Cheaper Internet = more servers.

And Indians need to move on from CS/CS:S.

it would be good if BSNL gives RS. 250 unlimited net. Gaming will take a amazing turn if this happens.

1. Like ico said, guys to need to move on from the stone-age games like CS, quake.
2. Low upload speeds & costly internet. Once, i was so desperate to host an L4D2 server but ultimately, I couldn't move past the campaign mode due to lack of atleast 1mbps upload.

3. Pre-formed gangs. For example, people here hardly invite you to play with them.

4. Lack of proper gaming PCs. People outside have this notion that many of the Indians don't own a decent gaming PC & I too agree with this.

4. Lack of proper gaming PCs. People outside have this notion that many of the Indians don't own a decent gaming PC & I too agree with this.

1.Its not the no. of games that will boost the gaming industry or the new games that will do it as the case of India is concerned. There are already not many gamers out there because of lack of interest, ****ed up pcs and bad broadband connectivity with other issues such as availibilty. Sticking to old games is good coz it increases the crowd and company's interest in holding events. Secondly, Indians are cheap coz they never buy genuine games at all(Ask urself that first - If u buy it then u r a rich spoilt kid.). Why should companies show any interest on pirates.

2.Brother as compared to the world, India's internet is one of the cheapest second to pakistan. In USA a 1mbps broadband connection costs about $65. In india its only about $25. Like I said, Indians want it all cheap still complain about it. And do not forget we are a developing country.

3. Playing with friends only is a kind of every1s habit. Its more fun and nice to play with friends. So if u call it a gang like thugs......lol

4.True true. But who has the money to always upgrade the ****ing pc.

The point is....We have to be cheap because we are not rich like europeans or americans....Paisa bolta hai.

Peace~~~!

Yeah I got more to say.

I have steam for CS1.6. All my friends ask why did u buy it when we can play it for free online and on lan. Can i use urs cdkey. Blah blah as ****. Not a single one of them is poor.

I got a razer death adder with goliathus mouse mat. All of them asked....Why on earth would u buy a 15rs mouse pad for 800bugs. Why????????? R u ****ing insane?

Rest of my games are AOE and NFSMW wich r ofcourse aahum aahum and meant for online playing only.

Yeah and I am happy with India's gaming scenario right now. I dont want company's interest in india's pirate industry for ****ing rules to come up like FUP or ip detection of downloaders or many other laws that is already petitioned or filed for in US courts. That would really suck. It wouldn't be fun if u had to pay for PORN. LOL

Its happy to be really free in democracy.

Peace~~~!

ye thugs kaha se aa gaya ? All I meant was that you will find new, interesting people to play with. Thats how I met my friends. Infact, when one of them is offline, I can call another guy who can occupy the empty slot. Also the new guy may have one particular game which you have but your gang or clan members don't :-o

Samjha ?

Thats y I strictly mentioned low upload speeds. I am ignoring the download speeds right now. There is no service provider in India which will give you upload speeds higher than 1mbps....perhaps reliance but I am not sure & also reliance doesn't have a good repo too. So, because of this problem, the following situation arises:

A: lets play. U host.
B: I can't host. You know my upload speed is even below 512kbps. Let C try.
C: Last time we tried but it lagged. My parents are also not willing to switch to another ISP.
A,B: same here.

C: Forget it...there is also no dedicated server...I am going to play this or that single player game....bye

^^^Arey that point was just funny to me. Who has the patience to ever invite some1 always to a game. It like cum and join. I add people according to their skills and so that i can follow them to rooms. Only clan mates give me invitations. No1 else. You are cho cho cho chweet to invite people over to ur games. But do u really want them to be happy or u want ur server to be full so that u can enjoy.

Waise gang or should i say grouping up part is kinda true. Go visit delhi zapaks. You will know. (Language like - bc mc maar saale ko....kaat bc r.... ko....Ho jaaye sector sector ka clan....bc teri ma na cho.. to naam badal diyo....utth na bc kitna khelega....saale pareshaan na kar nahi toh lun. kaat k haat may de dunga. They will piss you off untill u leave ur pc. Ye kaun hai...Utha na bhaiya ko...aap ghar kab jaoge....jaana..uthh....They keep pushing ur chairs.

