Hi guys ...

I am looking to get a bike soon ( within next month ) for daily City usage. till saturday, Honda Stunner was my first Choice, but then on saturday, i saw My friends new Yamaha FZ16, and it brainwashed my mind. I mean i havent seen a beauty like this before. Every Inch of that Masterpiece was world class. At first i didnt give that much thought coz i knew that my folks will never allow me to spend so much on a bike, but surprisingly ...they seem to be less resistent with the idea and i think i can work it out in the favour of my new found love:D.

So wat i want to ask ... is this bike worthy of its price ... i mean i knw its of world class standards (yamaha did it right this time), but i have to pay 15k extra if i choose this over Stunner....will the overall gain be enuf to justify the price. I dont care about it coz I like it and price doesnt matter over personal choice...but still to convince my parents i have to give some good points.

Also ... i am nt macho looking or muscular hunk... i am of average height ( 5' 9" ) and a bit over weight (72 kg, a bit over thn ideal weight around waist) ... so will this bike (Fz16) will suit my personality ? Or am i better off with Stunner ??

Pour in ur suggestions guys ...

thnx.

HNP:well,I am biased towards stunner,honda fanboi.:p.

I have seen both the bikes and I really don't think f16 look that good, stunner aint any bad looking either. There is a price difference of about 15k which isn't justified tbh in my POV.Stunner is the better city bike for everyday usage.11bhp@125cc is remarkable and I think the person who said something about gearbox and engine has no fooking idea what he is talking about,Honda is teh best in that department.

oh and BTW wait for the yellow stunner, like I am.

if fz16 is 70k+ on road, i think yamaha screwed up again.

its a 150cc bike & should stay in its class, pricewise.

heck, ppl will think like this- "i get oil cooling + bigger engine+ higher top speed+ loads of features on pulsar 200, why waste money on this bike".

pulsar 180 costs ~ 64k:lol:
fz16 should have been priced at 65k on road.

Looking at the number of R15s on the road, I have no doubt that FZ-16 will also be popular. The former is also 150 cc but costs much more (nearly a lakh).

stunner costs around 59-61k in mumbai and looks sporty but a little unrefined (the performance is gonna be fine coz its Honda).

However FZ-16 looks much better and refined now if only it had been priced around 65-70k it would have been a steal. that said if u can afford it then definitely go for FZ-16.

FZ-16 is 68k onroad and R15 is 103k onroad here in jhansi. I would say FZ-16 is definitely worth the price if u compare it wid apache which is selling for 64k. Stunner is gud if u wanna save that 15k of extra cash.

ok, if thats the case, honda should charge a premium:lol:
p200 was the best looking bike i guess.
wide tyre, for what? just looks:p, look at the mileage, its the lowest:|
new bike gives 40-45, then in a year you'll get about avg. of 35kmpl:lol:

if looks is all you want, then i guess yamaha have sucess in sight.

btw, r15 hasent sold much, in chennai.

r15 = costly = justified, coz its yam's flagship model, most powerful+advanced.

i thought fz16 was yam's turning point, a true competition in 150cc class.

compare p200 & fz16 side by side. p200 has more features, similar mileage & still cheaper. (74k @ chennai)

yamaha certainly can make the fz16 come under 150cc price range.

How much BHP does the F16 offer? RPM? Torque? I do NOT think it is overpriced.. R15 is 150 cc as well, there are other thing rather than cc.

Can anyone exactly tell me the significance of all the terms like Torque, etc.. all those bike/car terminologies.. Any good online reference? Aint through with some of the particulars.

And R15 is a bike selling like hot cakes here.. Is it manufactured by Yamaha India? The Indian fork never made such cool bikes..

omg. don't say that! gladiator better than stunner!!!!,gladiator is just gross.

I said initially, there isn't much comparison between fz16 and stunner, they are not the same category. And TBH fz16 IS NOT very good looking,p200 is far better looking.

Stunner has NO major drawbacks in its category while fz16 is grossly over-priced in its category.

Now if you have the money than definitely go for fz16(except that its milegae sucks comparatively and yamaha service is just pathetic everywhere).Though If I had that much money,I would have preferred p200 or karizma.

well. torque is also known as turning effect and more the torque more will be acceleration of the bike (or car whatever it is) at lower RPM even with higher gears like 4th and 5th without the jerks and chain snatch .

