If I upgrade only the CPU, will I lose activation?

I do not want to use Microsoft account.

If you have OEM key, I heard you will lose it with mobo change.

Retail keys linked to MS account is the most convenient.

It is retail key but I do not want to go the MS account route. It seems I have no avenue then.

Some posts seem to suggest that only CPU change is fine.

Just reinstall & enter the key again?

It won't change in a CPU upgrade. You'll be fine.

If it's a custom build, then you'll only need the retail key for a fresh install of windows. So all you have to do is pop out your old CPU, add your new one, and that's it.

OK. I will go for it soon then. Price of 5700G which I was eyeing seems to have gone down to around 21 K now.
