Is there any website using which we can send SMS to USA for free. I tried couple of them from the google results but none of them is working. Does anyone know about any site which offers this service?

try www.wadja.com you can also register your mobile so that receiver gets your number as sender, just as if you are sending the SMS from your cell.

But there is one problem. My friend in US gets charged for receiving SMS on his mobile. It's strange in US they have things like incoming/outgoing minutes per month etc. Whereas in India we are not charged for incoming nor are we charged for receiving SMS. STRANGE!