Also, If u play cs1.6 then u might have visited NwR servers. I belong to that clan and hell yeah thats exclusive only to pro players. So everythings exclusive and who cares for invites and stuff. You have to be a go getter....LOL.

Peace~~~!

Well thats just me. I invite people when I see on the forums that they too like that particular game. Then, on a daily basis, we tend to have a lot of fun cos our sole aim is enjoyment. Then once, I am comfortable with the new guy, I tell my other gamer friends & the new guy to meet up..say for a lunch or dinner....Thats how I enjoy my life & my games.

What the hell is wrong with persisting with old games if they are classics like Quake III or CS:S? They work faster, have great communities and also well supported.

I agree with everything you've said, but this is totally untrue. You get 4mbps unlimited in $10 in USA.

In Japan and South Korea, you're getting 20mbps unlimited for $25 a month.

And these are cable internet connections. They have good upload speed cuz they're not ADSL.

What the hell is wrong with persisting with old games if they are classics like Quake III or CS:S? They work faster, have great communities and also well supported.
Point is, we've had enough and it's the time to move on.

About the USA thing....I asked a fellow gamer about that who lives in california. He told me clearly its $65 for a 1mbps connection.

Now some google searching facts.....
Site No.1 - $50 to $250 per month for DSL
Site No.1 - $212 to $1200 per month for T1

While i was reading this...It came to my mind....Americas most famous ISP...Comcast....here r the rates and some conditions apply.

$69/month for 6months with dl speeds of 15mbps Limited to 250gb/month with television.

For Korea and japan i think that is true. but they too have download limits.

So FUP is everywhere....I love Mtnl....hehehehe.

Maybe some gamers have enough, but still there are loads of people still enjoying the old classics. Nothing wrong with that IMO.
And CS/CS:S are the most played games on Steam, so it's not an "Indian-only" issue.
The real issue is ignorance of other games. "Gamers" who have no idea of games even like Quake III, UrT, etc. and limit themselves to (cracked copies of) CS/CS:S, AoE, Crysis, CoD etc.

FUP came from western countries. Airtel is specifically saying that in their site (FUP FAQ)..

Anyways, about games, I also purchase all the games I play. At the max it cost around Rs. 1000 for a game which is within my range if I go for one game in a month. For students, it is understood that not all parents can afford this "unnecessary" expenditure, atleast my parents couldn't.

BTW we have a separate thread in which we discussed about speeds people get in various countries and the price too. I think everyone said that it is cheaper out there. I am not sure about it though. When I asked my friends who went abroad, they said rent for high-speed internet connection was paid in the maintenance cost itself as it is a basic feature every house has, apart from electricity, gas and water.

Okay first of all, I will buy the reason the gaming in india sucks, because of lack of Exposure to a thing called video gaming, Mediocrity that is making the term technology an Oasis.

Yes, we need to grow up. For god's sake.. kids use to play NES until 2000 (incl. me) and now they are thinking that PS2 is future proof and will serve them in long run. Situations like this is not same everywhere, but in 2nd grade towns like the one i'm living in, situations like this are prevalent.

And for you all, who think that Games in india are dead cheap when compared to other countires and still people are pirating stuff, is because of several reasons.

1. I live in a town where most of the computers in houses are not connected to internet and where there is not even a single store that offers genuine games. So, their chances of getting a genuine game is willy nilly.

2. Most of the people who are buying stuff from local dvd vendors dosen't even know that it is against the law.

3. GDP percapita of US is 47000USD, but india has merely a 1000USD percapita. So, we can't expect people in india to buy games like they are doing in US. yes, distributors are reducing the prices for indian market.. But still the situation is not black and white. There are shades of grey. This is not only evident from the sale of video games, but the power of PCs they own, number of people who owns a camcorder/digicam/PMP, No. of people that stay networked, etc. An average american arries nearly 150-200$+ 3,4 Debit cards in his wallet. How many indians carry 10000rs in thier wallet!? So there is a great chasm to cross, don't compare other countries with ours. Gaming situation in india is quite different from other counties and we can't jump into conclusions THAT easily.

