hi everyone, i have shortlisted 3 cards - hd 6870, gtx 560 ti and hd 6950. I am totally confused regarding which one to buy. can anyone suggest (mentioning the exact brand, model and approx price in kol would be very very helpful). my pc config is as follows -
c2d e8400
4GB dual channel ddr2 ram (800Mhz)
xfx 680i lt sli mobo
cm silent pro M700 PSU
corsair 400R cabby

hoping to buy asap, maybe even tomorrow, if i can decide.

Here it is- MSI R7870 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC

Priced at 22.1k , performs nearly to 7950. Wait for the price drop though.

7850 would be some where 3-4k less I suppose.

At your budget the best option would be to wait for the release of the remaining nvidia kepler cards so that the price of the 7850 will fall.

But that could mean a long time since they are going to be released in the upcoming months and they will be only available in India after there is sufficent supply and stock of these cards.

So at present I feel the 6950 2gb will be the best option for you(if you cannot wait and if you cannot extend your budget to get the 7850). It can run almost all games at 1080p at highest settings.

my monitor res is 1360 x 768. i think the 6870 will see me thru comfortably in most games.

At 1360x768, HD 6850 is also enough. :)

if someone has the budget it's better to opt for the best gfx card he/she can afford regardless of monitor resolution IMO.

@ OP - try to get HD 6950 1GB Twin Frozr III Power Edition OC @ ~15k or Sapphire HD6950 1GB @ ~14k.

i want to, but the ~200W power consumption is a big drawback. compared to that, 7850 is much better @ 130W. saw the benchmarks at anandtech - impressive, i'd say.

AnandTech - Bench - GPU12

so, i think i'll get a 6870 for now.

acc to the link above HD6950 consumes only 41W more than HD7850 which is not a big deal considering the PSU you have but if you want to go with a HD6870 then consider getting R6870 Twin Frozr II ;-)
