Here is a small utility that i created to hide taskbar...once executed it will make taskbar transparent and wont work in background wasting memory:)......u will need to include it in startup if u want taskbar to be hidden in every session.

I cannot but that little line actually looks pretty good below my menu bar. So I'm glad it remains. :D

Thank you so much, slugger! :)

Still has one problem though. The hidden task bar throws a gigantic shadow beneath it that makes the menu bar look like it is way above the level of the desktop. I can deal with it though; no problem. :)

It is grossly disproportionate, but anyway, it is not too much of a bother. :)

Try to disable the option "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows" from Startmenu and Taskbar Properties.

One question arya, what are you planning to do. You are not using a dock, so how will you access your proggies.

Let me know so even I can thank them, hehehe

I use the original Dock, the one that programs like RKLauncher and ObjectDock try to emulate, Apple's own. How do I use Apple's Dock with Windows? Well, some secrets are better left uncovered. Suffice it to say that you would be needing a Mac for that. :)

Hmmm, I get it.

BTW, Slugger did u mean Alt+Tab. That doesn't make a complete replacement for taskbar. :D

i dont use quick-launch and access system tray not so frequently
so Alt+Tab does a pretty good job 4 me since my taskbar is also hidden ;)

Disable/Remove the Taskbar

The following script saved as removeTaskbar.reg will remove all of the items individually, forcing them not to show up on the desktop.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSetTaskbar"=dword:00000001
"NoTrayItemsDisplay"=dword:00000001
"HideClock"=dword:00000001
"NoToolbarsOnTaskbar"=dword:00000001
"NoTrayContextMenu"=dword:00000001
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000

*NOTE if you wish to have this only applied until your next reboot, run this with:
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000001 instead.

this will keep windows from saving these settings, and the taskbar should reappear on your next reboot :)

**If it doesn't, change all the values to 000000 to disable ALL features, also remove the - from the first path line. This will return the taskbar and it's components.
*NOTE you may have to re-add any toolbars, etc you had previously added to the taskbar.

Thank you, but I've already achieved what I wanted. Turns out, the guys who wrote Parallels Desktop (which I use to run Windows on my Mac) knew that no Mac user would stand the ugly taskbar on his beautiful OS X desktop. So they had the option in the application itself. Bless them! :)
