Computer needs a through disk check.
Use a XP disk to go into recovery console, and try following command.

chkdsk c: /f

Replace C with the drive, on which the XP was installed.

Highly probable your HDD is failing. Run an error check using HDD Tools.

Or maybe you should try repairing Windows XP by following the detailed steps on this link - Repair Windows XP by Performing a Repair Install (Part 1 of 2)

for me it looks like a corrupt driver. Start the system in Safe mode and check. if it boots, then its a driver issue.

We need to get the bug code.
Boot the system and keep pressing the f8 key.
You will be presented with advanced bootup menu
From there choose the option "Disable automatic restart"
Boot again, you are likely to get a blue screen.....
Post back the bug code[hex dec number]

But its most likely a failing drive.....
