Hi all!!

Its been a long time since I posted a new thread. So decided to post again once I got a reason.

First the questionnaire :-

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Mostly a bit of gaming. Games like Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed IV, GTA V ( if it comes )

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans:10k-15k

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Nope

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Window 7

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: I have a 500 GB HDD. Dont need amore

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: No. 1366*768, 19inch.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: No idea! ;)

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: After a month or maybe earlier.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Assembler

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Chennai. Anyone is fine.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: This budget is tight , so please dont go above it :( . And should last a long time as it may be atleast a year or 2 before i change again.

Current Config :-

Intel G620 processor
Intel DH61HO
4 GB RAM
Nvida G210
500 Gb HDD
LG ODD
iBall Cabby
Belkin Keyboard/Mouse

Ok, what about corsair vs450? I'm asking as it is cheaper. FYI the budget was reduced to ~10k due some external factors :( . I need to get the GPU, a new SMPS and an adapter( monitor uses VGA connection ) at this budge

By the way, does using an adapter affect the overall performance of the card?

Was reading a review on the hd 7770 and they said it need external power. Is the above smps capable to do that? Do I need anything else for this?

Hi Ashish,

One more noob question but how do you guess/identify that one of your component is bottle necking. How do you determine that the CPU will bottleneck GPU or vice versa.
Thanks...

Check the review of the Graphics card in different sites. Although they use very high end Processors during testing, you'll get a rough idea about how much FPS your card can provide at different games with different settings. For example, in review, you found out that HD 7770 can provide around 40 FPS at 1080P resolution when being used with a i7 3770 and you ar having an i3 3220 Processor. Then expect something like 30 to 32 FPS in your case. Now run Fraps and check actually how much FPS you're getting. If it very low, occasionally goes below 20 FPS, giving you a choppy experiece, then something is bottlenecking the card.

Going to get the gpu this week and have a doubt,

At 1366*768 is the HD 7770 overkill as it see in other threads people recommending cards cheaper than this which can play games at 720p.

Shiva

In gpu demanding games easily you can run it at ultra , you have to tweak setting for games like crysis 3

Thanks for the info.

Shiva

Can you suggest a good free benchmarking tool . I want to measure the performance difference before and after buying the GPU. just for a measure to see how bad the previous card was. ;)

Shiva

play games. that is the best benchmarking software for you. you will feel the difference and do not need to do any other benchmarking unless you want to make world records with that card ;) these softwares push the gpu to the maximum where games do not. so play games you like and be happy. that is my advice.

I would love to do that! But need some concrete proof to show my dad. :| . So need to show the performance increase in numbers.

He is willing to buy the card for me but I'm sure he'll ask me to show how much of improvement there is .That's why.

benchmarking software can sometimes damage cards like furmark is one example.

try 3dmark vantage with performance preset if you really wanted to do.

Ok. Should I do anything after buying the card? Do a " run in" to make it " stable"?

fraps will make the game stuttering. it uses much more cpu power. it will be ok for just show off, but not for continuous play.
