Guys

I have seen many threads crawling @ Digit
But am still confused

I want to purchase a laptop HDD.

Purpose : Conversion to External HDD for Backup & Transfers

Specifications: Must have fast access rates ....Quick Transfers Of files over 5gb
Silent & Cool

Capacity : 100-160 gb

Warranty: Hitachi & Samsung offers 3 yr warranty...So its better to be more than 1 year

Some Q ?

1) Which one should I go For SATA or IDE .....I am getting them into USB Casing ...so it doesn't make a difference

2) Casing ...I am planning to buy a Transcend USB Casing ...dont want Zippys....sorta crappy .....Are there other choices ?

u wud definitely get much better data transfer speed if u buy a SATA-based HDD, but u will also have to buy a supportin casin for it

if ur bro's data transfer needs r speed critical den he shud go for a SATA HDD+casin

but if ur bro wants to do normal data transfer, den i actually find no reason y he cant use a PATA HDD

since d casin has a USB interface, d HDD will always b detected and face no compatibilty problems with future comps

if u buy a SATA HDD 4 ur bro den u will also have to shell out around 1200 for anothr casin

but since u already got a casin, mite as well buy a PATA HDD and save 1200 bux (with d mony saved u can even buy a higher capapcity HDD)

But its nice ...that dumbo neva let me use it ...would have reviewed it here

anyway thanks for ur help.....will be purchasing another one in november...
