If I upgrade my PSU from 550W to 850W...Should 700VA suffice for 10-15min backup ?

yes its ok.. bt it depends to what all components that PSU is giving current.
so if your config goin to be same and only PSU will be changed.. 700VA wud suffice your need of 10-15min maximum..

Why is APC 1kVA costlier than 1.1kVA ??
pulkitpopli2004
Sep 25, 2012 at 11:13 AM
^^ because
1. 1kVA has auto shutdown feature which lacks in 1.1kVa
2. battery rating in 1kvA is better than 1.1KVa
3. so better back up with 1kVA rather than 1.1KVA

No..I can't able to find APC 1.1kVA in District Center, Janakpuri...Will search in Nehru place...SMC also suggesting 1kVA....(SMC said : 1.1kVA wala ups bakwas h... :) )

Offtopic question : How laptop battery provides 3 hr backup costing just 4-5k whereas UPS can't for the same price ?

^^ In Nehru place it would be easily available. or you can try online also.. but buy only Indian version..

Laptop battery provides 3hrs backup becoz laptop consumes only a 20-80W but in desktop 200 to 800W is required depending upon the configuration.

I came across this post : APC Back-UPS Pro 1000VA (BR1000G-IN) Review

UPS + Extra Battery : Gives around 2+ hr backup but costing around 7.3K + 6.3k = 13.6k (UPS alone can give MAX. 30 min backup)

But Microtek 800VA Inverter gives around 3+ hr backup on same computer + supply to other equipments at home as well ....costing around 5K + 10K = 15K

Which one is the better option for long backup : UPS or Inverter ?

long backup would be better in case of inverter but it cannot provide the uninterrupted power which would be the case in UPS.
using inverter is more risky for PC than UPS.

PS has a much shorter switching time than an Inverter.

Typically, changeover time in inverters is 500 milliseconds & Offline UPS has changeover time of 3-8 milliseconds.

Have you tried the auto-shutdown feature. How good is it?
