Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) provides new proactive security technologies for Windows XP to better defend against viruses, worms, and hackers along with increased manageability and an improved experience for users. Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 fixes a range of bugs in Windows XP. It doesn't matter what XP updates you have previously applied to your system, SP3 will update any unpatched, partially patched or completely updated system (it includes all previously released patches and updates). XP SP3 fixes the security holes so you won't get attacked.

It is meant for approved bete testers only..but the file is already flooding in the p2p world.Public beta will be out shortly

Nothing, u can continue to use it till 2012 if u like. Just that Microsoft will not make frequent security updates for XP after the support is over. What do u think they will keep on making updates for a 10 years old OS still ? (win 98 here)

When Sp3 is not officially out, it has to be a beta tester's pradise :D , but its not legal to post links here like that of a illegal thing... (its illegal to distribute the package without its official release)

somethings discovered : the shutdown time is just 3 seconds and startup is much faster, some unwanted services are also removed.. :)

Nopes..the download link wasnt from microsoft..its hosted on a file sharing website..so Shantanu did the right thinng.:)..I kinda forgot that fact

The sp3 rc1 is legally available through MSDN for the subscribers I think.
Get it from there if you have a subscription or you can PM members who happened to have the link..

Startup and shutdown times may not be that different from the latest and the oldest..when i made a switch over from my old to new ,there Wasnt much diff in either time.
So this shutdown and startup should be universal only with very slight delay in older ones.anyhow all that matters is,for the most of time, even in SP2 it was fast except for sometime where it will hang for no reason, may be we will hope that kinda things dont appear with SP3.
For visual change why dont yöü try, royale theme,or zune themes, which are official and only 2 mb ..
I think the like is not illegal...
Even we had link to vista rc's here...
Since its from the ms..its not illegal..
I think may be a word of caution can be given for the newbie's ...about the uncertainity about the software.
I dont see any anything illegal by posting an link from the official source.

bcoz Service packs are not supposed to contain GUI Changes. They are just pack of updates and a few new features. ;)

Hey i heard that this particular release of sp3 contains only the updates post sp2. Nothing more. So someone who keeps his system on automatic updates need not download and install this. Is that true?
Vishal Gupta
Nov 23, 2007 at 9:59 PM
^^ Nope. Thats not true. There are some additional features too.

i dont think microsoft will stop supporting Xp next year cos in that case its no use taking out SP3.

what i have read somewhere is that next year microsoft will stop selling XP.

yeah maybe nxt year you may nt be able to buy.. i dont care ;)

but know what, windows 2000 SP4 was also realeased barely a year ago.. :)

so its no criteria saying that MS will support it more cuz just released a new SP...

maybe its giving users a farewell, a last gift :D

Xp is their money making machine right now.so until vista gets a firm grip in market..they wont stop..selling.
My guess.
But coupled with gates leaving next year, who knows what will happen
R
Nov 25, 2007 at 10:37 PM
they must hurry up windows vienna.

they must remove support for xp coz even the basic vista sells for 2wice as xp.so they must iron out the pitfalls in vista and let's say develop a new software only for vista like ie8 or new visual engine which will hype vista sp1 again.
