I suggest getting a good pair of spectacles or contact lenses first. Then he can use any phone without worrying.

On the android side there is an option to increase the overall font size which is a huge boon for people who have a weak eyesight.
Also, there are many other options and apps in the 'accessibility tab' in android which actually adds options like magnifying glass, talk back feature, voice command to make calls or open any app etc.

These options make android extremely friendly to operate for people with disability. Make sure you get atleast kitkat 4.4 or the latest android to be on the safer side.

I also remember reading somewhere that even people who are actually blind are able to operate android mobiles because of those apps and accessibility feature.

I can't really recommend windows mobiles for people with disability. Reason is that there app base is quite limited(don't mistake mobile OS with windows desktop OS). Although, I have not used a windows mobile. Still, I would recommend you to pick up an android for your brother.

Xperia and Samsung don't really make much difference as long as they support/ come with the latest android OS. Almost all android mobiles comes with accessibility options.
You can also check out Motorola mobiles with "google now'. Basically, some mobiles come with a hardware feature that activates the mobiles when you speak a particular word. You even don't need to open the mobile to use it. If I were you, I would have definitely looked seriously for that feature for someone with severe eyes problem.

Just get a 5 - 5.5" device & increase font size. That should do. No need for Note 3 or Z Ultra

Dear Saiyan, I don't know what you mean. Where is the questionnaire?
My brother is fourteen years old (He is going to attend a boarding school far from family so that is the reason why I want to give him a new phone)

Well, I can see windows too have got options for accessibility. Although, I still would prefer android as it is much more developer friendly. So, there are many other revolutionary 3rd party apps that are compatible along with default android apps.

Also, android have a huge app base. More often android is the first one and sometimes only the one to get a new feature or app compared to windows.

And lastly, android have much better gaming support and options on mobiles compared to windows mobile OS. Microsoft is also very slow in introducing new features unlike android.

If I were you, I would have definitely kept the new app and feature support in one of my top properties as flexibility is more important for me rather than be limited with the default apps.

Thank for your suggestion, kunalgujarathi!
I will consider it.
However, I wonder whether Samsung or Sony is better brand name for smartphone than OPPO?
Personally, I thought I should choose a smartphone from Sony or Samsung. My budget can go up if neccessary.:)

If you go with brand name, you loose performance and since your brother likes gaming on a phone, Oneplus One/Mi4 with 3 GB ram and SD801 are much much better than any sony/samsung phone for the budget.

Sony has entry level phones at midrange prices. While samsung has upper entry level phones at upper midrange prices. OPO, Mi4 are flagship level phones (at least in performance) at midrange prices.

Omg! What are you suggesting?
You want to buy a Chinese phone for slight improvement in performance?
Please, for that kind of budget, refrain yourself from buying any Chinese brand.

People don't understand why quality is more important than slight bump in performance.

*forums.oneplus.net/threads/touchscreen-issues-fix.314410/

This is what often happens when you buy cheap Chinese brands.
The oneplusone have a hardware display problem which results in ghost/phantom touch problem after some time. The company can't have released a patch to reduce sensitivity of touch screen which still left more than 50% users display problem unresolved. The company doesn't want to accept it as a hardware problem because it would be a huge financial burden on them. The customers are the real losers. They got what they paid for.

Don't listen to people who recommend buying a Chinese brand. Because they won't be standing in front of the pathetic service center for your problem.
Better go with some known brand like Sony, Samsung, lg or Motorola at the lowest.

:-? I made my final decision yesterday. However, I haven't bought this phone yet.
Now I am confused! Which is the best choice?
I think I have to consider carefully again.

Dont simply generalise for the heck of it
The fact that you said Samsung and Sony proved your bias
not all chinese brands make bad products
OPO makes good quality products

Also its ridiculous that you assume Samsung had better products and phones than a chinese brand
if you actually owned both and experienced them you would say otherwise

Also in India, dont expect ASS from ANY brand , unless its Nokia/MS, Dell , Asus

Dont pay much attention to him
He is simply generalising

Normally I never recommend Chinese brands but One Plus is an exception
they really have top notch quality unlike other chinese brands such as Huawei,Xiaomi etc

Also the fact that he assumes there wont be after sales issues with the brands he mentioned is ridiculous
Ive had pathetic after sales from Samsung in the past , even their product quality is poor

I have no intention of making it a dog fight on whether cheap Chinese brands like oppo oneplus one etc or better quality known brands are better.

I have just posted a link from there own site of the actual users experience. There are many other forums mentioning the same but I have not linked them because I knew that people would have rejected them.

I guess some people would never get convinced. I have no intention of wasting my time further on proving why a pathetic brand is pathetic.

Anyhow, My advice would be to go with known classic brands. Check for problems beforehand on the internet itself. Then decide which is good or bad. Accepting claims from people that Chinese brands are good is stupidity. They are usually not good. While known brands are usually not bad.

Remember, Quality claims and actually using quality components are 2 different things. Rest is up to you.

All over internet reviewers are praising one plus one.

@OP I would suggest you to get one plus one you are getting flagship level performance at one third price of flagships.
