Even I am planning to buy one. I heard the transfer speed of up to 5 Gbit/s (625 MB/s), which is more than 10 times as fast as USB 2.0 (480 Mbit/s, or 60 MB/s).

WD external drives(USB 3.0) are very slow, suggest staying away, go for Adata or Toshiba if you can(USB 3.0)

Hopefully their HDDs are better, 3.6K is a pretty good price.

Any personal experiences with Buffalo HDDs and ASS? Also is there any place I can get a 1TB drive for ~5K?

No, none, cause not a lot odf peeople buys buffalo hdds, better off with Seagate/WD/Toshiba, see my review here: *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/reviews/152400-adata-sh14-750-gb-usb-3-0-external-hdd-review.html

WD USB 3.0 drives are slow as hell, Seagate is faster. Adata/Toshiba are fastest.

See my review posted above. I have one myself and I'd also seen reviews, these drives are slow for USB 3.0, seagate are faster, adata/toshiba is fastest.
