Although xp is supposedly the most trouble free flavour of windows I have to cope up with a host of class-issues with my system. hear me out and see if u can help me.

Problem#1
Whenever i restart/turnoff windows without closing session(without logging off), the next time i get to the same user acc, the start menu bar looses the cool blue color and themes(desktop properties) show only one available theme (classic). On a fresh install the theme obviously returns. If i go ahead with backing up the resources/theme folder(copying elsewhere) and restarting it again, then when i loose the theme and on replacing the folder i get the theme back. Help!

Problem#2
I installed kapersky antivirus trial version from the digit madia, After the trial period ended when i tried to uninstall it, i discovered the isu file was missing. I tried to delete manually but the os did not allow that. Now a Kav process is permanently reciding in memory and is not letting me install norton 2005 which i happen to have a full version of.

Problem#3
Whenever i close a window(of explorer),the system slows down trememndously and the entire ram probably gets defraged. i am saying this because the desktop refreshesw, the start menu refreshes and any application in back or foreground crashes.Only when i close a folder not open it. This is actually pretty peculiar.

Problem#4
If i cold boot my system in dire situations(U know what i mean), then my user account dets corrupted on next boot. ie I have to re personalise all settings and preferences are lost.

I have performed reinstallations of all kind so many times that the winxp cd key has adhered to my memory permanently(fckg6w...).I have 256 mb sd ram . P3 733mhz processor. Winxp proff. No other o/s. An 810 e motherboard, and a soundblaster 5.1 sound card.

The last piece of information though looks unnecessary it is of paramount importance for my final question.
I have a dvd writer - a 5.1 creative soundblaster card-and a 5.1 channel speaker(odyssey rated by digit A-).
What do i need to do more to hear 5.1 channel sound as i have connected the card to pci slot and connected the speakers acc. but when i push 5.1 button of speakers sound comes only from front right and left. In upmixmode i have pseudo 5.1 sound but i did not shell out so much money for pseudo 5.1 channel.

Delete the Kaspersky files in safe mode. That way you will get rid of Kaspersky process in memory.

Run sfc /scannow and check that all your system files are allright or not.

Download all req. updates from Windows Update.

Defrag. your hdd.

Disable System restore.

It is not a very good soln to move to linux. Everybody can't understand linux and it is not a practical and a feasible solution. If you don't know something don't pass unnecessary comments.
