In XPSP2
WUs are located here in unknown file format...

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Copy all them to a folder and change their extension to .EXE and/or .CAB and look which works.. then backup them.

Microsoft periodically gives free CDs for all WUs... but there's no such CD after SP2...

I think there are 3-4 hotfixes after Sp2... check them all a WindowsUpdate.com

change your AutoUpdate option to ->
"Notify me but don't automatically download or install them"
it'll give a list of updates available with respective links to their info