We need not to move on from CS, CS: S, infact if we compare the ratio of the people in other countries who are playing CS,CS: S, our population will stand low. Why moving on if you are having fun!? Just to make the country's videogame industry better? The question only arises on the day they grow tired of the game. Or if they meet something more awesome than what they are playing. Until that day, let them play the games they are playing.

@ Varnub,
And playing a game online/offline with buddies is no meter for comparing the level of gamer inside a human being.

@goken,

AT&T is the most famous ISP in USA. Next comes Vierzon Fios/DSL. Comcast has a wide subscriber base, but they have some bad reputation.

And, I've got nothing against you, but before that 60$ thing... please go through this link..

@ico, yea most of the charge is for their goodwill, 24/7 support, Land line.. stuff like that.

@varnub,

Isn't the situation self explanatory? Playing with buddies purely depends upon one's personal interest and is their choice. We can't judge how good gamer they are based on their Multiplayer interest. I haven't played much of Co-Op/ Multiplayer.. and still have a big heart for gaming. And If one is do playing online/offline with buddies, thats not to say that he is a good gamer. There are exceptions for both the cases. Multiplayer aspect will only tell what kind of gamer they are, but we can't decide whether they are good or bad in gaming.

Maybe gamer, but how a gamer fares in multiplayer actually judges his quality as a player. ;)

Feb 16, 2011 at 7:59 PM
See, thats the problem. Gaming is not about proving to some one that you rock or to show off your talents or to be a ultimate weapon or to be a quality player. I just play games, and will not worry about my talents or how good I am when compared to others. All that matters is whether I am having fun or not.

And many online players will go though a lot of frustration initially to get used to the setting. And when they master... they start to have fun, not because they are good at game, but because they proved something to others. Its completely different way of thinking, and is not bad at all. It just differs from person to person.

When I said gaming with buddies only, I meant in context about online gaming, cooperative campaigns, versus or team matches. In short, exposure to people outside. Seclusion won't get anyone anywhere. My point is about online gaming with widespread exposure which is one of the situations in the pathetic gaming scenario in India.

I hate to break this to you,

GDP should not be used to assume things like unemployment. Higher GDP with higher unemployment only tells how solid the people are earning. And it should only used to measure income of the people and not for assessing things like unemployment, health, etc. Actually it is a bit weird. Take it this way... USA's GDP comprises more than 17% from health care sector. This means, if the people's health increases, there will be 17% reduction in GDP and will create plenty of unemployment.

And what does 9% unemployment tells me? it tell me that US companies are opting for flat organizational structure rather than tall, they are choosing to outsource coz of cheap labor, and a simple logic named population. Increase in the population will not always increase the employment opportunities, so.. with the recent population growth, the percentage increases(As the population count increases but the people who are working will still remain the same).

So, this tells that.. USA is earning more GDP even with 9.8% Unemployment. Which indirectly tells us, people who do the job are earning well. And there is the another reason, people in most of the developed countries will choose to be idle instead of doing a underpaid job.

And about the contract... well, long term contracts are what keeping the prices low.

You should leave the denial. We are specifically talking about prices of internet. Even on a contract, their prices are much much much lower than what they are in India.. or in Pakistan. I just quoted verizon because.. i was in haste and wanted to show the cheap rates. there are several independent ISPs(who doesn't even have a proper website) in USA which provide high speed internet at dirt cheap prices, when compared to India.

@Faun: I agree with vamsi here. Anyways, everyone here has something to say about this. You talk about GDP while I mentioned what I have been observing about the online behavior of the gamers. Simple. That doesn't means GDP should be included. Your point & mine's is a completely different aspect.
