This week, Microsoft unveiled one of Windows 7’s new features, which will allow games and other DirectX 10 and 10.1-based applications to run fully accelerated on obsolete graphics hardware, and even on systems with no graphics acceleration at all.

This is good news. But i think in one go it will be not much successful (As u need high end processor and it is costly) . But it will help people to play game .Hope further development is done in this context

hmmm.... But then to run Windows 7, minimun requirements would be >3GHz processor, >4GB RAM, .............

What? crysis without gpu. I'm totally shocked. This means that higher hardware requirements :-|

but that means great news for other games not as demanding as crysis.people would be able to play fifa, pes or cricket series long after their cards become obsolete

the feature uses your cpu power to work like graphics card, so its not that efficient as graphics card. you'll get just a few fps even on the latest graphics card, leave the world of high resolution to discuss.

gaming in Windows 7 is better than in Vista.NFS Undercover runs smoothly without any probs in Windows 7 but in Vista the fps drops randomly

First (6) they enforce it, now they say its not needed (7). GPU industries might get a little angry.

 I'm confused. This comes into rescue only when our onboard graphics or dedicated GPU card fails and when this happens the port(analog/dvi) which takes the video signals to our monitor also would be rendered useless I guess. In that case how do we get our monitor connected to the cpu without a GPU unit?

Too good to be true, it'll be more like CRAWLsys rather than crysis.

Instead of posting lame comments, try to read original article at MSDN.

^^ True...

*msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd285359.aspx

It actually makes sense, so it might not be crawlsys after all, though how effective it would be remains to be seen. Perhaps MS would demonstrate with a sample video.

^^ the sample videos may be tricky unless it shows some rendering details on how they manage to cramp that heavy duty work of a GPU to a simple 3Ghz processor, and BTW i r gonna test this thing via the pre-beta release build 68xx by this weekend.

You are right buddy, the frame rate will be so low, that ultimately this thing will turn out to be a joke, until intel releases processors with integrated GPU..

It's nice news, but even the Core i7 965 Extreme scores a pthetic 7.xx frames, at 800x600 and medium settings. It just manages to beat Intel's IGP.

Anyway, isnt Windows 7 slated for release in 2010? by then most PCs will have better configs.

That's what they assumed when they launched Vista. But I'm really hoping Windows 7 will be worthy of being my primary OS. :-|

I guess MS didnt expect XP to quickly adapt to new hardware, leading to a lukewarm reception for Vista. I mean, 2 GB RAM and 8800GT can run with greater effectiveness on XP than on Vista.
Looks like Windows 7 attempts to fix this. :D
