If your LapTop is still in Warranty Period, better get the HDD replaced.

I presume, by restart you mean to say - every time you power on your laptop. SMART is actually a standard to improve the reliability of hard drives. It reports issues with the hard disk which can happen due to a lot of reason. It gives a notice like you get due to it. But SMART is not always accurate. It is generally taken as a preventive measure to give you the heads up. So, If I were you - I would probably contact HP given that the laptop is still under warranty and get the hdd replaced.

And yes, backup your important data. You never know....

You can use the "HP PC Recovery CD-DVD Creator" from "Start->All Programs->PC Help & Tools"