BHP(Brake Horse Power) is also known as power which the engine can generate and it determines the max speed and acceleration of the bike
Some vehicle manufacturers mention power of the engine as Kw (kilowatt) .

1 BHP = 0.746Kw

so 14 BHP of FZ-16 will be 10.44Kw

RI5 is 150cc but it generates 17BHP of power while FZ16 generates 14BHP .

the thing that is done is to change the cam timings and tune the gears and crankshaft of the engine to generate more power(BHP) or Torque (nm) on the expense of fuel economy.

i think no need of online reference now :D

Why does one need to accelerate with higher gears that too @ Low RPM?? One would gradually shift to higher gears when the adequate RPM is reached.. Isnt it?

I know the HP=> kW conversion factor.. :p But still did not get how BHP determines BOTH speed and acceleration..

Pre-release reports said R15 to generate 20 BHP @ xyz RPM.. 17 BHP would be same as Karizma.. :? And FZ16 is more powerful than Pulsar 180cc that means..

Whats the significane of CC? It is the max. amount of air-fuel that can be pumped into the engine at a time isnt it?
They say that the life of an engine will be less if BHP is increased while CC is kept low. Like that of R15?

@utsav : thanx for insightful info:)

i dnt understand y u ppl saying that FZ16 is overpriced .... U cant judge a bike only by its engine capacity i.e. all 150 CC bikes shld be in this price bracket and all that ... i agree that FZ16 is a 150 CC bike .. but still its top speed is greater than P180,P200 and even new Karizma .... FZ16 tops at 135-140 ( as i have read in online user reviews) and Karizma at 125-135 (same source) .... and the looks, handling, riding comfort, staring eyes with gaping mouths ..there are added Bonus :D:D:D

dude when u drive for long durations in heavy traffic then even shifting gears is a pain in a$$ (oops i mean foot :D) .try to ride a low torque bike in heavy traffic . u will get tired soon shifting the gears and pressing the clutch lever again and again which u wont face wid high torque bikes

yup 150cc means 150cc of air + fuel mixture will be entering the combustion chamber in a single combustion cycle .

They say that the life of an engine will be less if BHP is increased while CC is kept low. Like that of R15?

150cc engines can produce much more power :p R15's engine life aint small. a test was conducted in yamaha test lab where the engine of R15 was run at full RPM and it ceased after a continuous run of just over 400 hours which proves the reliablility of its engine. R15 is a race bred bike (but not a racing bike) and it needs to be reliable coz its made for common people to ride on streets and not racetrack by racers :D:p

Any good example of a low torque bike, which is common.. ? Splendor, etc are understandable. But any new bike with shamefully low torque for its other specs?

^^ Karizma goes till 140..

no dude. its 125Kmph measured using vbox 2 racelogic device which gives accurate speeds.it uses GPS for speed measurement .

P180 goes to 128Kmph

R15 is 145Kmph

initial accelaration of karizma is high but it loses out to R15 after 75- 80kmph The speedometer of every bike gives errors by 5 to 10Kmph and sometimes 120 :D once i even saw a bike running at 10kmph showing 130Kmph on speedo :D .Remember even digital speedos of pulsars, apache ,R15 and FZ16 too do give errors.

Nov 1, 2008 at 11:22 AM
^^ Oh.. A guy in school had one. And I dont think he'd lie about it. Maybe it was the same error factor which caused the speedometer to say 140?

And my my, pulsar's engine seems pretty efficient.. My friend who has a 220 said the max he could get was 130.. Maybe some error?

torque=pulling power/capacity of a vehocle to pull certaibload.

ride a splendour(100cc bike), with a fat pillion:p, that bike will struggle to pull, try the same on 150cc (i.e., more torque) bike, it pulls efforltlessly, even in 2nd gear from standstill.

this is why, suv's/trucks... use diesel engine, even tho they give much less pwr output, it gives more torque than petrol counterpart...

the high torque in fz16 will translate into more whellies:p, nothing more.

i'd still say fz16 is overpriced & that overpricing is not justified.:|

hero honda engine are very sensitive & it wont last for ever
Ur Joking I think ?
And About the bike i think he Decided for the FZ16 gud choice in End.
stunner in Europe is sold as CBF125 (with Fi) mainly the buyers r teens of 14-17 aged who get superbikes in there 18teens and racin..

About the 150cc factor the diff between the r15's engine and fz16 is a simple as an OVERCLOCKED Proccesor which gives u standard 2.4 ghz (p4) but when overclocked with liquid nitrogen cooling such that it can achieve 4ghz..(approxx) so the engine in R15 is tweaked with Liquid (oil) coooling sum changes in Cam's got moore valves etc... thats it ;)

and fz's 16 top speed is 113..kmph approx and r15's 136 appx
and every bike sold doesnt give u exact speed on Console there r sum errors at 2-5kmph and u may achive higher speed than 113 kmph on fz16 when the back ward wind is supporting u and ur on a sloped road at that particular time

So.. Many Factors influence that ;_

he's right:p

honda engines are best till its used by single user.

honda engines are not like yamaha/suzuki/tvs engines, whcih can take a lot of beating & still be smooth (a bit).

Hero Honda or Honda?

i already posted abt the speed and engine power factor lot b4 :p
and r15 reaches upto 145kmph (real speed tested wid v-box 2 racelogic gps speed testing device)
.

I drove 211 km in 4-5 hrs on my Zeus between 11 - 3/4 am in the last month. Back and forth on Link Road. But I wasn't addicted. Just bored. :D

biking is a awesome way to kill boredom :D. And yea seems u r addicted :p :D

Hero Honda or Honda?

hero honda uses honda engines:p:p:p

even the cbz extreme is powered by the slighltly tuned unicorn unit:lol:

go ask any one who has some riding experience, honda engines are best suited for single hand use.
absolutely no rough use for honda, if u do, efficiency goes down. but yamaga engines can be red lined by many & still they'll feel same.

give your honda to some reckless riding friends of yours, & then you ride it. the engine will kinda feel loose.

do a re-bore on a honda engine:lol:, the engine all of a sudden feels nooby:p.

yamaha/bajaj engines can be re-ored like 2-stroke units.

==========
@FZ16 buyer, did you book it yet?
give some details here.

I can say that this is the worst time period of my life .... nuthing is going right ... The Bike was a welcome distraction ...but alas !!!

tell your folks that fz16 is most advanced bike (show 'em the digital speedo+tacho:p), tell them this bike uses a "throttle positioning system" [add you stuff here:p- u can say it increases fuel economy ~55kmpl:p], tell them the monoshock is the best, the 100cc & 125cc bikes's suspension will give more trouble on long term, while this bike wont.......

@harryneopotter
congo bro
and sorry guys i was off the forum for some 2 months...had to move to hostel for the sem xams. thnk god, im back.

by the bike, me too ve got a new FZ16, now almost 1.5 months old.
got to point out some +&-

let me start with -
- nightmare for pillion riders, especially women who sits sideways.
-luks ugly with a tall person on it.
-no ladies handle, footrest on saree guard, crash guard support....etc
-bad mileage for enthusaiastic kinda riders. will get around 30 for full over throttle kinda riding. Around 40 for occasional over throttling and avg speeds around 60~70. And around 50 is used carefully and speed maintained b/w 40~45 without slight over revving.
-mileage is very much sensitive to riding style.
-no place for holding ny stuffs. for other bikes, notes/books can he held under the visor. and ladies handle has some kinda hook for most others.
forget these two in FZ16.
-handlebar and riding posture is not suited for long rides. Max bout 100~120KM.
-dial luks inferior to those in Hunt, RTR FI etc.
-gearbox not designed for high speeds even though bike is stable enuf at high speeds.
-its Yamaha.

+great pickup even with the wider tyres.
+unmatched handling and maneuvering. Maneuvering thru traffic is fun, where P220s and R15 is strugling.
+gud road grip, and far better stopping distance than pulsars/unicon etc.[larger disc too]
+bike built for stunts.
+cornering was never so easy.
+attention magnet.
+sound is much refined, but is really nice at higher gears when throttling.
+Its Yamaha.
+Its Yamaha.

thinking of writing a review, a detailed one.
